About New Choices Recovery Center – 846 State Street

New Choices Recovery Center- 840 State Street is a drug and addiction treatment center that provides services in an outpatient format. They are located in Schenectady, New York, and offer care that is holistic and client centered, addressing the physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, and behavioral aspects of each person.

New Choices Recovery Center- 840 State Street provides outpatient treatment services, medication assisted treatment and aftercare.

Outpatient treatment services at New Choices Recovery Center begin with an assessment that helps determine the best treatment plan for each person. This assessment will also help determine if medication assisted treatment is a suitable option for treatment. All services are offered by a multidisciplinary team that utilizes evidence-based modalities including motivational interviewing, harm reduction techniques, trauma-informed care, and an introduction to recovery-oriented systems of care.

Medication Assisted Treatment provides medications along with comprehensive medical, psychiatric, and behavioral counseling. FDA approved medications are used to support withdrawal from opioid drugs and to help maintain long-term abstinence. By combining medication with mental health treatment, a greater chance of success is achieved for long-term abstinence.

Trauma is often a root cause of addiction, changing the brain and biochemistry. Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents through scientifically proven and evidence-based treatment methods that help target the nervous system’s processing centers, which help to create balance mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Group therapy involves treatment through the process of connecting in a group setting to discuss and work through mental, emotional, and physical issues. There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more.

Aftercare programming is for individuals who have successfully gone through a treatment program but who desire or need continual support once returning home. These programs often include alumni groups, group therapy, 12 Step meetings, SMART meetings, and individual therapy. The purpose is to provide a safe space to continuously work on recovery. At New Choices Recovery Center, they provide support with planning for long-term care upon completion of their programming.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

12-step icon12-Step

Participants in 12 step programs maintain access to community-based peer support, which is the programs' primary treatment modality. 12 step recovery combines personal growth with paper coaching. Participants regularly attend group meetings, which are free, anonymous, open to the public, and available multiple times per day in most communities. They are also mentored by self-selected sponsors who guide them through the steps of recovery. Age and gender specific and other specialized formats are common.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

A drug intervention in New York occurs when family members and friends lovingly confront someone with a substance use disorder. The goal of this confrontation is to motivate the person to seek treatment. Loved ones point out how the person's destructive behavior is affecting them in hopes that they will agree to get help. Most inpatient rehab facilities offer intervention services that can help families walk through this process step by step.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

family iconFamily Therapy

Family therapy helps individual members of the family unit navigate the complexities of addiction. Therapists provide you with the tools you need to improve communication skills and conflict resolution. When families work together, they can support their loved one's recovery and help to restore balance and harmony within the household.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

IF YOU RE LOOKING FOR REAL HELP, GO HERE!!!! Even After going here for 2 days, I saw this place as a polar opposite of the other center down the rd from this place. This place actually cares about you! I didn t feel judged, I felt hopeful and confident in my recovery. I had circumstances that I don t as self conscious about and they made me feel so much better about it. They put me and my care and recovery first. They don t make this your life. They provide you with a list of people who work with them, who are also past users, to talk to when you re struggling. My dosage increased immediately and I felt like I was actually going to beat this habit. I look forward to actually working with them and seeing how my recovery goes.

If you care about your recovery, your mental health and well-being. Do not go here. New choices has blood on their hands. My recovery my professional life and my mental health has flourished since getting out of that terrible program. Being a woman in recovery is already hard enough but being a attractive young black woman makes it even harder. I was abused by a male staff member that is still in the streets. My case manager Donna was purchasing food stamps over the phone and that was pretty much the final straw. Do not waste your time. Unless you're white or a male you should be fine or if you're not conventionally attractive you should be fine and not be preyed upon by the male recovery coaches. Shame on you Laura and shame on you Anna. And Donna for purchasing food stamps which is a federal offense

Generally very good counselors who run groups and do your 1-on-1 counseling sessions. Sadly if you're on drug court you're treated differently, it's immediately thrown in your face that if they tell drug court anything cross you'll most likely be met with a sanction from Court. I wish it wasn't so but most places in treatment hold this over peoples head whom are on legals
