About True Life Center for Wellbeing

True Life Center for Wellbeing is a luxury private rehab in San Diego, California. With various levels of outpatient care, you can find treatment that fits your situation. They welcome adults seeking healing from addiction and dual diagnosis conditions.

One incredible feature I noticed is they have specialized gender separate programs. Both feature similar interventions. But they tailor these tracks to address the unique experiences and different roles gender can play in addiction.

Another standout element is they incorporate neurobiological integration. This approach emphasizes the relationship between the body and mind. With a combination of proven and holistic therapies, you’ll dive deep into the causes of your emotional and physical symptoms. You can participate in dialectical behavior therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing and humanistic therapy to find a balance and promote long term wellness.

Depending on your needs, you can participate in day treatment, intensive outpatient or standard outpatient care. Each program offers several expert backed and holistic interventions to help you sustain recovery. Along with individual, group and family therapy you’ll have access to mindfulness, pet therapy, yoga, acupuncture and art therapy.

The individual providers are amazing, but the clinical director is absolutely not and should not be in that position.

Everyone working there has advanced degrees and are well educated and well trained. They really emphasize the value of (self-) knowledge and utilizing those things which are helpful and productive. I didn t feel lost in the shuffle or have my individuality trivialized as has been the case in other addiction programs which were based on 12 step theology. Another good quality is the professionalism of those who work there, whereas in other treatment centers which were solely 12 step based the minimal qualifications needed to be employed included having an addiction of one s own and having served time in prison. It is outpatient so in that way differs from an inpatient facility, but they truly do care about you. My sole concern was my medication being called in to the pharmacy being the incorrect dosages, some of which really affect things like in the case of tapering off something, etc.

Accepted Insurance

True Life Center for Wellbeing works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Our son first manifested mental illness symptoms in tenth grade, experiencing a significant depressive episode. The ensuing few years brought challenges at times, with a diagnosis of bipolar one disorder ultimately being received. However, he eventually ended up on an effective medication regimen, graduated with honors and went on to college, where he had very successful freshman and sophomore years. In the fall of his junior year, he unilaterally stopped taking his medications and fell into a deep depression, as a result of which it became necessary for him to withdraw from school and return home to San Diego. It was at this time that we learned of the True Life outpatient program, which he entered. We cannot say enough about the treatment and support he received at True Life. Their holistic approach was exactly what he needed, with guidance in numerous disciplines including diet; exercise; individual, group and family therapy, and; input on his medication regime. It took approximately a year for him to fully stabilize, but he returned to college, ultimately graduating magna cum laude and going on to pursue postgraduate studies. The True Life program literally changed his life and we would not hesitate to highly recommend it to any family dealing with similar issues.

I completed an IOP Program that truly changed my life. Unfortunately it can be very difficult to find good mental health providers, but True Life was all around wonderful (from Maegan in admin, to Baylea for EMDR, Dr. Roybal, to all my providers for group therapy, kundalini yoga, acupuncture, massage, etc). The investment is worth it - their holistic approach created long lasting changes in every aspect of my life. And to anyone who s struggling, you can always make it through the next second!

My child was in True Life Center's intensive outpatient program (IOP) for ten months for severe depression. True Life provided group therapy, one-on-one therapy, alternative therapies (such as acupuncture and meditation), family therapy, and medication management. The staff were very empathetic and caring, which is crucial when you have a child with severe depression. The family therapy was sometimes difficult and emotional, but it helped me understand my child better. The True Life staff had weekly meetings just for parents that provided guidance and were a chance to hear what other parents were experiencing. My child left the program with an arsenal of coping skills and a much happier outlook on life. After my child started with a new doctor in a different state, an issue arose concerning their prescriptions. I wasn't able to get help from the new doctor so in a complete panic, I called True Life Center and asked if there was any way that they could help my child get their prescriptions. They were concerned about my child and helped get the prescriptions they needed. I really appreciated that they were willing to help even though my child was no longer at True Life Center.True Life Center is not inexpensive, but given the level of one-on-one therapy and attention, that's not surprising. They don't accept any form of insurance, but provided "superbills" that I submittedto my insurance company. These days, most mental health providers do not accept any form of insurance so this is not unusual. The few clinics who did take my insurance only provided group therapy a few times a week for a short period of time. I knew my child needed intensive therapy for as long as it took, so I didn't think the other clinics/providers were going to work. I am so glad that I decided to have my child go to True Life Center.

The True Life Center is absolutely amazing! I m extremely picky when it comes to my mental health providers. I wanted to find an out-patient program that would fit all of my personal needs.I was complete skeptic entering the program, but after several months of treatment I can t thank the True Life team enough. I was completely blow away with all the love and support the the staff gave me. If you re looking for an out-patient program that integrates the mind body connection, look no further. These people gave me the tools to move forward with my life.

I can't overstate my gratitude for TLC. Every member on my team was empathetic, understanding, intelligent, and wonderful at creating a holding space to work through challenging times. They are genuine life savers, not to mention the resources and skills learned through the program will last a lifetime. If you're looking for mental health treatment, the care here is kind, safe, and truly transformational.

Very loving and enthusiastic therapists. Dr. Roybal is a wizard with meds. The body work team are like jolts of positive vibes in my day. My only complaint is that I wish I had the money to stay longer and the parking can be tough.

Response from the owner2 years ago
Thank you for your kind words. It means so much to know that the True Life team has made such a beneficial impact on your healing journey. We love being "jolts of positive vibes"! The next time you stop in to say hello, take advantage of the building's new free valet service. That should make the stress of parking disappear. Be well!
