Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. Promises Treatment Centers - East Turquoise Avenue has learned that individuals suffering from alcohol and drug addiction and mental health disorders are more likely to flourish when they can be open about their feelings, experiences and needs. Being able to discuss deeply personal issues among people who understand at a fundamental level — people who have been there — can be a profoundly healing experience. For this reason, they offer gender-separate programs.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Clients receive comprehensive aftercare planning to support their recovery journey after they leave Promises Scottsdale. Therapists connect clients with therapists, support groups, sober-living housing, alumni events, psychiatrists and other resources.

When a person suffers from alcohol or drug addiction, love addiction or eating disorders, accompanying mental or emotional disorders that are contributing to the addiction are known as co-occurring or co-morbid disorders. These conditions include conditions like depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Individuals suffering from these illnesses often turn to alcohol, drugs or other destructive behaviors to ease the symptoms of their underlying disorder. At Promises Treatment Centers - East Turquoise Avenue, they take an integrated approach that addresses the addiction and underlying mental health issues together. Their approach is grounded in scientific evidence, which shows that drug rehab treatment is most effective when it addresses both substance abuse and any underlying mental health disorders. Their clinicians are licensed and trained to treat various types of psychiatric conditions; they have diverse backgrounds and skill sets in many types of psychotherapy, as well as a wide assortment of alternative strategies.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Promises Scottsdale's addiction specialists help clients get to the underlying issues behind drug and alcohol abuse. These may include challenges like poor social support, psychiatric disorders, trauma, challenging relationships and lack of coping skills. Clients learn ways to prevent relapse and live a healthy life without substance abuse.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It's used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Promises Scottsdale offers creative therapies like art and music therapy. Creative therapies help clients process emotions and learn healthy coping skills.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Equine therapy can help those struggling with a variety of psychological disorders, trauma and addiction. Facilitated by a trained, certified equine therapy specialist, you’ll learn to face fears, address emotional roadblocks and past trauma, and develop non-verbal communication skills and trust. Equine therapy provides an opportunity for metaphorical learning while processing emotions and experiences that arise with a therapist.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a trauma-focused therapy that uses non-invasive bilateral stimulation of the eyes to help you reprocess difficult memories and emotions, and develop healthier perspectives. They have a therapist specially trained in EMDR who performs this therapy for individuals that have a clinical need for it after longer stays in treatment.

family iconFamily Therapy

Family support is an important part of long-term recovery. They offer a weekly family program and well as a monthly family day. Their full-day of family programming includes education on the neuroscience of addiction, topics such as healthy communication, information on the family systems theory, and education on the different roles loved ones play in conflict. Promises Treatment Centers - East Turquoise Avenue integrates family therapy into treatment via phone or in person. Clients and loved ones learn about their family roles and relationship patterns and how to develop more effective ways of connecting and communicating. During their stay, clients also have the opportunity to participate with their loved ones in a full-day process called Common Ground family day, addressing relationships and family dynamics.

Fitness Therapy

Fitness is a fun and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into treatment, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Increasing the connection between a client's mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy may include support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

Individual therapy gives you the opportunity to explore issues you may not feel comfortable discussing in group, identify self-defeating patterns of thinking and behavior, and develop healthier ways to cope.

life-skills iconLife Skills

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

I want to say that the group was great I met some awesome guys that helped me when I was down some of the staff I can t name was very helpful. I waisted my time and was put in valley hospital for saying I felt suicidal and that is why I was there to get help not to be locked up. I ended up leaving because I was not getting help for my problems I know much now about alcohol and drug abuse though. I had to get my way back home because they don t help you and they don t tell you this until you get there. I do thank the ones who truly helped me but some others I have not good things to say.

Response from the owner6 years ago
We re glad you felt supported by the other clients during your stay, but are disappointed to hear about your experience with some of our staff. We have a multidisciplinary team that encourages clients who need a residential level of care to remain in treatment and involve family and referents, with appropriate consent, to form a supportive circle around the client. When clients become unstable in our environment and need further intervention, we have resources nearby to get clients the support they deserve. Please give us a call so we can learn more about your experience and work to resolve your concerns.

Very unprofessional. The website claims they can treat all kinds of co-occurring disorders and substance abuse issues but there was no evidence they knew what to do. The phone message line is unanswered and goes to a loop, no way to contact anyone except through the referring person who is at a call center. They discharged our daughter who has no phone, no money and no place to go, they made no effort to try to place her somewhere else. She wasn't seen by a doctor for two days and not given the meds needed. Recommend you avoid this facility. I gave it one star to be able to post but it doesn't warrant that.

Please do not spend your money for yourself or a loved one at "Sundance" or "Promises" The only thing they can promise is they will take as much of your money as they can, for our family it was $5000.00 a week!! This should be illegal. Not only did they charge $5000.00 a week from us, my loved one was subjected to sexual advances from counselors and staff! Michael Shumay called, texted and continued to do so after my loved one had left the facility for years later. Please remember when you are doing research for yourself or a loved one with addiction, it is not the amount of money you spend or how nice the facility is that counts. I only gave one star because I had to in order to post this review. Otherwise I would have given them a negative rating.

Joseph, we are grateful that your friend had a great experience at Sundance, every one of our guests means the world to us and we appreciate your review. We put tremendous effort into making our environment as accommodating to our guests as possible so that their focus can be where it needs to be most, on their healing and gaining the insights that will serve them the best in their sobriety.Greg, we were saddened to read of your review. We do not know anyone by the name you listed, but would love to talk to you whoever you may be, because if you did come into our center we value your feedback and would like to speak with you. Not saying this is the case, but we have discovered some of our competitors hire marketing companies to write negative reviews under made up names, so we are always trying to filter out what is a legitimate review & concern and which are not. Again, if you truly came to our center please call in and ask to speak to our Admissions Director as we would really like to hear from you. A Google User , we likewise appreciate the kind words you have shared, thank you so much. We strive our best to create a family type atmosphere at our centers, where those who enter in can feel the peace and serenity they deserve as they go through their healing process. Similarly, we strive to involve the family, loved ones, and friends of our guests as appropriate in the healing process through our weekly family days and therapy. We are truly grateful your experience was such, as that is what we strive to create for our guests and their loved ones each and every day.Wishing all of you the best! Have a great sober year
