About St John’s Recovery Place

In peaceful and secluded Crescent City, Florida, stands the St John's Recovery Place. It’s a drug rehab for substance abuse addiction and co-occurring disorders. They provide holistic therapy, comprehensive care, and integrated therapeutic practices through its medication assisted treatment program, inpatient treatment program, and aftercare program.

Their medication assisted treatment program specializes in a combo of meds and therapy. This is to teach positive behavioral modifications, provide support, and encourage lifestyle changes. If you sign up for this service, you’ll get FDA-approved medications like Naloxone, Vivitrol, Naltrexone, and Suboxone.
At this addiction treatment center, the inpatient treatment program is operational for only 30 days. Those enrolled in the 30-day residential treatment program have access to skills building, relapse prevention training, group and individual therapy sessions, and support groups.
It’s also important to note that their residential treatment is holistic but comprehensive to heal a person’s mind and body to ensure long-term recovery. That’s why art and music treatment, equine therapy, animal-assisted therapy, massage therapy, and neurointegration therapy are provided alongside counseling. Interestingly, they offer outpatient treatment to be attended while enrolled in the residential program.
After attending the inpatient and outpatient treatment programs, you’ll enroll in the aftercare program. This program provides individualized treatment plans to enhance your sobriety. During aftercare treatment, you’ll receive group and individual counseling alongside career-building classes.

These people give you one chance. A medical Uber shows up and is judgemental towards someone in recovery. I just got phone blocked by the Chaz at the center. Don't go there. White sands, or vista is a better choice.
Response from the owner5 days ago
Hi there, do you work for White Sands and/or Vista? I noticed within days you posted a bad review for another facility and again recommended going to White Sands or Vista, so now I'm wondering if there is an ulterior motive here. Either way, for those interested and ready to begin addiction treatment please know that we are a group of extremely passionate individuals who truly want to help those who want help. We don't use Uber, rather an actual staff member will drive to pickup a client if we are assisting with transportation. We understand that most individuals coming to our center are deep in addiction and are experiencing a lot of fear and defensiveness during this vulnerable time. We strive to provide empathetic and non-judgmental care which means we give multiple chances in an attempt to help our clients, but ultimately, we cannot force an individual who does not want to be helped. We also have rules in place to protect both our clients and our staff. We're here for those who are ready to take the next step in their recovery and are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for that journey.

I haven't even gotten to the facility as of yet considering some legal matters in my past but Elise has been so understanding and has been helping me as much as she can. Even if I'm not accepted I thank you for the effort. I have to do this on my own but to have someone "try" to make it work with you is a blessing to keep pushing.
Response from the owner1 month ago
Thank you for letting us know that Elise has been been supportive and we hope everything works out for you! Stay strong!

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are a collection of highly individualized services designed to promote long-term recovery. These services evolve as your needs change. Case managers and recovery teams typically begin formulating the rehab aftercare service plan early in the recovery process to facilitate your reintegration back into the home, workplace, and community.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs support recovery through emotional, psychological, and spiritual development to address the root causes of addiction. These programs are peer directed, with participants regularly attending 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible day and night, year-round. Recovery is based on "working the steps" to understand the source of addiction, take accountability for one's life choices, and relinquish control for that which cannot be changed. Age-specific, gender-separate, and other specialized programs are widely available.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in Florida often serves as a transitional residence for individuals coming out of inpatient rehab. This helps those in recovery avoid isolation that can sometimes happen after they return home from treatment. It offers a supportive environment where they can practice skills learned in rehab. Offering a combination of structure and freedom, men's or women's sober living is a good stepping stone to independent life in recovery.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Therapists who apply cognitive behavioral therapy in Florida believe patient thoughts and behaviors are closely linked. They use this treatment method to help clients change their thought patterns so they can also change behaviors and break free from substance abuse.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Florida consists of individual therapy and group instruction. This structured program is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the development of skills for managing emotions and relationships.

