Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs enable clients to receive a full continuum of care while continuing to live at home. They're often ideal for clients who are stepping down from inpatient care but some clients may prefer to transition into outpatient treatment immediately after completing detox. Many outpatient facilities also offer ambulatory medical detox for low-risk clients. Outpatient treatment generally includes psychotherapy and life skills training. Clients in opioid and/or alcohol recovery may also receive medication assisted treatment (MAT).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients in a rehab aftercare program have typically completed detox and intensive inpatient and are medically stable. These programs are designed to address addiction recovery as a life-long process. Outpatient counseling and recovery education are typically categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive support after being discharged from formal outpatient treatment. Case managers and recovery teams facilitate clients' access to peer coaching, career counseling, 12 step program induction, and related services.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in New Jersey provides a setting where you can withdraw from alcohol or drugs under close monitoring of experienced medical staff. These trained professionals can intervene at any time if needed. They can prescribe medications to reduce cravings and physical discomfort. Mental health professionals are also available to address any emotional and psychological challenges you experience as you begin your recovery journey.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Horrendous experience. I was admitted for depression and alcohol abuse. I was abandoned on a bed for more than 16 hours without food or basic courtesy, or having had my vitals checked. I kept asking to use the bathroom and was refused. I heard one of the nurses call the pati ... Read More

We had the sad experience of visiting the emergency room a few days ago. It was an absolute nightmare. We were greeted by an impersonal woman who took our information and told to sit down with no further information. The place was in disarray and dirty. We waited four hours with no contact. We were sent there by Sloan Kettering. At one point my husband had to get the attention of a man taking vitals that a girl was curled up in agony. He came over, looked at her and just walked away. No verbal contact. Later he came to get her and we had to tell the idiot to get a wheel chair. Later a nurse came to see us to register us. She proceeded to do so and told us it would be two more hours. We said no and left. This institution is horrible and lax in communication and kindness. You are the worst hospital we have ever experienced. You should not even operate!

Good evening, I wanted to post this review of the HMH Riverview Medical Center Red Bank New Jersey. I was taken to the emergency room and admitted on 1/4/2025 for high blood pressure, shortness of breath, and dizziness. Everyone from the ER staff, patient staff, housekeeping, and food service were 100% professional and provided me with exceptional care and service during my stay. Thank you all!Respectfully,Gene Royster

I m writing a review because my experience here was absolutely terrible. But only because of the register nurse, Wendy in the ER on January 1st 2025. It s obvious they let her get away with whatever she wants, her attitude is terrible. For example: I was hooked up to an IV, and monitors, I had to use the bathroom. My husband asked if she had time if she could unhook me. She said when I have a minute I understand it s a busy environment, the problem was that 10 minutes past and I begged my husband to ask again. So he asked her again and she said matter of fact, why don t YOU unhook her I m not even kidding lol. Why is my husband being asked rudely to touch any of the equipment is beyond me. I waited another couple minutes before we unhooked myself, and I carried the iv water bag into the bathroom with me. I don t normally leave reviews but this situation needs to be addressed 1000%.

I would have to agree with all the negative reviews! Do not waste your time coming to this hospital! It s probably safer to drive the extra 10 minutes to go somewhere else!We rushed my 2 year old to riverview with a 103-104 fever, they couldn t be bothered to have a doctor check him out, did not know how to handle a baby and even got frustrated that he was crying! After taking an xray of his chest as he previously had RSV (which they re tested and came positive) they told us his lungs are clear, we are dealing with the side effects of RSV and sent us home!12 hours later, we rushed him to a hospital (down the road) where he tested negative for RSV and they found that he had bacterial pneumonia after performing the same xray as riverview.Train your staff better and maybe let doctors make decisions, not your PAs.(Edit: I m writing this as I m sitting with my 2 year old in the other hospital. He was admitted and we are on day 2)

