Writing on behalf of my mother s experience. My mom has had several surgeries here and last year my mom had an AWFUL experience ONLY with the nurses and no other staff members - nurses were hostile towards her and me? Last year I was embarrassed to have to confront the nurses chilling on their phones and gossiping in the nurses station due to the call bell going off for almost 15 mins on a quiet and quaint medsurge unit? As a fellow healthcare professional who works at Cornell in the city and is held to the highest standards, I was so upset at how she was treated back in 2023 with hostility (if I ever had the hostile work ethic some of these nurses had last year, I d immediately be fired like have some compassion or don t be a nurse maybe?) but this year was an amazing experience and sooo much better. I wanna give a special shoutout to the attentive and compassionate CNA s/PCT s/Nurses who work on the 6th/5th floor Kelly, Keysean, Fay, and Laura. This year Kelly, Laura, Keysean, and miss Fay were INCREDIBLE!!!! they were super patient, responsive and listened to my mothers needs they are incredible healthcare professionals and very empathetic. I also think the food service workers deserve a special shoutout too, they were super sweet and delivered food in a timely manner (I even wanted to eat the food because of how yummy it was and I wasn t even the patient lol) environmental services also deserve a shoutout for the cleanliness of the rooms and hospital! :) shoutout to everyone who cared for my mom during this intense surgery everyone from the techs, to the nurses to the food workers and the environmental services!

I was there for labour and delivery. The maternity ward is great! The nurse I had was patient and perfect, I believe her name was Laura. She made the experience easy and calming. I had my first baby there and when the time came to deliver the nurse did such a good job coaching me through it that I was not scared.

Was told to arrive Sunday morning at 9:15 am for a outpatient carotid Doppler ultrasound.I arrived on time no other patients in the waiting room . At 9:40 am I was told the technician was entering information into the computer and it would be a few more minutes . I observed the very nice receptionist consoling the overwhelmed technician for about 10 minutes. At 10:00 am I was told it would be another 20 minutes. At this point I left. Had very little faith that I would be seen in 20 minutes. Also did not want a overworked technician completing such ascan afraid she might miss something important. Since the outpatient appointments are in the hospital I suspect the technician may have been helpingWith emergency room or hospitalized patients. So why even schedule outpatient s ? , just send them to a outpatient facility. Or at least warn them you may not be seen at your booked time if we have emergencies so plan for long delays.Very disappointing experience.

Accepted Insurance

Northern Westchester Hospital Center – Inpatient works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Unfortunately, I had to bring my 4 year old to the ER yesterday. However, I felt calm I was in the good and empathetic care of doctor (Adam Ranellone), Nurse Partitioner (Sherry Chen), and RN (Nadia Brooks-Dejourn). They were thorough, took my concerns seriously, and so kind to my baby. There were other staff members who were wonderful too from the police officers to maintenance workers too many to name. Thank you for making an unpleasant and scary situation so much better!

Let s talk about the lost I posted over a week ago.I ended up back in the ER at NWH because my primary care sent me back because she thought I was worse. Well getting into the ER was easy, chest xray and then a CT scan which in my mind, I knew something was wrong.I came in septic again with MORE pneumonia. The day the let me go home was 8/9/24. I came back on 8/15/24 so less than a week. I told them the day of my discharge I do not feel ready to go home, I am still having chest pains when I take breaths and I am scared . They said well your blood work is fine. And I went home.Came back 8/15/2024. Was released today, I asked to speak to the case manager, she had zero time to hear me. The doctor barely speaks to you, and when they do they ask the same questions the nurse asked you 2 mins ago. They also didn t send me home with the medication they were supposed to send me home with but the doctor that was my doctor already had gone home for the day so they didn t send me a new medication. So next time. I ll go somewhere else. Idk what happened to this place but it s gone down hill, you gotta be dying to stay moreThan 4 days I guess.

cleanliness a real horror, urine on the floor, no one comes to clean it. An environment to get sick, not to get healthy. 7 floors this situation, the staff unhelpful, the machines beeping and no one didn t come to take a look. I don t recomand this place anymore!

crying in the er waiting room to be checked out, I waited two hours. they said they were going to help me as soon as they can but everyone else left the room but me. Finally getting to the room I had to wait for another hour and 30 minutes, to just get blood work done. The doctor didn t come for a good hour after. Later on I waiting another two hours for results, the doctor just let me know that it was nothing and to take Motrin. I was here for over 8 hours to just say it was nothing. On top of that the nurses would ask if I was okay, I would let them know and I would never hear back from them.
