This is the worst hospital. It didn t help being on Strike from one moment telling you that your mother is going to be OK then the next day they call you and said your mother died. I feel they failed us. They are on strike mode already before the strike happened, how many more people are gonna have to die and lose their loved ones over their mistakes they have no sympathy. A doctor said that she was going to be OK. Nobody called. Nobody followed up. Nobody told the family nothing I hate this hospital such poor service so many unanswered questions, dr. Williams sucked. He should retire and not be a doctor. They wait till the very last minute with the family keeps trying to suggest some thing by the time they try it it s too late yet. He has a nervous say she s gonna be fine then you get a call five hours later that she died.

I went in on July 26th 2024 and the nurse treated me horrible. I had pain in my groin area and did not know what it was from. I knew it wasn't normal at all. I had a recent lnnguinal hernia and wasn't sure if that was the root cause but of the pain. The nurse I had that night kept asking me if I had multiple sex partners. My answer was very firm and it was a no. I am married man and very faithful. Even after telling her no she repeated the questing and said "are you sure"? Then she stated that it's probably something to do with epididymus. After that she asked me if I was a "meth user", and also asked me that one several times. Even after I told her no. She then left me behind the curtain and walked over to a male nurse and started joking about my situation to him. Saying how it was funny that I thought my pain was from a hernia and even went as far as making jokes about how I didn't know what an epididymus was. They gave me 600mg of ibuprofen and out the door. They did nothing to help fix anything that was wrong and very unprofessional on the nurses end. I left still in pain and embarrassed to even be there.

Accepted Insurance

Our Policy: Maui Memorial Medical Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact us to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) enable clients to live at home and continue working or attending school while also receiving robust therapeutic support for addiction. Clients attend multiple treatment sessions per week, where they typically receive a combination of psychotherapy, addiction education and recovery skills training, and evidence-based complementary care. Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is also available in many intensive outpatient rehabs. Treatment typically involves between nine and 20 therapeutic hours weekly. IOP is ideal for clients in early recovery.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
For anyone struggling with substance abuse but reluctant to seek help, a drug intervention in Hawaii can help to provide that essential motivation. Drug intervention services provide a professional interventionist to assist families with this process. The interventionist helps the individual understand the extent of the damage caused by substance abuse and how treatment works. This clinical perspective can be a helpful addition to the family's personal expressions of concern.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

During couples therapy in Hawaii, your therapist may borrow techniques from multiple forms of therapy based on your needs. Methods may include cognitive behavioral therapy and emotionally focused therapy. The ultimate goal of treatment is a stronger relationship.

During dialectical behavior therapy in Hawaii, you'll focus on developing skills that allow you to manage daily life challenges. The main areas of focus are emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and mindfulness.

Family therapy engages members in a collective effort to understand and combat addiction. Therapists help families establish healthy boundaries and improve emotional support systems. By working together, family members can help their loved one sustain long term recovery.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During treatment, you'll work on strengthening any life skills you'll need after rehab. These may include interpersonal communication, finding a job, managing finances, and coping with stress. These skills cover the basic tasks you'll need to accomplish to successfully maintain sobriety.

They take 2 hours to get you in, even when you arrived just in time you get seen until they want to. It is really a ridiculous amount of waiting for old people like me. It really felt like we are being ignored

The fact that the Environmental Services Department / aka housekeeping for dummies only pulls trash on a daily basis without disinfecting surfaces or cleaning bathrooms or moping floors on a daily is embarrassing. The family members bringing their own disinfecting wipes is disturbing. I'm reporting this hospital to The Department of Health . You can do better Maui.A'ole!!

How very deep my gratitude runs for this hospital and the beautiful, honorable souls that have chosen this work. Today I had a biopsy procedure which, by nature was uncomfortable and scary. The Maui Memorial team graciously held space for this patient, and I felt the web of community within this network as a connected and loving entity. Special Mahalo to Joseph the security guard at the front door with the fashionable clear glasses, he has a uniquely loving and light hearted aura which always lifts my spirits , his heart glow is radiant and pure and very contagious. Many many thanks . Special Mahalo to Jane in the radiology department, who performed some ultrasounds and held space for me during the biopsy procedure in such a cool way. She is intuitive and heart centered, completelyBalanced also with grounded , pragmatic energy necessary to navigate the corporate nature of the hospital environment. This balance I find extremely rare and needed. Her heart glow eminates radiantly and powerfully through my vessel. I am so grateful to her assistant as well Who is a magnificent transparent soul , many mahalos for your truthful and bright beauty. Special thanks to the doctor who performed my biopsy as well. This man has so much kuleana and is walking with it so strongly. Thank you for being of service to me today Thank you for all you do for everyone every day. May your paths be filled with many blessings and moments of joy, peace and happiness

The nurses and doctors in the ER today were amazing. My 4yo daughter had to get stitches on her eyebrow and they were so sweet and tender with taking care of her. They went above and beyond making her feel comfortable. So thankful for this experience in a scary situation.

Please inform your doctor's and nurses in the ER that the way they treat their patients is literally life and death. They ask me every time I come there if I'm suicidal. I always say no, but by the time I leave that usually changes. When I can hear the doctor talking about me to other staff and I see the lies they have written in my chart....wow. I was so surprised because I'm always so respectful. I am always calm and collected.Once, when a doctor was actually doing their job correctly, I heard a nurse begging the doctor not to run any test on me. He listened to her and ended up sending me home with no testing or treatment. Why would a nurse ever do that? What about the time when my primary told me to go straight to the ER from his office because he suspected blood clots. The ER Doctor put me in a camera room and chose to use blood tests from over a month prior that they found in my chart. She told me that I couldn't possibly have any blood clots. She sent me home and didn't run a single test on me regardless of visible abnormal swelling of both arms and the fact that my doctor requested I be there. Also, I have a history of having blood clots previously. If I tell the doctor I can't breathe well or that it hurts when I breathe, they don't believe me. The list goes on and on.I am terrified to come there. I stopped coming for a very long time, suffering at home regardless of how bad I felt and this is why. I do my best to be respectful and thankful to all the staff there and hardly ever do I get treated with the same respect.Your staff are not just doing damage to me when I come there but they are making sure that anyone who sees me later on will disregard what I'm going through. This is dangerous to patients. People die over these type of things.I encourage anyone that goes there to keep track of their medical records, ask for a patient advocate when necessary, and be vigilant if your health is in dire condition. So many people with chronic health issues have told me that they don't come to the ER just like me.I apologize to the ER staff that are great at their jobs. You don't get enough praise and I apologize for that. You all are very appreciated and very much needed.

Very bad hospital, they were terrible before pandemic and now they absolute horror! My child had to go to their ER bcz of course on Maui you can never get to see doctor if you In crisis. After wasting 8 hours in the lobby with homeless bums that come for their drug fix, they did exactly nothing. Nothing was done literally, she just sat in the room, then got dismissed! Now 7 years later we get 2k bill from them are you kidding me? First of all, you got paid by Kaiser insurance for doing nothing, which is a scam, then you have a nerve to ask for more money? To top it off they refusing to provide an accounting on what they are charging for bcz I sure as hell not paying for sitting in the lobby for 8 hours when being thrown out for 2k. People of maui need to start class action law suit against these corporate hooligans who seem to think that our healthcare should be for their profit! I will be contacting Attorney General, this is outrageous! I will be reporting that doctor who submitted the bogus bill to our insurance too! The fact that they r the only hospital on whole island creating monopoly is absolutely terrifying and disgusting! Shame on you maui memorial!
