Los Angeles Outpatient Center

About Los Angeles Outpatient Center

Located in Culver City, California, the Los Angeles Outpatient Center is a behavioral health treatment center. They treat many mental health conditions that may also co-occur with substance abuse disorder, though they’re not an alcohol or drug detox center. They treat adults who have a valid photo ID such as a driver’s license.

Many of the disorders that accompany substance abuse are treated with outpatient therapy here. If you’re having problems with ADHD or a shopping or gambling addiction you can find specific programs to help you.

They also work with people who have past trauma and PTSD, stress disorders, hoarding disorders, and eating disorders. All of these disorders are specific, and they have comprehensive treatments to help you deal with your unique issues.

Some of the programs, like the one for body dysmorphia, include partial hospitalization, which is six hours a day, five days a week. They also have evening programming so you can work around a work schedule.

If you have obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or persistent depressive disorder, you can find a program that specifically addresses your needs. They also have treatment programs for anxiety, panic disorder, and phobias.

If you’re wondering about how you’ll pay, they do take a number of different insurances. You can look online or call them if you have questions about payment and insurance.

I can only speak for myself, but going here was a great experience overall. The highlight of this place for me was the therapist Julie who pulled it all together. If she's gone now, I would probably dock another star as the rest of the staff was a mixed bag in terms of organizing.Despite this, everyone was caring and understanding, and this felt like a very safe space to tackle some difficult issues, so I cannot really fault the atmosphere. It is a new center, so it certainly did feel like a work in progress, and the management was going through a transitional period. And there were some uncertainties with coverage which certainly left an anxious taste, albeit the staff did help resolve this in the end.Overall this was a very homey experience, and I don't think there are many facilities like this around. I sincerely hope this place continues to operate and be there for others, and help them as it helped me. Thank you LAOP for all you've done for me.

VERY VERY rude, unprofessional and unproductive therapists and team. Lack of quality food, especially for those with allergies therapists was mixed with untrained interns and condescending professional therapy.Pushes TMS on you to do so they can make more money off of you. Staff is very two-faced, with most information pulled from YouTube and Google Images.IOP/PHP session is mostly filled with free-talking sessions and not actual education. Therapists are very catty, and aren t helpful at all. Likes to projects their insecurities and assumptions on a person, and gets mad when a patient stands up for themselves. When I told the therapists my issues, all of them didn t know how to treat my common symptoms and ignored me, and soon discharged me from the program without notice. Don t recommend coming here. The director of this place, Shirley, isn t good at her job and doesn t care about their patients. Therapists are constantly switched out, fired and replaced.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The best decision I made for myself was to finally get treatment for my addiction. It was the hardest thing I think I ve ever had to do, there is no doubt about that. For quite a while I was too scared to even try to change that about myself but taking those steps has given me a new life.

Use your critical thinking skills when flipping through these reviews. They're fake and obviously written by employees. This place has the potential to be a great healing space. But they are basically winging it here. there is a serious lack of management, direction, staffing issues, and the clients can see that something is not right. They're not even trying to hide it either. Crowded groups thrown together and changing at the last minute, rules not enforced the same for everyone, doc on a zoom, staff not there, there is no one in charge, it's an anxiety inducing mess. Don't bother complaining, because they'll just make you out to be the problem. And don't get too close to anyone that works here, because theyll be gone before your treatment is over. Facility is fairly nice, with okay food so there's that, but I'm just happy to be done with this place.

There were definitely some challenges for me with this place, but I do have to say they provided the best therapy I have ever seen in my life....and while I struggled with getting on the meds....I am now realizing how much one of them in particularly is making my life even semi doable and I just have to say thank you for getting me on lithium, best med I have ever taken by far! I now have a job I love and a chance at hopefully keeping it so thank you also shoutout to my therapists while I was there if you guys are still there and remeber me, you guys are amazing at what you do

My daughter has never had the best relationship with mealtime, but I never imagined it would become a full-blown eating disorder. I am very grateful to the staff at Los Angeles Outpatient for giving her a safe environment to get better.

I began treatment for anorexia at LAOP after being hospitalized. Between daily nutrition counseling and therapy, I am slowly building a better relationship with food and with myself.

I ve been on and off different antidepressants for the last 15 years. When it seemed like the newest one wasn t helping, my regular doctor suggested TMS and referred me to the Los Angeles Outpatient Center. It s been about two months and TMS has helped so much. My symptoms have dramatically decreased, and I ve had a much better quality of life.
