About North Shore University Hospital

North Shore University Hospital provides emergency, primary, and behavioral health care for clients of all ages in Manhasset, New York. Their Behavioral Health Department has an inpatient treatment center for adults struggling with mental illness, substance abuse disorder, or a combination of both.

While they’re living on site at the center, clients may have access to services like counseling, addiction education, and peer support groups to help them work through their disorder. They may also be able to detox here if they need to remove drugs or alcohol from their bodies before participating in any other treatments. This unit is best for people who would be a danger to themselves or to others if they continue trying to recover from home. Here, they will receive 24/7 nursing care, medication management, and access to other departments within the hospital.

Once they’ve finished their inpatient treatment program, the clients may work with their doctors and nurses to decide what’s the next best step for them. Sometimes, this means going to an outpatient clinic, or they may be able to continue their treatments from home. They should leave with a detailed aftercare plan that will help them achieve long term recovery.

Accepted Insurance

North Shore University Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs offer an intermediate level of care for clients who do not require the kind of intensive supervision and support an inpatient program typically provides. Many clients transition into outpatient care immediately after exiting inpatient treatment. Others enter outpatient programs upon completing detox. Some facilities offer ambulatory medical detox for clients who do not require hospitalization. Most outpatient rehabs offer a combination of services, including addiction counseling, life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

This is the second time in two months that my mom has been admitted for a UTI. to get a hold of a physician to give you an update on a patient status is practically impossible. You put a call in at 10 AM in the morning I m here in the hospital at 8 PM and I have to wait for the change of shift to see who Can give me information. I have a list of questions I get a lot of I don t knows well, who does know since the physicians on-call are different every day? Unfortunately, this is the hospital closest to the assisted living facility, where my mother is a resident so only for her sake do I have her brought here to get attention as quickly as possible. I actually gave it 2 stars for the nursing team ONLY because they are always polite and give as much information as they have And they seem to be very considerate of a patient s condition. I would love to get a hold of a director or a CEO, but for some reason, no one has any Contact information for them which I find absolutely unbelievable. The woman at the desk on mom s floor even told me they don t have a directory in their system. What hospital does not have a phone directory in their system? Maybe they re just told not to give it out because they know they would be inundated with calls and emails of complaints.

My elderly grandmother has been admitted to this hospital at least 4 times in the past few months and the nurses and doctors have been extremely helpful and have been taking great care of my grandma. My grandmother has a chronic heart failure and this hospital specializes in cardiovascular disease. She was recently admitted to the MICU in the new Petrocelli building and I was surprised how big and technologically advanced the equipments were. The critical care nurses are monitoring each patient around the clock using cameras and monitors. I want to thank all the staff working at NSUH for their hard work and commitment to taking care of one of each patients.
