About New Life Counseling and Wellness Center

New Life Counseling, founded in Lexington, Kentucky, believes in educating, supporting, and motivating individuals toward the path of recovery. To help you with your sobriety journey, they offer outpatient services alongside behavioral health services that treat co-occurring mental health conditions.

What most people loved about attending this center’s outpatient program is its commitment to helping them identify their triggers so that they could better handle themselves in situations that could make them turn toward substance abuse. Many were also impressed with the center’s assistance with creating customized treatment goals to achieve and maintain sobriety.

So, if you’re unsure what your triggers are, the outpatient treatment program will help you identify them and work around how best to counteract them. You can also expect to undergo group and individual counseling. You can also enroll in couples and family therapy to help work through your addiction troubles with family and qualified clinicians.

There are also online counseling services available if you need help with your mental health while you receive addiction treatment at this facility.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I ve been coming here for almost a year and having Afton as my first time therapist has been amazing. I swear I got soo lucky. I was having trouble finding one since Covid and one that takes Masshealth but I was referred to her on Facebook. My biggest struggle is giving myself grace. I feel like I m doing okay in my life, but I could do better. Seeing Afton every week has helped me a lot from childhood trauma to everyday life struggles. At the end, all I can do is my best in life and I am doing my best. Life isn t suppose to be perfect. We have ups and downs, smiles and frowns. Thank you Afton! Love ya

I have been going to Life Counseling & Wellness Center for over a year now, and I must say that Afton Greenidge has been a lifesaver. She has helped me through the most challenging time in my life, and I am now on a better path with my mental health. Afton is a compassionate and caring therapist who has been instrumental in my healing process. Finding a good therapist can be challenging, but I highly recommend Afton for anyone who is seeking professional help with their mental health.

I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I wanted to take the time to talk about my therapist Afton Greenidge. She has truly made such an impact in my life. I've been seeing Afton for some time now and I couldn't be more blessed to have her as a therapist. She pushes me out of my comfort zone because I'm so scared and stubborn. She has helped me through many battles with my mental health. She shows respect, honesty and a judgement free environment. Her energy and kindness is truly appreciated. Thank you for everything Afton!!

I have been with New Life since the summer of 2021 and have valued the patient insight and assistive processing with my therapist, AFTON GREENIDGE. Afton meets me where I am (emotionally) every week and allows me to be completely open and judgment free. I am able to speak openly about my feelings and able to process how to most healthfully move forward. Thru my therapist I have learned to empower myself thru my own self care, coping skills, reframing, advocacy, affirmation and I continue to grow and heal on multiple planes and I m happy to have found the peace and grace for myself to be able to heal at my pace and learn when and where I am supposed to. Thank you Afton. I also have a child that works with a clinician at New Life and my daughter is very happy to be building that relationship with her therapist, Hannah P. Thank you to all the New Life staff!!!

Got told by Afton Greenridge, my therapist , to go to the bar to meet friends. I m a recovering drug addict and she was made aware of this from the get go. I informed her that this is horrible advice and decided to change my therapist at this location as a result. I spoke with the receptionist on a Friday, to get a different therapist because of the ridiculous advice I was getting. I was informed that she would have to call me on Monday to switch me to a different therapist. They never called me back. It seems this place has earned its negative reviews.

I wish I remembered the name of the woman who was my therapist. When I came in, maybe she did her best but I never felt much like I would talk to her. In fact I felt very disconnected, as a teenager they didn t take much care as to see who they think would help connect to me best. By the end of each of my sessions I would feel deeply upset and towards the end of my counseling in general she sort of lashed out on me. She told me what she thought I was mentallly ill with (this was a year ago so I can t exactly remember) but she lashed out at me because I didn t feel comfortable opening up to her. I don t recommend this place. They don t do well.