A form of animal-assistance program, equine therapy uses horses to help ground clients to a sense of physical peace. Working with the large, gentle animals helps many clients gain a renewed sense of purpose in their lives. The therapeutic form helps them to look forward to something new during treatment, and allows them to distance themselves from the stresses of daily life as they interact with such elegant creatures.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

As a short term therapeutic method, motivational interviewing in Florida requires only a couple of sessions. During these sessions, you'll have the opportunity to talk about your circumstances and any discrepancies between your current situation and future goals. You'll then decide for yourself what changes you want to make.

Trauma therapy helps you work through the psychological impact that traumatic events have had on your life. Your therapist helps you identify the physical, emotional, and mental triggers and develop coping mechanisms. This helps rebuild a sense of safety and trust in yourself and others.

During couples therapy in Florida, your therapist will take steps to get to know you, help you identify feelings, explore the past, develop solutions, and help you learn skills to manage relationship challenges. This process will allow you to work through conflict and strengthen your relationship.

During family therapy sessions, you navigate the complexities of addiction and are provided tools to help improve communication and resolve conflicts. When you work together, families can better support their loved one's recovery and restore balance and harmony within the household.

Recreational therapy helps you recover from addiction by giving you structured activities that promote your physical health and mental well being. These activities could range from sports and fitness to creative arts and provide a constructive outlet for your emotions and stress.

Types of creative arts therapy in Florida include playing music, writing poetry, journaling, dancing, painting, and sculpting. These expressive activities can help you process emotions and work through challenges with the guidance of a creative arts therapist.

Your mind, body, and emotions interact in complex ways. Experiential therapy addresses all three of these aspects. Interactive and creative activities provide physical sensations and evoke emotional responses. These offer insight into how you interact with the world and any negative patterns you need to change.

SJRP was not on the top of my to do list. My Higher Power had other plans. I am so incredibly thankful to have stayed as it taught me how to live life on life's terms. The staff overall did their very best. There are, of course, those who stood out from others. My experience there was nothing like I had expected it to be. I will forever cherish moments like the VAT bed, Soundbath, art therapy, dominating in music trivia, trips to Mud Springs and the lakes, my roommates, my best friends who became family, being a peer advocate, and most of all how I was able to rekindle my faith. I can't name them all because there were so many good people on staff, but there is one person who changed my life, my therapist Spenser. He was able to help bring me back up from rock bottom. I had such a heavy heart and he showed me how to be proud of myself and how to be strong. I can't speak for everyone... however, I know Spenser changed the game for me and so many others. He is truly a gem worth keeping. My family and I will continue to thank God for him every single day.

Hi Kristin, Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to write such a heartfelt review. This field of work can be tough so it's truly appreciated to hear when we've made a difference, to know it's all worth it. We're so glad to know that the experiences we provide make such an impact, and that our staff makes such a difference in a person's life. (Spenser really is a gem!!) Wishing you nothing but the best in your bright future!!

Admissions does not follow up with requests, questions, and can be very rude

Hi Holly, I'm really sorry to hear that. They typically go above and beyond, it is definitely not the norm. Please feel free to email us at info@sjrp.com to discuss further if you'd like.

Not the first rehab I ve stayed at and by far the worst. Not all staff is polite. Confined inside most of the time except smoke breaks and the occasional weekend outing. Most rooms don t have a window and are either freezing or there is absolutely no a/c at all. I ve seen many other places that have many more accommodations. I ve never been to prison personally but my stay here was the closest I ve ever felt to being in one. The website is very misleading.

Response from the owner3 months ago
It's always disheartening to receive a negative review. For the record, 23 of our 25 rooms have windows and were specifically designed as such. Residents are taken off campus 4 days a week plus 2 additional days each month on boat outings. We may not be the right place for everyone, but we certainly put our hearts into what we do here and for many, we become a pivotal part of their recovery journey.
