About BHG Maryland Treatment Center

Phoenix Health Center, now called BHG Maryland Treatment Center, is an outpatient drug and alcohol rehab in Hagerstown, Maryland. This treatment center specializes in medication-assisted treatment and accompanying outpatient care for people with opioid addiction.

Treatment includes group counseling, one-on-one therapy, and medication-assisted treatment. Suboxone and Methadone are used to treat withdrawal symptoms, eliminate cravings, and sustain long-term recovery. Medication-assisted treatment includes medical screenings and assessments, as well as medication take-home privileges after stabilization. Counseling uses cognitive behavioral therapy in a family or group setting. Sessions focus on managing stress and drug triggers. Pregnant clients are welcome to receive treatment here.

I found it interesting this treatment center has early morning hours (opening at 4:45 am on weekdays) to accommodate work schedules. Most former clients say they are happy with the treatment they received and mentioned Dr. Farrah by name. Others have some distrust of the establishment because of family members who were long-term patients.

Accepted Insurance

BHG Maryland Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab enables clients to focus exclusively on their recovery while living in a highly structured and supportive environment. Inpatient treatment is typically designed for clients who have just completed detox, are in early recovery, and/or are at an elevated risk of relapse. Their treatment generally involves intensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family counseling. Many inpatient rehabs also offer recovery-focused life skills training and/or holistic therapies, such as yoga, massage, and meditation.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs provide accessible peer coaching for participants at all stages of their recovery journey. Meetings are peer-led, anonymous, free, and available multiple times per day in most communities. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring by a self-selected sponsor. 12 step recovery is based on spiritual principles, which enable participants to understand their disease, accept responsibility for their choices, and relinquish control over that which is unchangeable. Religious affiliation isn't required and specialized formats are available.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
If you think a loved one needs help with substance abuse, but they are not seeking treatment, it may be time for a drug intervention in Maryland. Intervention services can help you with this effort. During the intervention, loved ones share how their addiction-related behavior has affected them and encourage the individual to get treatment. The intervention specialist helps facilitate the conversation and explain how treatment can help.

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Once a person has become addicted to a substance, drug rehab in Maryland is often necessary to overcome that addiction. These programs provide the tools individuals need to manage the physical, mental, and emotional issues involved and begin a successful recovery journey.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Four key principles guide motivational interviewing. These are empathy, self efficacy, rolling with resistance, and developing discrepancy. These techniques allow the client to examine their motivations for change, identify discrepancies in their current situation and future goals, and feel empowered to make changes to reach their goals.

I would just like to know why in the world this place is currently prescribing bup to my boyfriend ( now ex thanks to you and his problem) He snorts his medication and last week was given more to snort. What a Joke!!!

Response from the owner1 year ago
Michelle, Please feel free to reach out to me to discuss the circumstances. When patients enter treatment they are required to daily dose at the dosing window, under the supervision of a nurse. Take home medication is earned by meeting specific goals or given for program closures and holidays. Staff would not know that your significant other was taking his medication outside of the prescribers instructions unless someone contacted us. Again, if you are interested in supporting your significant other (ex) please feel free to reach out to me. Additional information will allow me to address the situation. I can be reached at 240.420.0000 ext 111

Initially, I had positive impressions of this place. However, it's important to issue a warning: if you lack financial means or insurance, don't expect any assistance here. Once I got set up, this establishment relentlessly pursued me for payment, resembling the persistent telemarketers who flood my phone. Additionally, the location right in the heart of the city may pose challenges for those who find downtown environments triggering. It's advisable to steer clear if this applies to you. While my experience had its drawbacks, it's essential to consider these factors before deciding to visit this place.

If you are reading this, you are probably making your first step at sobriety! Congrats and I encourage you to continue. PHC is a life changing, life saving facility that becomes more like home when you join the program. There are counselors that really care and take the time to get to know their patients. The staff along with the nurses believe in our change and are there to fully support us. Support means everything when so many of us come from a place where support is non existent. I have 10 years of hard lived experience and no one in my corner but 3 years ago ALL of that changed for me. I followed the program to the best of my ability and it WORKED!!!!! I'm now a recovery coach myself and have 2 full time jobs in this field. I cant help but thank the program and I know I owe them all so much. I've been to one other clinic in the area and I wont say names but I will say I felt like nothing more than a number there. PHC is so different. They believe in you before you do. They will hold you accountable, but they will do it in a positive way that helps you learn and lets you self reflect. They will give you any tool you need to fix your life. THIS PLACE IS LIFE CHANGING. I've seen multiple success stories come from this place, its not just me!!!! Give them a chance. I promise things may get hard but the staff will support you through it all. I would like to mention that the Dr.s at this facility are not Primary Care Physician's and it is always wise and beneficial for your health to follow up regularly with a PCP. As you become more adjusted to society its common to have more than one Dr. Get the most out of the program that you can.
