About Starting Point

Starting Point – Vancouver is a privately-owned rehab in Vancouver, Washington, that specializes in helping individuals with substance abuse issues like drug addiction, alcoholism, and opioid addiction. Starting Point also provides dual diagnosis treatment, relapse prevention, and clinical services like family, trauma, and group therapy alongside addiction treatment services like outpatient care and an intensive outpatient program (IOP).

Starting Point utilizes a variety of treatment approaches like substance abuse counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, rational emotive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy to help individuals with recovery from drugs and alcohol. Some of their other services include:

Starting Point believes in personalized care to achieve the best possible results, which is why they offer an outpatient program at their addiction treatment center. This outpatient program conveniently allows patients to seek care for substance abuse related disorders without staying overnight. Usually, Starting Points’ outpatient program is the ideal recovery tool for those who have completed an inpatient stay and want to continue their growth in recovery.

The Starting Point rehab is accredited and accepts various insurances for those who need to enroll in its intensive outpatient program (IOP). Their structured treatment program is more intensive than the regular OP as it consists of longer substance abuse counseling sessions and a range of individualized treatment programs that vary in intensity. Although patients won’t need to stay overnight at the facility, they must fully commit to the program.

This team of people are absolutely amazing. They truly care and and in my experience the best IOP I have participated in. Unfortunately I have participated in quite a few with almost 4 decades of addiction issues. But today I am free indeed and Starting Point helped me get there and stay free. Special shout out to Jen, she's truly one of the chosen, for sure.

The journey of recovery is completely impossible for me in my own. Starting Point has incredibly kind, compassionate, knowledgeable staff and have gone above and beyond their call of duty to assist me during my journey. The groups were full of support and education and the vast amount of resources have truly helped me. The payment plans made it adorable to do out-of-pocket as well. I am so blessed by the programming and counseling I have received at Starting Point.

Accepted Insurance

Starting Point works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs support clients as they focus on maintaining their sobriety after intensive (often inpatient) treatment. These programs adhere to a model of life-long recovery, addressing addiction disease as a chronic, relapsing condition. Rehab aftercare services vary widely based on the specific and evolving needs of the client, but often include peer coaching, relapse prevention support, and 12 step program induction. Clients, case managers, and care teams typically collaborate on long-term care plans.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs support participants' psychological, spiritual, and emotional development as integral to sustained recovery. Though 12 step recovery programs are based on the belief in a non-denominational higher power, religious affiliation is not required. Group meetings are paper-led, anonymous, free, and available daily, including on holidays, in most communities. Peer sponsors selected by the participants provide one-on-one coaching and support. Specialized formats are widely available, including programming for youth, seniors, and families.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Effective drug rehab in Washington integrates care for the whole person, offering comprehensive solutions to addiction. Treatment methods address mental, physical, and relational aspects of substance abuse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.

Clinical Services

Often, substance use disorder originates with negative thinking patterns. Cognitive behavioral therapy in Washington is designed to help individuals change these patterns of thought, which leads to changes in behavior and freedom from addiction.

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a highly structured form of therapy that teaches skills to help participants change negative thoughts and behaviors. Applying a philosophy of acceptance and change, you'll learn and practice these skills to break unhealthy patterns and establish healthy ones.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual therapy sessions for drug and alcohol addiction treatment emphasize the importance of personalized care. Your therapist works with you to understand your unique life experiences and develop effective coping mechanisms to address your underlying issues. This comprehensive approach to recovery is the foundation of drug rehab.

Clinicians who apply motivational interviewing techniques engage with their clients as equal partners. This method avoids warnings and confrontation and instead allows clients to analyze their situation and explore their options. This technique is often used when the client feels unsure about their ability or desire to change.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

It takes someone quite a bit to finally reach out for help, but when someone finally does they get no assistance over the phone. Receptionist didn't give 2 s**ts about the call and was very much not caring to chat or guide in the right direction

I began Starting Point in February 2019 and after my first group meeting I stayed to introduce myself. I ended talking with De for two hours, which unknown to me at the time, probably would ve been my last night alive if not for her. She talked to me about everything, never judging or making me feel small. My small group was so amazing & I think of these people regularly (Shoutout my old group, hope all y all are doing great ).I have been out of treatment 8 months now and am still clean and sober, in addition to that I willingly go back just to catch up and say hi. These people, both the clients and the counselors, will change your life. Long story short, if you are considering outpatient treatment (for legal or personal reasons) give them a call and talk to De for 10 minutes. I promise you won t regret it. Good Luck & Stay Safe.

After being cited for a DUI, I went through the 16 week class and was fortunate enough to have De Spidle as my counselor. She has a gift of seeing people and understanding their needs. She has the skill to then set an appropriate treatment plan that uses effective resources to meet those needs. She certainly does not try and fit a square peg in a round hole and she really does have a good heart. Thanks De for all your support, wisdom and care.

I m so grateful that I was guided to Starting Point. I transferred from another treatment center to finish up my program and Heather was great helping me through the process with ease.I am grateful to have Jenine Hildebrand as my counselor. I thought I just needed a few more classes to finish the court s requirements, Turns out I needed someone to show me how to live a purposeful and happy life being clean and sober. She runs a tough program, is compassionate and has a way of understanding like I ve never experienced. I appreciate her walking with me on this incredible journey. She is the best possible counselor if you are finally ready to change your life for the better.

My name is Mj Adams and I went through the 2 year prosecution program here at starting point. Let me tell you that it is an amazing place and everyone there makes you feel like family. My counselor Jen is the most genuine and gracious person I have ever met, I always told here she was my guardian angel. If it wasn t for her I wouldn t be where I am at today. She truly cares about her students and devotes personal time with each and every one of them. I highly recommend starting point without question.

Starting point is a great place for those in need of help or is struggling with alcoholism or addiction. I arrived there after deciding to go the deferred prosecution route and originally I wanted nothing more than to go through the motions to complete that process. I found and received so much more than I expected. I was placed in Jen s group and couldn t have been more satisfied with the quality of services she provides. She truly has a gift for helping people. She helped me walk through so much to be able to change and better my life. I can t say nothing but great things about this place and the people work there.
