About Jewish Family Service

Jewish Family & Children's Services (JFCS) is a substance abuse and mental health treatment program in Phoenix, Arizona, south of Grand Canal Trail. They seek to strengthen the communities they serve with a combination of primary health, behavioral health, and social services. They serve clients of all ages.

JFCS provides services to clients of all faiths and backgrounds. Specialized programs include Jewish community services, domestic violence groups, and integrated healthcare. Services are provided on an outpatient basis.

Outpatient programs provide a low-intensity level of care best suited for clients who experience mild symptoms and are otherwise stable. Clients in these programs do not live at the facility and thus aren’t under constant staff supervision. Clients visit the facility for regular treatment while continuing to live independently at home.

JFCS gives clients a personalized treatment plan focusing on their challenges and lived experiences. Typically, these programs are built around a form of counseling, which may occur in individual and group settings. During sessions, clients learn and practice coping skills that will help them maintain sobriety.

Because outpatient treatment is a low-intensity level of care, clients with severe symptoms may be recommended to a different program for a higher level of care.

When considering a treatment program, clients should first confirm coverage with their insurance provider, as in network and out of network benefits vary.

There's a reason this place is only at 3 stars and honestly it should be lower. They are stalling the process of me getting the help I need by ignoring prior diagnosis' from previous doctors and saying "we can't diagnose you with that because it's a pretty serious diagnosis." Like why do you think I'm seeking services to take care of this serious diagnosis? They're continuously rescheduling me, and they even scheduled me with a person who was leaving the company, because that makes total sense, and ended up rescheduling me again because she left! The front desk guy today was zero help. I came within the 15 minute grace period and Cheryl decided she couldn't see me, why have a grace period if there's no grace!? I've been here for a couple months and I've only been seen once. Just awful services so far.

Accepted Insurance

Jewish Family Service works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Samantha Ferrera Case manager, Nancy Simms Nurse NP. Nancy likes to take 12yr old children rapidly off of SSRIs and Smack them with 300mgs of Triliptol and brush your concerns as a mother under the rug. My child had withdraw symptoms and was incompacitated. See Katie Hoke, SHES AMAZING. She will take the time and make sure your child's dose is on point. I trust her immensely. Samantha Ferrera, she can't seem to prioritize her work, therefore letting high needs cases go weeks between CFTs before doing anything necessaryto move forward care...unless you hold her accountable. Even then she needs a push to get moving. My concerns were not taken seriously, I had to call DCS for help with my child. I work in recovery, I have a good idea of how the system works, including what Levels of care (LOC) people need. Recently, Samantha decided to exclude me from a very important email thread pertaining to my childs care. My concerns were addressed at 5pm...I have left a message with the co-director Jackie (she's amazing btw) and I look forward to hearing back from her soon. I'll update if this is resolved. Even if resolved, I will never refer anyone to this facility, I in fact will go out of my way to protect the public from them by sharing my experiences.

It is a disgusting place that first speaks to you and they tell you an appointment 1:30 and then they change it by means that you have to organize yourself to get an exclusive time for your children. I arrived at 1.14 and they are busy waiting on the line and she says I have to cancel why you were late when she warns me it s 1:27 it s stupid what kind of keys they have are limit 15 min wherever. Mediocre staff

They have gone above and beyond to help. All the staff are great Update: All of the team treating me left and it was not a positive experience after they were gone. I wouldn't recommend them.

It's almost impossible to get a hold of any staff over the phone. When dealing with a delay in treatment, responsiveness can mean the world and this clinic has shown to turn what should be expedient service into a living nightmare. These standards of care are unacceptable.

This place is ridiculous. They don't care about their patients needs. I had scheduled an appointment for my son well we were 15 min late but they told me I coukd be when I called I got there and they said I needed to reschedule. So I did and mistakenly I came in at noon and the appointment was at 11. It was an accident however they told me im not allowed to come back because of that. It wasn't about me or the Dr it was for my 10 year old child and if they cared for their patients they would have rescheduled. Very UNPROFESSIONAL.

If I could give 0 starts I would.Let me write the most honest and heartfelt review.First off, my daughter has been at JFCS since the age of 5. She has had so many different diagnoses including Bipolar with acute psychosis at the age of 7! Come to find out, since then she has been diagnosed with AUTISM. Over the course of treatment they claim you re an unfit parent unless you turn your WHOLE LIFE UPSIDE DOWN just to make it to an appointment. Her nurse practitioner made claims of calling CPS on me because my daughter was refusing to take her medication and made several comments saying that I should have my daughter taken away because I wouldn t force medication down her throat. Her past therapist when I mentioned that she was hurting the animals in our home (to help find a therapeutic solution) she stated that we need to get rid of all of our pets and they aren t our child .The case managers are a joke. My daughter was just assigned a new case manager and when sending a referral for services SHE MADE ME PRINT OUT ALL THE FORMS AND FILL THEM OUT! Then they claim you have to meet with them once a week in person or virtually. They can t keep kids on their medication and when you complain about treatment they retaliate then they call CPS on you.As someone who already works in the behavioral health/special education field for over 7 years, if you value your child and your own mental health, stay away from this place.
