About Spectrum Health Systems

Spectrum Health Systems’ clinic in Milford, Massachusetts is an accredited outpatient drug rehab facility. They specialize in addiction treatment services for adults aged 18 and older regardless of gender. Sliding fee scales are available based on family size and income. Services include medication assisted treatment (MAT) and counseling along with the Massachusetts Impaired Driving Program and Intimate Partner Abuse Education.

MAT treatment is available at all outpatient centers and the Milford Center offers access to methadone and naltrexone (Vivitrol) as well as buprenorphine (Suboxone). The MAT program includes assessment and medical evaluation and medication monitoring and dispensing as well as educational services and counseling.

One thing that stands out with this MAT program is that same day admission is available if you meet the requirements which include no illicit use for 12 hours beforehand and no benzos or methadone in your system without a prescription or dose letter. Admission takes 3 to 4 hours and if appropriate you can get your first medication dose at that time as well.

The Milford Center also provides a driver alcohol education program for individuals with a first conviction DUI. This 16 week educational program involves weekly two hour group sessions and two AA group meetings. Participants must remain sober from all substances while taking part and must be court referred. Once enrolled in the program, participation is mandatory.

Another important resource is the Prevention of Abuse and Violence through Education (P.A.V.E.) program for men who batter their partners. The program helps them take responsibility for their actions, recognize controlling behavior, and find non violent ways to resolve conflict. The program includes 40 weekly two-hour sessions and Spectrum may also provide referrals for addiction treatment, employment training and parenting classes.

My experience with Milford Spectrum Health Clinic has been nothing short of frustrating and disheartening. It quickly became clear that their primary concern is profit, not patient care. From the moment you step into the clinic, it feels like you re just another number, a source of revenue rather than a human being in need of help. The staff s attitude towards patients is often cold and dismissive. It seems that genuine concern for a patient s well-being is a rarity, replaced by a robotic approach focused on maximizing billable services. Instead of listening to concerns or addressing underlying issues, the focus is on pushing unnecessary tests, treatments, or follow-up appointments all of which feel like ways to pad the bill rather than solve the actual health problems. What s even more troubling is the lack of compassion. You re made to feel like an inconvenience if you ask questions or seek clarity about your treatment. The clinic s approach dehumanizes the patient, making it clear that their priority lies in money, not the people they re supposed to help.If you re looking for a healthcare provider that truly cares about your well-being, Milford Spectrum Health Clinic is not the place. It s a money-driven operation that treats patients like less than human, and I would strongly recommend seeking care elsewhere.

This place is a joke. They don t care about their clients. They do not enforce any rules . I was accosted in the parking lot and in the building by another client and no one did a thing. The counselors do nothing. During one on one sessions in my experience it s all been just like hey what s up and then talk about absolutely nothing for 45 mins. They switched to a new lab for their drug testing about 4 months ago. The clients are given swabs and told to do it themselves (no gloves, no cross contamination prevention) and since then TONS of clients at multiple spectrum locations have gotten false positives leading to take homes being removed, DCF involvement and even 51As filed despite a hair follicle test saying other wise.Do not go here unless you just want some methadone to keep you from getting dopesick while you continue to get high.. cause there s also 0 consequences for those getting high (who don t have children or legal issues/probation) They just up your dose if you want. This is FAR from treatment. Negligence and carelessness is the only things you will experience going here.UPDATE: I see they commented on my review. No I will not be calling you or anyone else. But you or your boss, or your bosses boss can expect to hear from my attorney.

Accepted Insurance

Spectrum Health Systems works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab offers robust, hands-on care in a highly structured and supportive environment. The facility provides housing, meals, and round-the-clock supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves intensive addiction counseling based on CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing, or other psychotherapeutic approaches. Many inpatient treatment centers also offer life skills training and/or complementary therapies, including meditation, mindfulness, and nutrition counseling.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

During cognitive behavioral therapy in Massachusetts, clients work with a trained counselor to identify negative thinking patterns and change them. This change in thinking has been shown to lead to changes in behavior to treat substance use and mental health disorders effectively.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Four principles are key to motivational interviewing in Massachusetts. First, the therapist offers empathy for the client's feelings and experiences. Second, they encourage the client to believe in themselves and their ability to change. Third, the therapist refrains from imposing their own viewpoints. Lastly, the therapist helps the client identify discrepancies in their circumstances and future goals.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy in Massachusetts is a short term therapy designed to equip you both with the skills you need to address conflicts and challenges in your relationship. During sessions, your counselor may meet with you individually and together.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

