Sierra Tucson provides medication management for those with co occurring disorders who may need to take mental health medication as a part of their recovery. Clients will meet with a primary therapist who is assigned to them based on their concerns and the specific training that the therapist has.

Group therapy provides you the opportunity to meet with a group of peers who are going through the same treatment. The topics that will be discussed in these group sessions include anger management, healing anxiety and relapse prevention. Therapeutic activities will be a part of your treatment plan to help you increase your confidence and build stronger self esteem. Therapeutic activities you may participate in include expressive art, adventure therapy and yoga.

I was on the fence as to whether or not to come to a treatment program at all. I looked at several, it was almost providential that I ended up at Sierra Tucson. There was the trampoline effect, sometimes I was up sometimes I was down. The doctors and therapists really care and are very compassionate and knowledgeable on how to stabilize and help restore health and soundness of mind. I was really taken back that the CEO actually visits with you during meal times to make sure that you re getting all that you need. I ve never seen that in any health care model being an RN myself. Im very grateful for the experience and the help that I received there. Like anything you can find faults but if you re looking for the good there is a lot of good in this place much gratitude for Sierra Tucson. They deserve all five stars and are a top rated facility!

The woman s building needs to be rebuilt..saw mold everywhere. The dining room had issues with ice machine not working and food was always cold. There was gang like mentality going on with certain patients and little was being done to stop it. The staff was trying hard but I think the leaders were the problem during my stay in 2022. Oh yes I did have to leave early due to a roommate coming into my room with Covid, and I ended up in the hospital with severe bacterial infections and Covid. That said I did learn knowledge about mental stability and when to say this is enough .

Accepted Insurance

Sierra Tucson works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Many clients who enroll in an outpatient rehab program are exiting intensive inpatient care and no longer require such high-level clinical supervision. Outpatient programs typically follow a step-down structure, with treatment frequency and intensity decreasing as clients progress in their recovery journey. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care are the most time-intensive and are designed primarily for clients who have just left inpatient treatment or who are at an elevated risk of relapse.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery and those who are exiting detox programs. It's ideal for clients in crisis or at an elevated risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and meals, allowing clients to focus on their recovery away from distractions and addiction triggers. Clients engage in intensive psychotherapy, and many inpatient programs feature recovery-focused life skills training and/or complementary therapies like meditation, creative arts therapy, and other holistic treatments.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs support clients' successful reintegration into their home, workplace, and community. Drug rehab aftercare presumes that recovery requires life-long support. These programs typically offer a wide variety of services customized for the clients' unique and evolving needs. Clients may receive vocational training and career counseling, housing assistance, legal aid, peer coaching, and 12 step program induction, among other services. Clients' case managers often play a lead role in rehab aftercare planning.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
If you're struggling with adjusting to daily life after inpatient rehab, a sober living home in Arizona may be a good option. These residences offer an in-between option where you can practice the skills you learned in rehab in a structured, drug-free environment. This transition can help you prepare to face the "real world" after treatment. You'll live with others in recovery and follow house rules such as contributing to chores and paying rent.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
If a person denies their substance abuse behavior when confronted one-on-one, a drug intervention in Arizona may be necessary. An intervention may be formally planned with intervention services from a professional who can guide loved ones through this process. The intervention involves confronting someone with how their drinking or drug use has affected themselves and everyone around them and encourages them to get treatment.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
The initial phase of recovery treatment typically includes 24-hour clinical care in Arizona. This constant supervision ensures a safe detox process, which helps the individual physically stabilize from substance use. Patients will receive medications to curb withdrawal symptoms and cravings, as well as other necessary medical treatment. This period typically lasts up to a week, then the individual will receive medical clearance to begin inpatient or outpatient rehab.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
The safest way to remove addictive substances from your body is done under the care of licensed medical professionals. Known as medically assisted detox, this level of care is typically in an inpatient setting with a team of medical experts that may include doctors, nurses, and mental health clinicians. Medications like Suboxone, methadone, or Vivitrol may be administered to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

The goal of motivational interviewing in Arizona is to enhance your confidence in your ability to make changes in your life. It encourages you to commit to change and plan for the process of making those changes that will allow you to reach your goals.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Residents of Arizona who are experiencing relationship problems may benefit from couples therapy. This form of psychotherapy helps couples express their feelings, resolve conflicts, and increase intimacy and affection.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health. There is a personalized nutrition plan for each individual. Additionally, complementary therapies such as Naturopathic medicine, and vitamin/herbal supplements are provided.

