I am a 2018 graduate, on May 18th I will be 2 years sober after being in addiction for 11 years. Before coming to Freedom House my children told my mom that they didn’t want to live with me anymore and so my mom took them firom me (Thank God!!). My life was useless and I was on a quick one way street to death!! My heart was soo heavy and I literally had no hope left - I felt so worthless and carried so much shame!! It makes me cry thinking about it - But Praise GOD!!! I have been redeemed and my life has been completely transformed in a way I cannot describe — Not only is the chain of addiction broken but the chains of shame and worthlessness are gone as well!!! I now have strong, growing relationship with my children and a job that allows me to take care of my kids independently! Everyone was super nice when I went :) I voluntarily committed myself and was there for 3 days and all of the nurses were super nice to me and told me I had a positive attitude. The bed was comparable to sleeping in my dorm bed so no qualms there. The doctors seemed to really listen to me. I never want to go to a psych ward again, but I am glad that I was at this one.
