About Options Counseling Center

Options Counseling Center treats addiction and mental illness for clients of all ages in Paterson, New Jersey. They offer a complete continuum of outpatient care as well as referrals for higher intensity inpatient treatment for those who need it. Gender separate programs and programs for members of the LGBTQ+ community and persons with co-occurring conditions are available. They accept Medicaid and private insurance and offer affordable self pay options.

They offer intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and partial hospitalization programs (PHP) for those who need more robust supervision and support. I like that you can get care in day or evening hours to accommodate your work, family, and school schedule.

You can also step down to general outpatient treatment that is less frequent and less intensive as you progress in your recovery. Medication management is also provided by their clinic to ensure that your treatment works for you and your evolving needs.

They prioritize family education and support because they know that strong and healthy relationships are an important part of a lasting recovery.

They also have breakout groups and meetings for men, women, and others who share similar lifestyles and experiences, and viewpoints. Previous patients have said the center’s staff are great at reducing the stigma of mental illness and addiction.

During your recovery, you may navigate programs that give you the tools to better manage your own emotional states and relationships, like anger management and parenting classes. One woman noted the peaceful serenity of the center and how it contributed to her own personal transformation, while a young man said he liked the atmosphere.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

A drug intervention in New Jersey is more than a confrontational conversation. This organized effort is specific and goal-oriented. During the intervention, family members share specific examples of how the person's addiction has impacted their lives and spell out what they will do if the individual does not get treatment. The intervention also presents a clear treatment plan, which typically involves input from intervention services.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

During individual therapy for drug addiction, patients receive a customized and tailored approach to understanding their unique circumstances and providing them with targeted interventions. These include coping skills, relapse prevention plans, and developing resilience, all of which are essential for long term recovery.

family iconFamily Therapy

Family therapy sessions address addiction related conflicts and other issues between members of the family unit. By strengthening communication and coping skills, as well as creating a nurturing environment, the family can help support their loved one's recovery.

I came here for about about year. The staff has always met me with nothing but positivity and support.Chris was my councilor and even after graduating I still call him to check in and talk because he is truly helpful and cares about his clients. After being through several cookie cutter programs and a mommy and me the was shut down by the state, it s nice to see a program that actually cares about their clients. They re willing work with and connect with people as individuals, not just addicts.

The administration assistant is excellent if I had a business I would want her to be the first person people meet. The young lady that takes the insurance paper work excellent really know how to handle herself. The Dr I seen on the computer excellent. But there were two people that I encountered that I feel make the company look bad and truly made me feel like I did not want to come back. And that is the guy that took the urine and sandy or Sandra not sure of her name but she was not pleasant at all. And it is a shame because that place have very good potential.

This place is a joke to me seriously. I never had met such ignorant people. I'm 9 months pregnant I been clean for 4 years and they are going to tell me I am using gabapentin. Are you freaking serious. Then I suggest something must have went wrong and the lady is gonna call me a liar and say the drug test don't lie... Like umm sweet heart yes it does cause I sure did not use no gabapentin. They are quick to look at everyone as a liar or a drug abuser and wonder why people relapse. What's the point of being clean if your accused of using a drug you never even used before?? Lucky I am clean for myself and not just out of force cause being treated like that will sure cause a relapse on someone.

Accepts medicaid: These people are a gift for anyone struggling with mental health, substance abuse or legal issues - period. Kind, compassionate, they are geared towards your goals whether it's to get your children home from DCPP or graduate probation/parole. There is no fake-it to make it here; they randomly drug and alcohol test and CLEAN and SOBER is the goal. These ppl won't lie to you, come in here and don't lie to yourself. They are a great outpatient program which works with your schedule and EVEN will help you with financial aid from social services! Theres even a psychiatrist - this place DOES IT ALL. Parenting class, it's here, motivational support is here, anger management classes: DONE HERE. YOU will learn so much, these ppl keep you positive, they understand you and youll feel so comfortable with staff and other participants I'd recommend this place to anyone, these people WILL help you and will make you feel like family! Excellent service Rene Nelson and staff! <3
