About Windmoor Healthcare

Windmoor Healthcare is a dual diagnosis addiction treatment center in Clearwater, Florida. Their services include inpatient, outpatient, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs revolving around therapy. They also offer detox for those in immediate need. They accept a number of insurance plans including Medicaid and they offer charity care to those who have less income. They are accredited and have the Joint Commission seal of National Quality Approval.

This center is a behavioral health clinic that offers crisis care, electroconvulsive therapy and treatment for military personnel and veterans, amongst many other treatment modalities. They treat a variety of conditions, such as depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD and substance use disorder. Patients receiving care can stay on-site or work in a number of programs like partial hospitalization or outpatient treatment.

Depending on patients’ needs, they may have to begin treatment with medically supervised detox. The staff will make sure that patients are safe and comfortable while any toxic substances make their way out of their bodies. Once that’s done, patients can begin therapeutic treatment.

This center offers several pathways for therapy and recovery including individual and group therapy, motivational interviewing, art therapy and pet therapy. They even have support groups that regularly visit the site and offer their services.

As this center’s dual diagnosis clinic, patients will have a recovery process that centers around their mental health. Certain issues like depression and anxiety often worsen and act as catalysts to addictive behaviors and those can be treated alongside substance use disorder.

The community seems to love this center as former patients say extremely kind things about the staff, facility and treatment. Patients in the military especially seem to benefit from care at this center. Overall it seems that this is an excellent choice for those in need of addiction treatment or mental health care.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) involve frequent and robust therapeutic sessions for clients requiring high-level care. Clients may engage in a combination of medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction counseling, recovery skills training, and holistic therapies for a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 hours per week. Intensive outpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery, those exiting detox or inpatient care, and those at an elevated relapse risk.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs are a collection of highly individualized services designed to promote long-term recovery. These services evolve as your needs change. Case managers and recovery teams typically begin formulating the rehab aftercare service plan early in the recovery process to facilitate your reintegration back into the home, workplace, and community.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs support recovery through emotional, psychological, and spiritual development to address the root causes of addiction. These programs are peer directed, with participants regularly attending 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible day and night, year-round. Recovery is based on "working the steps" to understand the source of addiction, take accountability for one's life choices, and relinquish control for that which cannot be changed. Age-specific, gender-separate, and other specialized programs are widely available.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

If a person with a substance use disorder continually denies their problem or refuses to get treatment, a drug intervention in Florida may be necessary. Intervention services can help mediate the intervention by providing an addiction expert. This professional can de-escalate situations and facilitate a healthier discussion between the individual and their loved ones. Specialists can also help families handle issues they don't know how to navigate on their own.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Often referred to as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers an intensive treatment option that allows individuals to return home at night. PHP treatment typically requires a minimum of 20 hours a week for an average of 90 days. Participants attend daily therapeutic sessions, receive medication management, and have access to skilled medical professionals. While costs can vary, most insurance will fully or partially cover a partial hospitalization program.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

24-hour clinical care in Florida is an essential part of treatment, particularly with medical detox. Withdrawal symptoms can be severe, and supervised detox provides around the clock access to medical professionals who can adminsiter proper medications and treatment to address these symptoms and step in should an emergency occur. This intensive clinical care will help curb the withdrawal effects, minimize substance dependence, and prepare you for the next step of treatment.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach that uses bilateral stimulation, often eye movements, but also can use auditory tones and tapping. Using a structured protocol reduces the emotional impact of trauma and transforms your negative beliefs into positive ones, thus improving your overall psychological well being.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Staff is rude, they do not help when it is needed. They are careless. You can get better help... do not get treated like an animal. To those who are forced to go here, I am sorry for you. The staff needs to be evaluated by hidden patients...

My roommate was throwing up over the side of the bed onto the floor for over an hour and I kept telling staff and nobody came to clean it up or did anything. Eventually I got my room changed but they brought her in the cafeteria for dinner with a puke bag cause she wanted to smoke cigarette which they do smoking after meals so she was just in cafeteria with everyone eating while she was throwing up in a bag. I did like the nurse nicknamed chewy, forgot his real name. Other nurses would just completely ignore you if you went up to the desk and sit there and talk to eachother right in front of your face

The only reason why there are negative reviews on this facility is because it s what you make of it. You can either seize the opportunity to better yourself, or continue the path you re already on. Windmoor saved my life and has provided me with new perspective. Remember, it s a hospital, not a resort.

If you have a loved one in need of genuine care, I strongly advise looking elsewhere than Windmoor. Our interactions with the staff, particularly Dr. Felix, were disheartening as he seemed too busy to communicate with anyone. The social worker assigned to our case was equally unhelpful, failing to return calls for next steps even after receiving our healthcare power of attorney documents. We were initially told that our son would be transferred to another facility for continued care, only to later find out that Windmoor would not complete the necessary paperwork for his transfer. When our son, who is just 18 and still in high school, was discharged, the referred facility informed us that he was too ill for their level of care, indicating that Windmoor had discharged him while he was still unstable. It was clear that the care at Windmoor did more harm than good, exposing our son to more problems than he faced at home. Now, we anxiously await the bill for what was, frankly, a joke of a care service. We are thankful that we are advocates for our son and refuse to settle for this inadequate level of care.-

I went into the military unit program for alcohol abuse. The whole staff was great during the month that I was there. I was a little apprehensive at first, but the counselors and other residents quickly made me feel welcome. Carli, Kirsten, Mike, and Percy were the best MH Techs while I was there. They worked tirelessly to ensure we had everything we needed while living there. We also had opportunities to go to the beach almost every week, and we even went to a Recovery Night hockey game before I left. It was a really good experience to integrate with society and realize that it is possible to have fun without drinking. I was able to understand addiction and how my own experiences contributed to my addiction. I will be forever grateful for the freedom this treatment program has given me.
