When my child was going here, it was mandated as part of a behavioral center release after suicide ideation that he saw a counselor 1x/week for safety checks. They had a difficult time getting him in to begin with because of their schedule. Understandable since our mental health services are understaffed. I can't blame that on them, I suppose. He then went from counselor to counselor because they were failing to connect with him. The last one, upon finding out she was leaving the clinic, gave us the name of the next counselor he would be bounced to and then noted that perhaps I should just have his case closed, since he wasn't connecting with anyone, thus communicating minimally at his appointments with them. This was maybe less then 6 months after suicide ideation that had him in-patient for 23 days. I was furious. Upon leaving, I asked my child if he felt as though he needed help still. He said yes. I asked if he WANTED help. He said yes. He said that when he talked to the counselors, he felt like they "asked the wrong questions and his brain wouldn't let him answer them" ending up in limited communication. I flat out told them at one point, early on, it's as if my child needs questions rephrased occasionally because his brain doesn't process them. A counselor told me, "I don't see that," labeling him obstinate, instead. I ended up taking him to a different clinic. After 3 intake sessions, he actually TALKED to the counselor. Lo and behold, he was later diagnosed as on the spectrum. He made a WORLD of progress after leaving Steuben County. After having a counselor there suggest my high risk child stop counseling, I would NEVER recommend anyone take their child there. If you, yourself, deal with self harm or suicide ideation, there ARE people out there that care. There are people that WANT to listen to you and WANT to help you! YOU are not a/the problem! If you go here and don't find what you're looking for, don't lose hope!! Keep looking until you find someone you connect with. Congratulations if you find it here, but if you don't, please don't lose hope. You are important, you are loved and go somewhere else if this ain't it for you- because it wasn't for us.

Zero if possible. Highlights include being told I was at fault for being close to a person that kicked me. I was also told I was making excuses when I told them I have a hard time remembering to take medications. Also, when mentioning the possibility of ADHD, I was told that most people with adhd as adults deal with it fine without treatment. They'd also "explain" what my previous diagnoses entailed, basically repeating what I've told them in a slightly different way, and treating me like I didn't know anything and was probably looking for excuses and drugs.NOT RECOMMENDING WHATSOEVER. Accepted Insurance

Steuben County Community Service works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I ve been going here since I was four. Life catches up with you and move on. I went in for my intake process a week ago, because of childhood trauma and suicidal thoughts among other things. The intake clinician named Kyle spoke in a low monotone voice the whole time and told me that we seem to have a difference in opinion on what therapy is . Than told me after explaining a bit about my situation, told me that it seems like that I m the cause of the problems I m having and that I should work on that instead. I have been diagnosed with PTSD do to child hood mental and physical abuse years prior to this. He than told me that soldiers go to war, come back and realize they have PTSD and that they deal with it just fine.. I wouldn t have even left a one star review but felt needed to warn people about this place. It has definitely gone down hill since I last went at 16 years old. After I walked out after feeling very uncomfortable, I called the front desk and got his name (he s the only Kyle there) I was given a number to call and reported the incident. The lady on the phone, after explaining that particular incident, told me she found it, and I quote, quite disturbing do not go here. Better professional options to go to around Corning. I get the issue with a huge backlog of people who signed up for treatment that they have but to be completely dismissed and told that I have no real issues is a bit ridiculous and honestly very scary to others in the same situation as me. Do not come here.

i seriously question if anyone who works here is qualified to work in the medical or psychiatric industry, i went to get diagnosed and instead of listening to me they decided it would be better to play life coach and get me to do thing i had thoroughly explained i cant do, and went i had had enough and cut everything off they threatened to send creditors after me for a pizzly little $20 they didn't even tell me i owed until a week later... honestly the place should be shut down for mal-practice for how badly they treat patients, its like they're specifically trying to trigger mental health meltdowns for their own amusement

Warning, the doctor here will not care about you. Apparently if you miss just ONE appointment, which I don't recall doing, they WILL drop you without telling why. If you care about your mental health go somewhere else.

The search I made was for a Mobile Crisis Team in Steuben County NY or a CIT group. THIS IS NOT A MOBILE CRISIS RESPONSE TEAM organization. it is a Mental Health Clinic. You re better off calling 911 and telling dispatcher that you or someone you are concerned for is having a mental health crisis. Hopefully new 988 number is up and running CRISIS RESPONSE TEAMS will work in our county. Holding my breath on that one.

So far I've had a wonderful experience there. The staff have all been polite to me and respectful. I really like my counselor. And the group that I was in was good.Right now I have nothing bad to say about this place and I've been dealing with him for a few months already.

These people are in it for a paycheck they don't care about the client at all. They pay lip service to the public give false information and fail to help families in crisis.
