Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Wilderness Treatment Center continues to build upon its current Alumni Program and add members each year. As a community they want to keep in touch, get updates on your sobriety, and hear your stories. These stories of triumph and perseverance only strengthen the “Dubs” legacy and commitment to care. They will be planning events all over the country including an Alumni trip at the end of each summer.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

A comprehensive drug rehab in Montana treats the entire person. Treatment methods address all the underlying causes of addiction and give the individual the tools they need to live a healthy, drug-free life.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

animal-therapy iconAnimal Therapy

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

To evade predators, horses have evolved to be extremely sensitive to their environment. They instinctively analyze and react to our body language and other nonverbal cues. As a result, we are able to gain insight into our own nonverbal communication and behavior patterns. The Eagala Model invites clients into an arena for ground-based interaction with horses to facilitate the therapeutic process. These horses become the focal point in client-driven discovery and analysis. The Eagala Model is a distinct experience-based, team-approach framework designed to empower clients to analyze their situations, make connections, and find their own solutions through personal and physical experiences.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Rational Behavior Therapy

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

When I was 24, my addiction to prescription medication had spun wildly out of control. So much so that I crashed my step fathers car I was borrowing into a lake and don t remember a single bit of it. The next day, sitting in a jail cell, I told myself I had had enough. I have a friend that had gone to WTC so I called them first without even trying anywhere else and immediately knew this was the place for me. WTC and the counselors/staff that work there without a doubt saved my life. This place is fantastic, but don t be fooled. If you go here, expect to work. It s not sit around and watch tv rehab, you re expected to do certain things and act certain ways. It sounds hard I know, but I promise you if you re serious about getting help for yourself, even if you re being forced by your parents to do this, please give WTC a chance. The work pays off 10 fold.

I attended WTC 3 years and 5 months ago, my first time trying out the sobriety aspect. This place saved my life and truly push me to change into the better person I am now. If I could comment on other people s 1 star reviews. I would say. It sounds like those people were not willing to get sober. Making up excuses to make it sound like it wasn t everything that it was cut out to be. Especially co dependent parents who comment saying not to send there parents to a place that will eventually help their kids out in the long run. All in all if you want to change your life. Go here, if you don t. Then you truly haven t hit your bottom in life.I work in recovery now. Due to this program, my life has changed for the better and I have everything I could ever want to keep me happy in this life.

Sadly they have been shut down. 2 families sued them because their son s ran away and were brought back by police. The boys were unharmed but apparently the families were angry enough to put them out of business. Very very very sad. It was a place that did a lot of good for a lot of people.

I went here about 2 years ago and i will always remember my experience. What they sis do was a great job at provide amazing meals that i needed in my extewamly enhealthy state and provided me with wilderness experience that was top notch. Trust me when i say that the guys are more than safe with the wilder guides they prove for the patients. I did not agree with all the methods of treatment used but overall it is a amazing cross of wilderness therapy and a traditional treatment stay. Im extreamy happy that the DUB as everyone calls it their was part of my journey highly recommend.

Went here several years ago... Early 90's... It was one of the most scenic, spiritual and thrilling chapters of my life. It gave me my love of the outdoors. Being an east coaster and seeing that place was life changing. However, I will say this, I am not one to judge harshly but I have been far removed from this place and been around the program long enough to say. Treatment centers are a business, and business need dollars.... Not that I am bashing WTC here as it was an incredible experience but talking to my parents and looking back there were a lot of decisions that would have been made differently. One, if you send your child to a treatment center and they try to send them somewhere else after they have complete the first program, ie: halfway house, extended long term treatment center, be very wary, I went from Montana to Louisiana and that was the most horrific 11 months of my life. My parents spent way too much money for the care I needed. Two months at WTC should be more than enough if you have a great outpatient center when they return, have a sponsor or at least someone to take them to their meetings daily outpatient a couple times a week and certainly helps to find young peoples AA. Most states have conferences that are geared towards young people in recovery.. that is what will keep them sober not more treatment

My names Logan Collette and I just want to say this place saved my life in and I m writing this 7 years later. I ve struggled with poly substance abuse and never got to understand why and continuously rely on the knowledge this and only this place in my existence has given me. If there is any rehab I can give back to and the only one I would it would be this place. They tought me so much more then how to be sober but to be a man. Rob you were hard on me but I hope u can read this I love you for what you showed me. You made me believe in myself and that s nothing I can ever get rid of. I love this facility to the chefs to the tour guides. THANK YOU.SADLY I WAS APART OF 2012 and I previously read that things aren t the same as a previous person of my time went back 2018. I m here to give an honest review.

One of the worst experiences of my life. I went here in 2010 This place uses escorts to legally kidnap children, very roughly, in the middle of the night with the threat of physical force. I was transported in the back seat of small car detoxing with no medical supervision from dangerous drugs that could have killed me. I was not told where I was going and we did not stop to sleep or take any breaks other than to use the restroom for 3 days driving non-stop When I arrived I still continued to lack medical care from detoxification. The counselors used abusive, shameful, methods of therapy and broke my confidentiality to other clients. They refused to report clients with suicidal ideations or intent, multiple clients risked their lives trying to run away in the middle of nothing because this facility is located in a very remote area. We were used for slave labor on the WTC compound against our will. They would manipulate parents and convince them we were not able to go home afterwords so they could get a kickback from referring to a boarding school or another strict abusive program. There was a lot of abuse amongst clients and I saw clients subjected to horrible inhumane things by the hands of staff and other clients. Multiple staff members were on drugs themselves. Then came the wilderness part of the program I was subjected to -30 degree temperatures in Yellowstone hiking 8-10 miles a day, severely out of shape. With no fire and limited supplies. Multiple clients got severe frostbite and nothing was done about it. We were also given a single tarp and a sleeping bag, told to make a shelter with no experience and survive for 3 days with no human contact except for when the instructor would bring food. I have never been put into words what I went through at this hellacious cruel place but please don t send anyone you love or anyone at all here.

My son had a great experience at WTC! He worked the program (which makes a difference), re-established a relationship with God during the wilderness portion and is now living in an amazing sober living home (which is a MUST DO). Do NOT let your kids come home after two months of rehab! It DOES NOT WORK! The longer they are in treatment, the more successful they are.
