The staff and house members mean well, the sense of brotherhood was phenomenal. However, the house was filthy, poor structure in all aspects from the bottom up, including admissions, discharge, and group activities.I was discharged today, but was told I could not get my Suitcase and clothes after AMA (including my personal meds). I thought the latter was concerning, follow up phone call they denied, and also denied access to my emergency contact for pickup even though I explicitly said this.Overall, good hearted people working to help good hearted people, but there needs some more professionalism & structure if they wish to retain clientele. The house I stayed at was filthy, felt like a frat house that had obligated meetings (most of which didn't pertain to my issues). With some adjustments, def could be a top contender in the greater metro phoenix area.

I was a client here, they used the same cookie cutter addiction treatment program with extreme emphasis on the 12 steps and no alternatives ever discussed or even mentioned. I see they mention "dual diagnosis" on their website but I only ever met with a counselor that was a former police officer that got sober through the 12 steps; our counseling sessions were focused on the 12 steps which had already been forced upon me for a decade and never appealed to me or worked for me.The staff at the recovery houses were just other folks who were new to recovery, some with just a few months sober and no other credentials. I ddidnt meet with a therapist or psychiatrist the entire time I was there. There was no co-occuring treatment or focus on treatment of other mental health disorders in any way, despite the fact that I was using substances to self medicate for my ADHD.What finally worked for me was evidence based approaches used at another treatment center and an alternate program of recovery called "refuge recovery" which has no focus on "powerlessness" or adopting the harmful, stigmatized "addict" label. Treating my ADHD also resolved my substance use issuesI gave this place 2 stars because I don't think the owners are bad people, they're just young men who got sober through the 12 steps, believe it's the only way, and have figured out a way to make a lot of money very quickly while also turning other people onto the 12 stepsIf you are looking for treatment of your loved ones, I would look elsewhere and ask every treatment center you talk to about evidence based approaches!!

Accepted Insurance

Pathfinders Scottsdale Drug & Alcohol Addiction Rehab works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Many clients who enroll in an outpatient rehab program are exiting intensive inpatient care and no longer require such high-level clinical supervision. Outpatient programs typically follow a step-down structure, with treatment frequency and intensity decreasing as clients progress in their recovery journey. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care are the most time-intensive and are designed primarily for clients who have just left inpatient treatment or who are at an elevated risk of relapse.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery and those who are exiting detox programs. It's ideal for clients in crisis or at an elevated risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment centers provide housing and meals, allowing clients to focus on their recovery away from distractions and addiction triggers. Clients engage in intensive psychotherapy, and many inpatient programs feature recovery-focused life skills training and/or complementary therapies like meditation, creative arts therapy, and other holistic treatments.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive inpatient programs (IOP) offer high-level support for clients in early recovery, those exiting detox or inpatient rehabs, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Intensive outpatient treatment typically includes rigorous individual, group, and family counseling. Evidence-based complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and massage, are widely available. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) may be provided. Clients in IOP receive a minimum of nine hours of treatment per week but may engage in up to 20 treatment hours weekly.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs support clients' successful reintegration into their home, workplace, and community. Drug rehab aftercare presumes that recovery requires life-long support. These programs typically offer a wide variety of services customized for the clients' unique and evolving needs. Clients may receive vocational training and career counseling, housing assistance, legal aid, peer coaching, and 12 step program induction, among other services. Clients' case managers often play a lead role in rehab aftercare planning.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
If you're struggling with adjusting to daily life after inpatient rehab, a sober living home in Arizona may be a good option. These residences offer an in-between option where you can practice the skills you learned in rehab in a structured, drug-free environment. This transition can help you prepare to face the "real world" after treatment. You'll live with others in recovery and follow house rules such as contributing to chores and paying rent.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
If a person denies their substance abuse behavior when confronted one-on-one, a drug intervention in Arizona may be necessary. An intervention may be formally planned with intervention services from a professional who can guide loved ones through this process. The intervention involves confronting someone with how their drinking or drug use has affected themselves and everyone around them and encourages them to get treatment.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
The initial phase of recovery treatment typically includes 24-hour clinical care in Arizona. This constant supervision ensures a safe detox process, which helps the individual physically stabilize from substance use. Patients will receive medications to curb withdrawal symptoms and cravings, as well as other necessary medical treatment. This period typically lasts up to a week, then the individual will receive medical clearance to begin inpatient or outpatient rehab.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

The ownership, therapists, house managers at Pathfinders genuinely care about their clients. We appreciate the support given to our son, and to our entire family in his recovery process. Anyone who has had an adult child battle addiction knows that recovery is often a long process with multiple stays in recovery. Pathfinders stands out for the personalized, respectful care, based on research based therapeutic approaches.

I am a former employee so this review may be slightly tainted. That being said, there are a few things a prospective client should be made aware of. The website describes luxury accommodations which simply is not true. The houses are in good neighborhoods but as an example, there were six clients crammed into the master bedroom, sharing one bathroom. There were 13 men total. The house had a pool but was was not fit to swim in. At one point the health department came out to spray the water with insecticide to discourage mosquito eggs from hatching. There were no chairs for the dining room table. Rule breaking clients experienced little to no consequences. The staff at the therapy center seemed under qualified. To my knowledge, none or few of them actually had a therapist degree. Many of the therapy groups were administered by a house manager. The qualifications for a house manager are simply 6 months sober with no training necessary. I gave Pathfinders two stars because someone who really wants to get clean and sober can achieve that in this marginally effective treatment model.

I just finished a 60 day treatment plan and have 2 months sober thanks to the pathfinders staff. They were amazing at helping me get to the root of my substance abuse as well as provide methods and tools to help overcome situations that led me to my addiction. The level of care I was given was beyond my expectations, I was very hesitant at the whole idea of being away from my kids and family but it was a small sacrifice compared to all that I learned and what was gained. I m now in a sober living and have made so many new connections and lasting friendships all thanks to my willingness and guidance of this amazing organization. If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction I highly recommend Pathfinders

If you truly have the desire to stop feeling miserable and want to implement a change for the better in your life, this facility is the right choice. I cannot extend appropriately in writing the degree and magnitude regarding positive accolades for the clinical team and the majority of the staffing personnel at the residential level. The lead clinition Chelsea is brilliant and has a huge heart and is indeed a valuable asset to this organization. She will challenge you and holds no punches and is not by any means passive or afraid to call you out on your BS. The level of transparency is refreshing as well as dually viewed as a necessity to an addict In the early stages of recovery. The owner is also a great dude and will go to bat for you and accommodate within his realm of authority. Although I personally am Captain F***up and couldn't continue following my program in a successful and cohesive manner, the tools and resources to do so were provided and reinforced. I will never forget my time here and all the amazing people I met . Thank you for being in the business of saving lives Pathfinders.
