About North Shore University Hospital

North Shore University Hospital provides emergency, primary, and behavioral health care for clients of all ages in Manhasset, New York. Their Behavioral Health Department has an inpatient treatment center for adults struggling with mental illness, substance abuse disorder, or a combination of both.

While they’re living on site at the center, clients may have access to services like counseling, addiction education, and peer support groups to help them work through their disorder. They may also be able to detox here if they need to remove drugs or alcohol from their bodies before participating in any other treatments. This unit is best for people who would be a danger to themselves or to others if they continue trying to recover from home. Here, they will receive 24/7 nursing care, medication management, and access to other departments within the hospital.

Once they’ve finished their inpatient treatment program, the clients may work with their doctors and nurses to decide what’s the next best step for them. Sometimes, this means going to an outpatient clinic, or they may be able to continue their treatments from home. They should leave with a detailed aftercare plan that will help them achieve long term recovery.

Accepted Insurance

North Shore University Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs offer an intermediate level of care for clients who do not require the kind of intensive supervision and support an inpatient program typically provides. Many clients transition into outpatient care immediately after exiting inpatient treatment. Others enter outpatient programs upon completing detox. Some facilities offer ambulatory medical detox for clients who do not require hospitalization. Most outpatient rehabs offer a combination of services, including addiction counseling, life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

only rating my experience at the MICU unit since i don't know how they are in other units. The nurses in the medical intensive care unit are unprofessional and don't give a crap about patient care or give any regards to family and when you complain about one nurse, they all gang up against you as if you committed a crime even the assistant nurse manager. It's like all for one and one for all, one LARGE evil group. Couldn't even make my mother comfortable with pillows because one felt what she had was enough, it was as if it was coming out of her skin. Mother has stage 4 cancer and if pillows make her more comfortable being propped up so be it. The list of complaints can go on, but i am sure those reading the review get my drift.

Horrible experience. The EMTs in the ambulance from Manhasset area treat you nasty. Instead of handing me a blanket, they threw it at me. If you don t like your job and helping people, don t become an EMT. Simple. Long waiting process in ER department and they work purposely slow.

I had a TVAR VALVE REPLACEMENTI was told that I could get up and walk around in about 2 hours. The nursing staff would not let me get out of bed to go to the bathroom. This resulted in urinating all over myself when trying to use a bottle. The next day, my Doctor told them that I was allowed to get up and go.The nursing staff had no clue what was going on and caused me needless suffering. Also, I was told to leave my dentures at home and told them so.They sent me lambchops for lunch. At this point I haven't had anything to eat for well over 30 hours. Nobody reads their own instructions or mine. They have no clue what the individual requirements are for different patients. The procedure went well. That's the only reason I gave them 2 stars.

Three children later. High Risk Pregnancies. What more can i say. NSUH is an amazing hospital. Thank you to all the medical, nursing and other staff. My gratitude also extends to the entire maternal fetal medicine department, Dr. Evelina Grayver and Victor Kleins group. They always went above and beyond to ensure I received exemplary care. I felt safe. I knew i had great experienced practitioners. Thank you. I am sorry it took me almost 8 years to write.
