My therapist- Karen is the best!On the other hand, I can not say the same for my daughter's therapist- Anthony Johnson.I arranged to leave earlier from work and managed to take her to the group and the individual therapy sessions. They changed my schedule and in the one week, I could not bring her to the individual session with him, he immediately cut his services off. The same week I brought my daughter for her group therapy, keep in mind.He also arranged to stop the services from her psychiatrist- dr. Rivera, from whom she is being prescribed medicines, which you could not just stop taking without serious side effects. My daughter has significant issues- self harming, suicidal thoughts and they just stopped helping her without a valid reason, it shows a lot how much they really care for their patients. This person does not have common human touch, an essential quality for his occupation.

Accepted Insurance

Kenneth Young Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I've been in therapy for a total of 43 years, 10 of which have been with Kenneth Young. I've only had 2 different therapists and would have kept the first one, however she moved into private practice. I am working with Alyssa now and she has been kind compassionate and great, I adore her. Over the decades and for 15 years I went all the way to Evanston to see a psychiatrist. I loved her and I thought we were getting someplace. The second to the last meeting she dumped a statement, on me of her facts and told me, "I thought you knew." I was stunned, bewildered and beyond disappointed. There is no cure for what I have, no pills only therapy. I read every book on it before our next meeting. I imagined all week, who could I have become, had I known. I went one more time, kissed & hugged her good-bye and knew I would never, ever see her again, and I haven't. She never followed up with me anymore either. I was then lucky enough to find Rebecca, who went into private practice, which is when I was blessed enough to get Alyssa. I have tried the group therapy as well. I haven't seen a psychiatrist for over 23 years now, and don't miss them at all. It is terribly hard to find a person you interact well with and at times it can be exhausting, therapy isn't easy, it also is not for the timid or weak. I have seen by every family member who has never had therapy, nor believes in it, and then I have a point of comparison. I no longer act like them and truly see my growth. I am not the man I used to be, but each day I strive to keep on being a better me, than the day before. I am beyond grateful for all the therapists and psychiatrists over the years, but especially to Kenneth Young!

Myself, my teen, 2 littles, and their father have received services here. It's ok for what it is... programs are good in theory but we haven't the best luck with this place although I imagine and would hope they do help a lot of people. Therapists are not experienced enough for serious mental health issues. This is basically their first job and they will leave in a heartbeat when they find a better one. High turnaround and long waitlist. I feel like a number here. Had a really hard time getting medication or any responses when I needed answers. Parent support is helpful, but I've been through 4 in two years. My kids with adjustment issues get matched up with interns that leave in a short amount of time. Little to no communication from therapists in regards to kids leaves me feeling more lost than when we came in. My two sons have serious behavioral issues but were only diagnosed with adjustment disorder (lazy), the man said my son absolutely does not have ADHD. No one seems to know who this man was that I spoke with, they say Dr. Rivera is the child psychiatrist. I recently had a really amazing experience with Dr. Rivera. Went in for subsequent ADHD evaluation for my son and she validated my concerns and gave the diagnosis and prescription my son needed. She was very patient, kind, understanding, knowledgeable, addressed all questions, and took her time with the appointment. I was really looking forward to another appointment with her for my other son, but suddenly someone pulled the rug out from under us. The reason for that I'm not even sure, as nothing had changed and it was already set up and wasn't even communicated that the appointment was canceled. Instead, they want to send my 4 year old to the hospital instead of giving him a chance with another therapist, stating he is "unsafe" because he wanted to leave the room to be with me. I should have been included in the first place, at least until he felt safe. The fact is, he probably did feel unsafe with Rosa as she doesn't seem to do very well with young children. Now they will not let him receive services until he goes to a hospital. Well after the way my son was treated here, he will not be going back. When people come here, we need help, not headaches. Stay away if you have other options and don't give anyone too much of a chance to waste your time if you aren't getting your needs met.

I was in therapy here for 11 years constantly having to switch therapists because they choose to leave or they get fired. Through out all these years they constantly misdiagnosed me and I never ever improved. In fact I m way worse than I was before and they told me I was okay and good to go . They accused me of not taking my medication because it wasn t working for me (how surprising since I was always misdiagnosed). If you want REAL help don t go to this place. They take your money and play you like a fool because they re all fools here. It s incredible that after 11 years they send me off saying there s nothing wrong with me only to get checked somewhere else and told IMMEDIATELY that I have a personality disorder. If you want no help whatsoever, feel free to sign up at Kenneth young.
