About Providence Center – Child and Family Services

Providence Center is a treatment center for children and adolescents located in Providence, Rhode Island. They offer a variety of services to help you understand your child’s needs as well as support for your family as a whole. One thing that stands out to me is that they want to support you and your child where you are and will help you decide on which program is appropriate to address any and all needs.

They have The Early Childhood Institute of The Providence Center that includes an Early Elementary Intensive Outpatient Program and Partial Hospital Program. These programs are set up for children from Kindergarten through the second grade. This gives your elementary school aged child the chance to address their social and emotional needs in a therapeutic classroom setting. It’s considered a short-term treatment option and gives educators and clinicians the chance to understand your child’s behavior and make appropriate outside referrals if needed.

Their outpatient services can include general therapy and medication services. However, they expand their treatment options even further. They offer teen programs and school counseling options to help address needs.

They also have a Healthy Transntions program that gives teengers moving into adulthood the option to learn about life skills to lead a healthy adult life. Their intensive services offer more than their outpatient programs. These programs are designed to help you and your child set goals for the greater good of them and the family.

They also have a crisis program that you can access for your child whether it be at school or home. Each of these programs are set up with the child and their family in mind.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. Outpatient counseling services can help children who have social and emotional concerns as well as their parents or caregivers. These services emphasize treatment that reduces symptoms and helps the client to meet his or her individual goals and achieve success.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

When more intense services are needed to treat acute behavioral, emotional or social problems, the partial hospital and intensive outpatient programs allow teens to address issues and focus on learning the skills needed to manage emotions and behaviors. Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Recovery is possible when people are connected to supports after treatment—services that remove barriers that clients may face in achieving mental and physical wellness. These include peer recovery coaches who help people new to recovery navigate treatment, and wraparound services that provide assistance with finding safe and affordable housing, arranging consistent primary medical care or securing meaningful employment.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

During drug rehab in Rhode Island, you'll participate in a variety of therapeutic interventions designed to help you break free from addiction. Common methods include cognitive behavioral therapy, music and art therapy, 12-step support, and nutrition/exercise.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

In addition to individual and family counseling, group treatment is also used when their clients agree that this would be the most effective way to reach their goals. Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). Appointments for child counseling programs and services are available during the days and evenings.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
