About UK King’s Daughters Medical Center

Kings Daughters Medical Center is a hospital in Ashland, Kentucky. Their wellness and recovery center provides a continuum of care for adults battling addiction and mental health conditions. You’ll benefit from proven thereputic interventions and harm reduction services to start your recovery journey. You must be at least 12 hours free from opioid use to be eligible for outpatient services.

Their programs vary from emergency care to outpatient services, so you can access treatment that works for you. They provide individual and group counseling, medication assisted treatment, peer support, and case management. With these approaches, you’ll have the support you need to identify the sources of your addiction and sustain recovery. You’ll also benefit from service referrals for ongoing care.

What stands out most to me is their harm reduction resources. Harm reduction can be a precursor to seeking professional treatment. They offer educational resources, a needle exchange program, and Narcan to encourage safer drug use. That way, if you’re not quite ready to start treatment, you can still access tools to stay safe.

Another standout feature is their case management services. They simplify seeking care by providing transportation services. Additionally, your case manager can connect you with community resources to aid in recovery.

Accepted Insurance

UK King’s Daughters Medical Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

As you begin couples therapy in Kentucky, you'll outline the goals for therapy. Your therapist will then arrange to meet with you in weekly joint sessions and, in some cases, individual sessions. You'll receive homework assignments to practice each week between sessions that will help you reach your goals.

Family therapy provides families with a structured environment to address the complexities of addiction. You work with an experienced therapist to develop effective strategies for supporting your loved one's recovery while focusing on the well being of each member of the family unit.

Extremely unprofessional, they do not take the trouble to assist you unless you put pressure on them. They are not interested in your welfare, it seems that they are so busy that you are relegated to the second position of importance

I wish Bellefonte would have never shut down I went and saw the doctor at the beginning of September and he stated that they would call me to schedule my MRI. Called because no one has still called me they stated they have to do a pre-auth on it so I would have to be scheduled 14 days out and they can't do a pre-auth till an appt is scheduled. Wish people would learn to do their jobs the lady said she didn't know why no one had contacted me

I can not, for the life of me, find any word whatsoever, about visiting hours. Every other hospital on the planet posts visiting hours on their website, even if it is 24 hours.

I would like to start by saying that there are some good Dr and nursing care at KDMC, but I experienced discrimination almost every time I go to the hospital itself or urgent care.. and feel that I won t receive the proper care that I would need because of it..

Sadly, I cannot recommend this hospital to anyone. If you look at my reviews, you will see that I always try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt but I just cannot do that when it comes to KDMC. This hospital forever changed my life and not for the good! In 2022, it was discovered that I had a form of hyperthyroidism and my endocrinologist, Dr. Yang said my only option was to have it removed. Well, that turned out not to be true, as there were other options. I think they like to make you do the surgery bc it s worth the most money. I did not realize until it was too late. Dr Yang told me I would feel so much better once my thyroid was gone, but that couldn t be further from the truth. I chose to have the surgery done by Dr. Van Beneden. He had always been very kind to our family and I felt I could trust him to complete what should have been a simple procedure. After having the surgery, I immediately didn t feel well. My calcium started dropping which was supposedly normal, so I was hoping it would get better. They released me as planned and within 24 hrs, I was back at the ER. This went on for days, running back and forth to the ER, waiting for 6 hrs in the waiting room. They should have just readmitted me, rather than making me struggle in the waiting room for hours. I literally felt like I was going to die everyday!!! Well, it turns out, they DESTROYED MY PARATHYROID GLANDS during the surgery. I now have negative parathyroid functioning!! So not only did I lose most of my thyroid, but I lost all of my parathyroid functioning as well. I also recently found out that they left a portion of my thyroid so they have been treating me as if I had a total thyroidectomy when in fact I only had a partial. I have struggled greatly ever since this horrendous surgery. I have to take tons of medications each day. I cannot work or do any of the things I did before. My life has been turned upside down. I am just getting to where I can go a whole week without having to go to the ER (sometimes anyways). I had to change my diet to gluten free, I cannot eat oats, I cannot eat seasonings, or anything that interferes with calcium absorption which is pretty much everything! I have to eat like 4 things everyday. I cannot go out to restaurants or enjoy regular exercise. My sodium stays too low, my sugar stays too low, and I have lost 30 lbs! This is just a small amount of what I go through each day. To sum things up I can no longer do the things normal people get to do! From morning till night I have to focus on living, which has become so stressful. I have severe panic attacks, muscle spasms, twitching, numbness, chest pains, and am extremely sensitivity to cold/hot. I get white stingy spots and pains all over where I am not getting proper blood flow all over. There are times where I cannot even hold my head up. I have had to miss out on so much with my children, grandchildren, and husband. My husband had to give up his job just so he could take care of me. I feel terrible not being able to do regular activities with them. Now KDMC is profiting off of the damage they ve caused which I will be reporting! I filed a report through the BBB and am working on filing complaints to the medical board. I am also writing other officials. I am also working on switching all of my doctors to SOMC. I would ve done it already but frankly, I don t feel like it. I don t feel like doing much of anything for that matter. It s a horrible thing to go through but I am just grateful to God for being alive!! Without God and my family, I would not be here. Oh and my family physician Dr. Christopher Wiler, who has been an absolute lifesaver!!Please, whatever you do, do not have a surgery done here!! Don t have any procedure done here for that matter. This is not the first mistake they have made and it certainly will not be the last!
