About The Carter Treatment Center

Less than an hour outside of Atlanta lies The Carter Treatment Center in Cumming, Georgia. This outpatient center provides addiction and co-occurring disorder treatment for adults in over 12 surrounding counties. You’ll benefit from quality, affordable care with up to 12 months of zero interest financing for your deductible.

With intensive outpatient programs, you can live at home and attend treatment. Their programs blend proven therepuetic interventions and holistic approaches. You’ll benefit from a customized treatment plan with your strengths and recovery goals at the forefront.

What stands out most to me is their Alternative Addiction Therapy track. This extensive program emphasizes a whole person approach to provide physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual healing practices. You can participate in yoga, meditation, sound therapy, aromatherapy, tai chi and more. These approaches can offer new healthy outlets for self expression while helping you build essential recovery skills.

Another cool feature is their Veteran’s addiction treatment program. You can participate in customized programming that accounts for the unique challenges Veterans face, like PTSD and combat. You’ll benefit from a safe space to learn more about addiction while connecting with peers you resonate with. They help you overcome these challenges and develop a solid support system. You can use VA Community Care Network to access this program.

I also think their Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program is great. This free four week track provides addiction education and treatment resources for those in early recovery. You can participate in this program to learn more about recovery and decide how to start your journey. I think this is an excellent feature because you’ll have support and encouragement to choose the best path for you.

So, I have a different story than most as I have not attended any Program here, but through a referral by my Therapist I was connected with Megan as I was looking at their IOP program. OMG - She has gone so far above and beyond to help me it is insane!!When it was discovered that due to UHC and they horrible coverage of late, I am not able to get into The Carter Center without incurring significant costs that would be impossible to overcome. Meagan RECOMMENDED that I look at other facilities and proceeded to list them and their locations - even willing to make a call to an in-network provider much closer to my home. This is such an amazingly refreshing perspective I know in my heart that they are in the business of helping people who want/need help and not just check a box because of a legal requirement. I truly felt like the lady in Miracle on 34th street (even though I'm a guy) who was told by Santa to go to another store to get a product cheaper.Megan - Thank you for all that you do to help people like me struggling with Alcoholism and other substance abuse issues!!!!

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Had a family member attend and complete treatment at the carter. They kept our family super involved in the treatment process. He was able to receive therapy for traumatic issues he had in his past which contributed to his substance use. The staff was amazing and helpful.

I'm an IV Fentanyl and Cocaine addict. I had burnt every bridge I could burn and I needed help. I couldn't turn to my family or friends because they didn't trust me. The owner here welcomed me in with open arms and got to know me for the person I am behind the drugs. He gave me more than 1 chance and thanks to that I can finally live a life away from drugs. I never thought I'd make it to 25-years-old, but I did and I love the life I built on the foundation that The Carter Treatment Center helped me found.
