Do NOT take anyone you love here. Absolute prison and dangerous facility. Loved one was not a drug head, put with drug addicts, threatened by them, made them take meds to make them a zombie, then addicts threatened and harassed them. Illegal practices
About Valley HealthCare System
Valley HealthCare System was once known as the New Beginnings Program. They provide services to people who have mental illnesses, addictions, and intellectual or developmental disabilities. They’re based in Morgantown, West Virginia, and their services include crisis intervention services, short-term and long-term residential care, and outpatient programs.
The crisis services at Valley Health Care System include mental hygiene petitions, a crisis hotline, volunteer placements, and short-term residential care. Their main goal is to offer different types of responses to mental health or substance use emergencies. That way, you or your loved ones have a better chance of going forward with treatment.
The short-term residential care program gives a safe place for you if your psychiatric symptoms have become more acute. Or, if you’re in the early stages of drug or alcohol withdrawal, they can provide medical detox to reduce your cravings. In both cases, you’ll have ongoing medication management and individual and group therapy. The average length of stay for detox is three to seven days. If a mental health crisis has taken place, three days is the minimum, with the potential of staying over a month.
The long term treatment plan is if you need a prolonged plan of care. The long-term program is located in Fairmont but is available to those who want to attend and who are capable of undergoing long-term treatment. There are different residential programs for men and women.
The outpatient program helps you identify triggers that can hurt your recovery. You’ll learn new life skills and ways to cope with these triggers. There’s also peer support from your cohorts so that you won’t feel alone as you progress.
There’s also a separate program for children and families. Their case management can provide therapy and interventions for kids, families, and parents through in person and Telehealth.
Valley HealthCare System has had some poor reviews from past clients. Read up on the center to decide if it’s the best fit for you.

Levels of Care
Outpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. Adult outpatient services are provided to those experiencing any form of mental illness at Valley Health Care System - Leonard Avenue. Some form of mental illness affects about one out of three people in the United States during their lifetime. A small, fortunate percentage of those people are able to recognize symptoms, deal with their situation, and do not feel the need to seek assistance. However, most people who have some form of mental illness do not have the coping skills necessary to handle their situations and must seek assistance in getting their lives back on track. Adult outpatient services at Valley HealthCare System encompass a variety of resources that provide an effective solution to those seeking that assistance. At Valley HealthCare System, they understand the importance of having a fulfilling quality of life and provide the following services necessary to getting you there.
Inpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. Their Crisis Residential Unit is designed to provide support to those that are experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms. They are dedicated to working with the patient to stabilize the situation and help them return to their home with follow-up care
Intensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. Their Adult-Intensive outpatient program meets 9 hours weekly, three days a week.
Aftercare
Clients who are leaving detox or intensive inpatient care often transition into a rehab aftercare program. Outpatient treatment is among the most common rehab aftercare services, but clients often continue to receive support long after being discharged from formal treatment. Clients' long-term care plans are highly individualized and designed to evolve with the clients' changing needs. Case managers and care teams typically work with the client to design their unique care strategy.
12-Step
Participants in 12 step programs receive ongoing peer support while cultivating recovery-focused life skills. They engage in frequent, sometimes daily, 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, peer-led, and available day and night in most communities. Self-selected sponsors offer one-on-one mentoring throughout the recovery journey. This model invokes spiritual principles to encourage self-awareness, forgiveness, accountability, and acceptance in persons pursuing recovery. Specialized formatting is common, including programs for teens, seniors, and family members.
Intervention Services
Planning a drug intervention in West Virginia is a challenging process. Often, complex family dynamics and long-term patterns of behavior are contributing to the addiction. Drug intervention programs offer intervention specialists who can help with this process. These professionals educate everyone involved about substance abuse, addiction, enabling, and recovery. They can facilitate the intervention, keeping the discussion on track and productive. They can also provide treatment options and guide the individual to the best program.
24-Hour Clinical Care
When you enter 24-hour clinical care in West Virginia, you gain access to a comprehensive team of professionals who are on-call to help you in your recovery. Nurses and doctors can help you through detox by managing withdrawal using medication and other clinical treatment. For psychological withdrawal and other mental health concerns, counselors are available. This on-site care is designed to meet all physical, mental, and emotional needs.

Treatment
Alcoholism
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Drug Addiction
Drug addiction causes psychological and physical damage through repeated and uncontrollable use of substances. Drug rehab in West Virginia focuses on providing a full continuum of care, from detox to aftercare, and treatment can take place in outpatient or inpatient settings, based on your needs.
Dual Diagnosis
Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
Mental Health and Substance Abuse
A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.
Opioid Addiction
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Clinical Services
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
The core philosophies of dialectical behavior therapy in West Virginia are that everything is interconnected, change is inevitable, and you can integrate opposites to reach the truth. Treatment focuses on acceptance and change. You'll learn how emotions and behaviors are connected, accept your feelings, and learn how to change patterns of emotion and behavior.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Individual Therapy
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
Trauma Therapy
Trauma therapy gives you a structured approach to healing from past traumatic events. You can experience the emotional and psychological impact of trauma whether you witness an event or experience it. Your therapist guides you in understanding your responses and helps you develop healthier coping skills.
Couples Therapy
Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.
Family Therapy
Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
Life Skills
Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