Many holistic centers incorporate recreational therapy into addiction treatment to offer you a chance to rediscover joy in movement and motion and build social connections. Activities can include dance, group games, and yoga, which all help improve mental health, reduce stress, and develop positive lifestyle habits. These holistic approaches help sustain long term recovery.

The information they provide you at the beginning is misleading, they didn't give me the personalized treatment I needed, so it was a waste of my time and money. Also, they lack outdoor activity, which I think is necessary. They should care more about their patients.

Sierra Tucson saved my life 16 years ago. I was slowly killing myself and did not know how to stop. Not only was my primary addiction addressed, all the underlying trauma and reasons for my addiction started to be uncovered. I did not leave "healed" with no more work to be done but I did leave with enough of a foundation that relapse has yet to be a part of my story.Sierra Tucson continues to support me in my recovery with nearly daily zoom recovery meetings and an annual retreat (STAR) to keep me on track and renew my dedication to my personal growth. STAR proves to me the investment that Sierra Tucson has in me by providing a safe forum to connect with other alumni and learn from the greatest (George!) presenters in the field, all at an amazingly reasonable price!Thank you for not only saving my life, but continuing to care enough to ensure I continue to make progress towards my best self in this journey of life!

Sierra Tucson has wonderful programs, services and staff that have helped me and many good friends return to their lives better than ever. Not many people have a perfect experience, and I did not either (at one of the heights of Covid). So many amazing people gave so much care to me and others, that we DO return to convene annually. Many of us, including myself, also attend the online Alumni meetings offered over 8 times weekly, to offer support to each other. It is an amazing community of support. We connect and share our joys, sorrows and gratitude! You are a miracle! You matter!

ST was an amazing transformative place for me. I am very grateful for the staff, medical team and everything they provided especially the connections after treatment! The care I received here was like none other I have ever experienced. Connect365 was a game changer for me, absolutely love my Recovery Coach, Twyla, and the support she provided me. The connections and support resources offered after treatment are 10/10.

I had the opportunity to attend a familiarity session at Sierra Tucson and was thoroughly impressed by the facility, the team, and the overall community atmosphere. The center s serene environment immediately sets the tone for healing and recovery, but it s the people who truly make the difference. The staff s unwavering commitment to each individual s unique journey is evident through their compassion, professionalism, and deep expertise.I have personally referred a handful of people to Sierra Tucson over the years, including first responders, and each of them has been a true testament to the power of recovery fostered by this incredible team. What stands out to me is their culturally competent approach to treating first responders, recognizing the unique stressors and challenges faced by those in high-pressure professions. Their specialized care ensures that treatment is tailored not only to the individual s mental and emotional needs but also to the specific experiences that come with being a first responder.Their approach blends traditional methods with innovative therapies to address physical, emotional, and mental well-being. The sense of community at Sierra Tucson is impressive. From staff to clients, there s a genuine spirit of connection, understanding, and hope. Each person is empowered to take control of their recovery in a supportive and nurturing environment. For anyone seeking comprehensive and compassionate care, particularly first responders, I highly recommend Sierra Tucson. I will continue to refer individuals to this facility, knowing that they will receive top-tier care that leads to lasting recovery.

I graduated after a 45 day program, they booked me a flight as I am a disabled Marine veteran who was sent down by the VA (Veteran Affairs). I was transported to the airport and while checking in Sierra Tucson canceled my flight and knowingly left me stranded in the summer desert heat with my service dog from about 1:30 PM till almost 8 PM. They tried to get me to return to the lockdown facility they operate but I would have been at their mercy without a phone or a way to leave. Due to knowing what Arcadia does to keep patients against their will, I had to get my own hotel room so my 12 year old service dog didn t die from heat exhaustion or dehydration. Feel free to Google Acadia Scandal to read about 19 treatment facilities across the country where this has happened at Acadia owned facilities, or read about the scandal on their website or the New York Times article.. Please do your due diligence before going to Sierra Tucson or Acadia owned facilities. The windows are illegal locked shut also even after it was reported by ~20 veterans while I was a patient. They promised I could return to get medical care treatments the VA had sent me to get, only to be told later I can t return due to my complaints while there. Photos of windows that don t open due to being screwed closed by the facility, evidence that patients are illegally prevented to escape in case of fire or gas leak.
