About SSTAR

SSTAR is an opioid and alcohol rehab facility located in Fall River, Massachusetts. They provide detox services and therapy to people with alcohol use disorder and opioid use disorder. They serve adult patients including pregnant women. They provide inpatient and outpatient therapy as well as medication assisted treatment (MAT). All of the services they offer are voluntary.

Their acute detox services are for people who have a high amount of drugs or alcohol in their system. Nurses supervise the detox process 24 hours a day. They can administer medication if it is necessary.

You will have educational groups during detox that will teach you how to use the medications they give you and how they will help you during the process of detox. They will also teach you about any negative effects the drugs may have on your body and the danger of misusing them. If a client is pregnant, they will also consult with an obstetrician.

They have a clinical stabilization service for people who have detoxed or do not need to detox. This includes group and individual therapy. They use several different types of behavioral therapy which teach people to look at things differently in order to behave differently. They also use motivational interviewing in which a non-judgemental therapist will ask you questions designed to help you find your motivation to change.

They provide outpatient therapy at several levels. They have an intensive outpatient program (IOP) in which clients come in several times a week for treatment. If you do not need intense treatment, you can come in once or twice a week for treatment.

Yo, how do I tell this place I don't want their services? I was apparently referred to this place by my MassHealth insurance and the email just said they were going to work on being on time for doctors' appointments. Ok, rude, first off, second I live nowhere near Fall River so I ain't going there, and third they are lying according to this website, and it seems to be a mental health rehab facility, which I am 1000% not in the need for at the moment. I blocked their email and office number but a woman named Tracy still tried to contact me today. Get them to stop, I refuse their services!Edit: MassHealth wasn't much of a help (I think their number got hacked) but WellSense got the job done.

Accepted Insurance

SSTAR works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Counseling process needs improvement, how is it possible to have a session every six months? There is also a huge disconnect within the call center and secretaries. The appointments you make on the phone are not the ones that appear on the physical list.

Just simply not enough to do they expect you to sit around in between group time doing nothing and with someone with severe adhd and anxiety I always have to be occupied. Staff was not understanding, the supervisor there gave me attitude for no reason almost triggered me in the beginning but I kept through few more days and I completed my detox and tried the CSS step down program but in the end they took my fidget toys away L program. I feel bad for the staff there so miserable. The only people that will last here is old men who already are old and like to sit in there bed and do nothing I m 22 with high energy. No way to workout or go outside terrible program my honest opinion very depressing

Some of the staff mean well, but most of them are just there to collect a check. As with any rehab, staff have their favorites, their "teacher's pets", and clients they bully. Administration and program directors abuse their power, and you might as well not ask for anything beyond the bare minimum because the answer will be "NO!" Also, if you have any sort of dietary restrictions or gastrointestinal issues, DO NOT go here...the food is absolutely terrible and caused me to have intense gastric distress which vanished as soon as I left, leading me to believe that they either add supplements to the food or just use very low-quality, cheap ingredients...oh yeah, and I know for a fact that they put saltpeter in the food to suppress your sex drive, heard that straight from a kitchen worker. Have fun, and God help you if you enter treatment here!

Did not give me the care I needed. Was awoken at 8 am for them to tell me I'm leaving no prior notice or warning. Very disorganized. The food is not that great either. Waste of time. Very small amount of beds for women. Honestly would not recommend

Spent 12yrs here. With the best men's group, multitude of therapist. Took 5 groups a day. Every weekday for 12 weeks straight. Then went back to 3 groups a week. Started when I was 23. Saved my life a multitude of times.
