About Summit Psychological Associates

Summit Psychological Associates is located in Akron, Ohio. They have other centers in Summitt, Stark, and surrounding counties. They offer a variety of mental health and substance use treatments for all clients. Their outpatient programs focus on behavioral, mental health, and substance use needs for children, adolescents, and adults.

One thing that stands out to me is that they provide both education and encouragement to the clients they serve and help you move forward in life. They have four different types of services: outpatient, case management, forensics, and organization. Their clinical staff use various modalities such as cognitive (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing (MI) to help you meet your goals.

In their outpatient program, they also offer the “New Foundation Program” which is a 6-26 week treatment option for those struggling with drug and/or alcohol use. They also offer youth programs, parenting classes, and psychological evaluations. In addition to these programs, they can also provide forensic psychological evaluations and treatment for incarcerated individuals or those involved in the legal system. They can also provide assessments when necessary or needed

Their case management programs help with symptom management, advocacy, and mental health interventions. They have two different types of case management: Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment (CPST) and Case Management (CM). Case managers are designed to help you gain access to community resources to meet your basic needs and establish independence.

If your workplace is struggling or having conflicts between your employees, they also have organization services. This can help create a positive work environment and help get to the source of the problem. This service can provide workplace seminars, pre-employment and promotional evaluations, and employee assistance programs. The professionals can help identify the root causes of the problems and create plans to address and promote team building.

These are the same people who are contracted through summit county jail. They do an absolute terrible job there. Look up inmate suicides and attempts. Many lawsuits against them. Personally I have had encounters with them and was totally blown off or ignored. Long story short I was an attempt statistic .I have been to other psych places and I now no the difference between good quality of care and bad. This place is bad, actually horrible.

Accepted Insurance

Summit Psychological Associates works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Ohio provides comprehensive treatment to address the physical and psychological needs of those struggling with substance use disorders. This may involve inpatient and/or outpatient care.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Still in court ordered treatment. Although they have a few good staff, many view themselves as probation officer extensions and not treatment professionals. They have a blanket policy for all, no individual risk assessments. Staff is elitist; one client commented that h ... Read More

Nothing other than positive. While in treatment it's easy to say the secretary slighted me or looked at me in an odd manner. What matters most is the help you are receiving to face your battles based on the relationship you have formed here for your recovery.

They'll fail your psych test and never tell why due to their biases and prejudices. Basically, they get to happily ruin people lives and give no legitimate response except for prepared one that tells you nothing.

The only reason this place is getting 2 stars is because of the counselor I ve seen there. She genuinely seems to care. However, if you need medication, this is not the place. I ve had three nurse practitioners quit without telling me so they just cancel my appointment and I run out of medication. Then you haven t been medicated for weeks and they put you on something you ve been on already multiple times. I m on my fourth nurse practitioner now and none seem to care about what you think at all. They re always right. Plus no one answers the phone for literally anything.

No one answers the phone. Messages get ignored. Medication doesn't get filled. And give no receipts if you pay your bill.

They do not follow up and call when appointments are scheduled, they do not return calls, doctors and nurses practitioners are quitting left and right. My counselor is also no longer there and I haven't been scheduled with anyone else. I'm leaving messages daily with no returned call.

DO NOT GO HERE! This is the absolute most unprofessional service around. You can never get ahold of anybody, wait 5+ days to get a call back. They ve been through over 5 doctors in a year because everyone keeps quitting. Staff is very rude, they made we wait 4 days without meds before they sent my refills. If I could give negative stars I would. Absolutely horrible, don t waste your time here!!!

Unorganized, is a understatement. Not an inviting environment at all. They don t pay attention to the reason you are there. Then waisting your time and money for this place, it took a while but they did refund my money spent. ADVICE stay AWAY!!

We've all had a year to adapt and adjust to covid. Summit Psychological management team has failed it's patients on so many levels. Their doctors and counselors fail to keep online appointments. Office staff is non-existent. Calling them is useless. No calls ever returned. Yet again out of the medications they prescribed with no other options. Don't go here.
