About Zinnia Healing Exeter

Zinnia Healing has a residential rehab in Exeter, Rhode Island. It used to be called Phoenix House. While this facility helps men and women the programs are gender specific.

If you’re in the early stage of your recovery you’ll probably start with this rehab’s medical detox facility. While detox can be difficult, the staff makes it as comfortable as possible and helps you free your body from the effects of drugs and alcohol.

While clients love the peaceful rural setting of this rehab, that’s only part of its appeal. During your program here you’ll work with therapists and addiction counselors who specialize in these needs. You’ll have a nutritionist and medical staff on your team as well to help you with overall wellness.

Individual therapy and counseling are important parts of this program. There are many types of groups for group therapy to choose from, like 12 step groups and secular recovery groups. You’ll also benefit from family therapy and potentially medications for addiction too.

Clients at Zinnia Health talk about what a compassionate staff this rehab has and about how they were treated with warmth and respect. They look back on their experiences here as a life-changing period of healing and growth. And they can continue with these experiences because this rehab also has a great alumni support program for ongoing aftercare.

Richie is useless. He doesn't even want the job, he wants a different career path, he's not in recovery, which is fine, but he doesn't give a dang about clients

Disappointment is the only word to describe. Unsure what has been happening to humanity, compassion and respect towards all (despite gender, color, ethnicity...) Zinnia needs to acknowledge when care isn't done correctly and have the humility (or is it decency?) to address in a compassionate and humane way. Hopes were high after reading the reviews but left the facility today feeling beyond disappointed, uncared for and defeated. Am I just number on a chart? Sure compromises the effort you put into detox. More needs to be done and addressed. Unfortunately I'm one little person and my voice "isn't loud enough" to be heard.

I reached out to them to help with my recovery/sobriety. Did an intake call and never heard back. That is horrible. Luckily for me I was/am determined to be sober.

Accepted Insurance

Zinnia Healing Exeter works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. Phoenix House’s adult outpatient services are a comprehensive array of substance abuse and mental health programs – all using evidence-based practices – delivered in safe, supportive, CARF-accredited settings.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients in inpatient rehab benefit from a highly structured and supportive environment away from the stressors that can trigger or exacerbate addiction. Inpatient treatment is designed primarily for clients in early recovery or at an increased risk of relapse. They provide intensive clinical supervision and addiction counseling, which may include group and family therapy. Clients may also engage in extensive addiction education to support long-term sobriety. Many programs offer complementary therapies, including art and animal therapy.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs provide a complete continuum of care for clients who have successfully completed higher level treatment programs but who may still be enrolled in formal outpatient treatments. These programs are also designed for clients who have been discharged from outpatient care. Drug rehab aftercare facilitates clients' long-term sobriety through a full suite of customized services aligned with the client's evolving needs. These services may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among others.
12-step icon12-Step
While AA and NA are not part of their evidence-based professional therapy, they are supportive recovery elements encouraged by all of our programs. They make AA and NA literature available, encourage attendance at on-site and off-site meetings, and often include AA and NA participation as part of aftercare plans. They are firm believers in 12-step recovery programs, but also recognize that they are not for everyone and may not be appropriate in every situation.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in Rhode Island provides a substance-free living arrangement option for those leaving inpatient rehab settings. Because it is not considered an official form of treatment, insurance typically does not cover the cost of rent for halfway house residents. However, some treatment programs offer financing for individuals who can benefit from a men's or women's sober living home. Grants and scholarships are also available for individuals who need help with rent payments.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers intensive rehab without the need for 24-hour care. Whether it's an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down option post-hospital or residential care, PHP treatment often includes relapse prevention strategies, medication management, and other behavioral therapy interventions. PHP treatment typically requires daily sessions for 4-8 hours, 5 days a week. Depending on your progress, the length of PHP treatment can vary, averaging 90 days. The cost of PHP treatment varies but is often fully or partially covered by providers.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. At Phoenix House, their drug detoxification and stabilization services first help adults safely detoxify while managing the symptoms of withdrawal, and then connect them to the next level of care: either residential, sober living or outpatient services. Throughout the process, every client is treated with compassion, dignity, and respect.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During drug rehab in Rhode Island, you'll participate in a variety of therapeutic interventions designed to help you break free from addiction. Common methods include cognitive behavioral therapy, music and art therapy, 12-step support, and nutrition/exercise.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

The word dialectical means opposing. Dialectical behavior therapy focuses on two opposites: acceptance and change. You'll learn to accept your emotions and circumstances while also working to make changes. You'll identify negative patterns and learn coping skills to create new, healthy patterns.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples who are in couples therapy meet with a licensed counselor weekly. The therapist mediates while each partner voices their concerns. The couple then receives feedback and insights on how to work through the challenges they're facing in the relationship.

Phoenix House believes that successful, sustained recovery from substance abuse requires family involvement, support, and encouragement. Families, too, need to reverse the damage of drugs and alcohol. Their staff works closely with family members to help them understand the role they play in recovery.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Recreational therapy is offered within a holistic treatment center for alcohol and drug addiction treatment. It provides you with structured activities that improve your physical and mental health, such as sports, creative arts, and nature activities. These help you express your emotions and reduce stress while building a supportive network and community of peers.

I am an alcoholic addict also suffering from PTSD. I HIT rock bottom. I mean a face plant. I grew up in a family that looked perfect from the outside. When in face I walked into a mental and emotional WARZONE everyday. But HEY THATS NORMAL RIGHTTTTT? I was raised by my grands who were great parents, but my real mother tore me down mentally emotionally and physically. Oh hey! She collected state aide for me for 18 years while I never lived with her. Zinnia taught me to see my emotional imbalances and thst im a person. Not just an addict. I am SOMEONE. Im not done getting better but the staff really put me on the Yellow Brick Road. ... im not finished yet. Im an addict. I am a person. I never thought I was.Christa Morrel

Don't get me wrong, this program saves lives. Lorraine makes great food. Pretty much everone that works there, they genuinely care. But they are severely understaffed. Especially on the case management side. They lack the time, manpower, and resources to give people the help they need.I set my goals with my case manager the first time we sat down. A big one was securing a primary care doctor for when I left. A month later, I'm out the door, feeling like I got nothing accomplished, aside from putting together actual clean time.Sometimes it feels like you get more support from your peers in the program, than you actually get from staff.Cross your fingers and hope Dan gets assigned as your case manager, the rest are useless.