The director whom I spoke to I believe she said her name was Michel. This Spectrum cannot keep any employees. I live close to this location and decided to go through counseling with spectrum. With in four years I had three counselors . All deciding to quit/leave on their own. Some confided in me and answered questions I had as to why but I won't out them on what was said for their own privacy. At first I just excepted it as it was, since it was convenient to not change offices. Then I received my first ever phone call from Ms.M. Letting me know that she was the one "in charge" and since they left me a VM on Tuesday of this week (two days ago) that I had my second warning. Second warning of what? I don't have a counselor and I see the doctor there that works at multiple spectrum offices and places. I have let the office know and left multiple VM on the fact that when I'm on video call no one will pick up (they told me over and over that I was not the only one with this issue and that they have had nothing but problems with their video calls) I Offering for me to email or come in to show them the last two times of how I sat there for 12-18 min waiting for someone to answer. Also offered to show my call log through email or to come in of how many times I have reached out and left VM about this issue (that they told me they were aware of)I then called and spoke with my provider who then told me "I'm not sure and idk if the voicemail or calls we tried to leave actually went through as the call did not complete" what? That is the complete opposite of what the manager just told me.I guess the fact I did not agree to missing the phone call/video appointment that the manager is saying I missed she got upset. Seemed like she was really upset and mad when she first answered and just wanted to verbally be aggressive to someone. The fact that I was not admitting to receiving a call or a Voicemail made the manager so upset I got told "ok that's fine you're no longer a patient of mine!!" Wait what?! Patient of yours? This person was never once my doctor nor my counselor. I don't even believe she has a doctor certificate so I'm like wait you think you can make the doctor there drop me as a patient just because you are upset? Seems like something is very very wrong then. She kept the call going with being aggressive so I just decided to hang up because I was not going to entertain it or be talked to or treated so poorly. That being said in all the years of choosing spectrum as my place to receive mental health help and choosing to go back to college for mental health, all my actual staff that worked with me were great. I have no complaints and they always treated me with respect. However when my counselor left no one reached out or returned any of my phone calls to replace my last one. I got told by the secretary that I would have to talk Michelle about that. I just find it ironic that my calls and voicemails are never returned, my appointments can be missed upon error but then blamed on me. Honestly if you are into feeling degraded and like your mental health can just be "cut off" due to some ones bad attitude and complex then this is the place. They barely have any staff and I won't be surprised if they are shut down.Doctor was great and said that he was not removing me from being a patient, however; I decided I've come so far in my journey that if this was how people got treated and spoken to then I would move on. I finally have a pcp who is much closer and I should've just switched everything a while ago.Abuse is not okay and hurt people sadly hurt people, it's up to you with how you choose to let it affect you (or not effect). God bless her

Spectrum health isn t a bad provider but the facility in Milford is terrible. The staff are rude and completely ignorant to the patients. It s mind blowing how bad the director and the rest of the staff treat people and something needs to change because it s life or death for some of us that need help and these people don t care about nothing but a check. I know a lot of people in the recovery community and everybody couldn t agree more with how terrible this place is.

They did everything they could to get my children taken from me. And they did. Including lying through their teeth. I did get them back. But they are rude, talk about patients and you can tell they generally don't like the patients. I'd dread going in there. Doc was always late, and you were forced to go to weekly groups, along with weekly therapy with no control over time. If you work or have responsibilities, don't go here.

First let me say. This is the worst Methadone clinic on The East Coast!!!, period. The counslers are clueless people who dont really care about the patient's that go there, & their actions prove that. Spectrum clinics are all about $$, controlling your life, & putting your sobriety & life in danger for any stupid reason. Dont go here or to any Spectrum related clinic if possible if your serious about getting/staying clean. There is a new clinic in North Attleboro that is 1 of the best I've ever been to. Only 1 meeting a month, says it all. I'd rather drive an extra 30 min 1 way.then go to this dump
