About Phoenix Recovery Center

Phoenix Recovery Center in Edgewood, Maryland is permanently closed. They used to offer affordable live-in drug and alcohol treatments. They offered both inpatient and outpatient treatments.

They had a high (4.5 star average) rating on Facebook with many testimonials praising the program, the staff and even the food. Some reviewers described the facility as feeling like home.

But almost all of these reviews were over 6 years old. The most recent one discussed cleanliness and other issues from over five years ago when they attended treatment.

They were in operation for over 10 years before moving to a brand-new facility in 2021. The staff consiste of a blend of psychologists, licensed therapists and admin staff. Some reviewers have specific complaints and praise about specific people who work there. It is important to point out that some staff were also in recovery themselves.

There is no information on why the facility closed. A new substance abuse disorder treatment center did not take over the physical location.

Do not go here. This place is a total dump. I went here back in 2016 for 30 days and it was horrifying. Disgusting food . Out dated . Dirty . Doesn t have a 24 hour medical staff . The only positive I took from this was after completing 30 days they recommended a half way in Florida that I went to and it was amazing. It was a legit luxury facility. If anyone is seeking treatment try looking up rehabs in the south Florida area. Specifically one called A New Start all this place cares about is money too. All the money they are getting from people. Not to mention I was CASH PAY. My family spent around 10 grand on this dump. Therapy is horrible. I probably met with my therapist 2x during the entire 30 day period. They barely take you to meetings. Barely any activites. Literally the activities we re watching movies and then hearing lectures all day long. In Florida they took us to the beach, mini golfing, kayaking etc. I hope someone sees this and doesn t waste their money.

I've referred so many people here over 20 plus years (mostly when Rob was owner) and love that my caseload got the help they needed. If a person doesn't want to change then no place is going to help. Love the aftercare the clients do.

Accepted Insurance

Phoenix Recovery Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. Near the end of your treatment, you will receive an individualized Continuing Care Plan specific to your needs.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Once a person has become addicted to a substance, drug rehab in Maryland is often necessary to overcome that addiction. These programs provide the tools individuals need to manage the physical, mental, and emotional issues involved and begin a successful recovery journey.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Animal therapy (aka pet therapy or animal-assisted therapy) can be very healing, as it allows patients to bond with animals, who give unconditional love. This is particularly useful for those who suffered trauma by the hands of people, who may be able to trust and form closer attachments to animals than humans at certain stages of rehabilitation.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). Group counseling is the primary treatment method used. This will allow you to learn from others who are going through similar circumstances and gain support while listening and sharing. Individual sessions will be provided when appropriate.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This place saved my life! Great staff. Kim, Brendan, Mitch, and Joe are all extremely knowledgeable and genuinely care for your wellbeing. Rob, the owner is Absolutely fantastic and really helped me. The place is clean, the food is good (Ms. Inger is the best) and all of the PA's are good people that want you to do well. Most importantly the curriculum is top notch! It literally saved my life. If you want to recover. Go here. PERIOD.

I can NOT thank PRC enough for saving my life. I admitted myself Nov. 14th 2018 and I am so happy to say that now more then a year later, I am STILL sober. This place gives you the tools to succeed but it s up to you to use the tools. Rob (owner) treated us like human beings, in our worst moment. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that needs the help. PRC saved my life!!

In April 2016, I admitted myself into Phoenix Recovery Center. I have remained clean since then. The program at Phoenix gave me all the tools I needed to be able to maintain my recovery. I gained addiction education and relapse prevention skills. I was provided with group counseling as well as individual counseling sessions. My aftercare referral was handled flawlessly. The staff is caring and professional. The owner, Rob, even made special trips to the grocery store for me so that they could accommodate my vegetarian diet. I'm now a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and a substance abuse counselor, myself. I would strongly encourage anyone who needs help to pursue treatment at Phoenix. Thanks for giving me my life back PRC!!

I owe my life and my well being to the dedicated treatment team at PRC. I learned the fundamentals of my disease and was given the tools to become comfortably clean and sober. Not only did they save my life but they gave me a life worth living. The staff from top to bottom has the client's best interest at heart and each member of the staff brought a unique perspective on the disease of addiction. I cannot stress enough how much this facility has effected my life and the life of my family in a positive way.

Phoenix Recovery Center offered me a comfortable, loving environment to restart my life. I came in a broken a person, and the counselors and staff helped me piece myself back together. The food was top notch, the groups very informative, and the staff was knowledgeable, understanding, and caring. I would highly recommend Phoenix Recovery Center to anyone struggling with alcoholism/addiction.

My son was kicked out of the facility without warning. All texts that I received up to the day of his discharge stated he was doing fine and for me not to worry. Eight days into treatment I was simply told my son disrupted the community and that he attempted to make wine in his room which I have since learned was shared with other patients. He was given taxi money and discharged to the streets to die. When I questioned why this happened, the director texted my son was a "punk." I turned to this facility to help my son and feel betrayed. I paid $5200 as my son had no insurance. This is just a small portion of the complaint that I will be filing. As a member of the medical community, I am shocked by the manner in which "Rob" treated me and my son. "Rob" even went so far as to say that my son "refused to take a urine test and maybe I slipped him something during visitation." No texted apologies can make up for this wrongdoing.

The experience for the patients might be good even though I heard complaints about the food and cleanliness. I've been trying to call them for 4 DAYS to check on my husband with an emergency that needed his attention and they treated me like garbage. Didn't care at all about my emergency and my suffering. The staff there sucks and the director only cares about how much he's making. This is my husband's 2nd and time there and hopefully the last. I hope this helps, if you want to talk to your loved one even if it's an emergency, they won't care or call you back.

I loved the experience at Phoenix Recovery Center. The staff, counselors, and the director are just great! They ALL helped me in everything I needed to do, to succeed. Loyalty, trustworthy, friendliness, and dependability really makes them just one big family that we all dream about having one day.I definitely recommend this recovery center before any other. Almost forgot....the cook makes the most delicious meals that you keep coming back for seconds. Lol... I honestly can't say anything bad about Phoenix Recovery Center.