This hospital is a sad representation of our current Health Care system. The amount of understaffing and neglect is quite apparent. I would be frightened to have to spend any time in this place let alone have my Mother go through this experience again. For years, people have been telling me how terrible Riverview Hospital is. As someone who has always preferred to have my mother cared for at Monmouth Medical, I dismissed the rumors about Riverview. However, after my Mom fell this past weekend and we had to have her transported by ambulance, Riverview was our only option as it was the closest.Their emergency room on the Saturday night we arrived was a mess. It's small, cramped, and completely understaffed. We waited for hours for a doctor to look at my Mother. When the doctor finally arrived, he looked at her for a minute before being paged and hurried away. It took another hour for him to return. They gave my Mom a covid test and determined she had covid. I knew this was impossible given the fact she was showing no symptoms. They put her in isolation with another highly contagious patient until a second test revealed that my Mom didn't have covid after all. I was told that this kind of mistake often happens in the emergency room where the tests are not always accurate.During her two day stay, I never got a call from the doctor overseeing her. The only calls I got were from senior staff members who gave me an overview of the doctor's findings. The problem is, when your Mom has had a serious fall and you want answers to why this happened, the doctor should be the person discussing these issues with you.Every time I visited my Mom during her stay, there was the impression that everyone was much too busy to spend quality time speaking with you. The senior staff member on the floor who came into my room to speak with me about her condition, looked as if he was in a hurry to get out of there.I can't completely condemn this hospital. Some of the staff members were expremely nice and helpful. However, it has become so apparent that our healthcare system is broken. There is no emphasis put on patient care. Nurses and doctors are vastly understaffed and in the end, it's the patient who is most ignored.Someone can reply to this message promising to look into the situation, but it's the system. Nothing is going to change.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. This hospital is a disgrace. Nursing staff are unresponsive and no where to be found. A patient could be dead for 24 hours and no one would know. They don t do important testing like MRI 24/7 so if you have a stroke make sure it s within normal business hours or you are out of luck. Being there with low blood pressure and stroke symptoms the nurses did not do anything about it until we continued to press and ask questions to get better care and still the care was minimal at best. The doctors that came in for consulting never knew anything that was going on and don t even understand how to read a report on a scan or blood work- don t understand how they ever passed any boards. This hospital should be shut down for negligence and unqualified staff members. The only nice thing I will say are the maintenance staff and dietary were nice and responsive.

I ve been to Riverview ER twice now and the care has been nothing short of amazing! Both times, I was privileged enough to be under the care of Dr. Ho. I can t say enough about how great of a doctor he is. Calm, extremely knowledgeable, very thorough, and super compassionate. Nurse Jackie was equally amazing! She took excellent care of our son, and was very engaging. Her presence lots up a room which in times like this helps alleviate the anxiety of the unknown. I am extremely grateful that my son was provided with the best care. Thank you to the amazing ER staff at Riverview Medical ER!!

Experiences are everything, especially in a hospital. I was so Impressed with Jessica R and Theresa on the 4th floor, after not a good start with the Admitting Doctor on the 4th floor , I felt I was not being taken seriously and I was just another patient going through the motions and not being attended to the right way, basically the Doctor told me one thing after a lengthy conversation with him and when I got upstairs the Nurse Theresa contacted him, he responded and said well I decided to change my mind. I then requested him to come to my room, came up and acted like we didn't have a 20 minute one on one Conversation which made me feel like a Joke to him. Theresa and Jessica R have sincere empathic nurses with the respectfully demeanors and actually listened, reassured me that shes going to address the problem. She made me feel at ease and that shes going to help. I thank the Lord that Jessica R is aNurse in this World and I am grateful and blessed to have been able to meet her and have her as my Nurse.

Radiology Dept.staff is great. When I got a lung CT scan, I expected to sit at home and worry all weekend about the results. No way. Dr. Cellini read my scan and by the time I got home, 5 minutes later, I had a diagnosis result in my Portal. Thanks guys!! All is well.
