Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Absolute amateurs.

It is embarrassing that these hacks get to bill insurance like a "real" healthcare provider. Stay home. My doctors (plural) told me to discontinue these services because they were harming my recovery process. Thankfully I took that advice.

The staff is very unhelpful and short tempered. They are all very rude, both on the phone and in person. My counselor didn’t bother to know my backstory, or how was I actually doing.

ER doctor was amazing, very thorough and did not feel rushed. However, upon arrival my baby was struggling to breathe and the women at the reception counter near the entrance to the pediatric ER was soooo nonchalant and did not even get up from their seats to get a nurses attention or to direct us to a nurse. The front desk receptionist had two nurses who were extremely rude to all patients and were looking at wedding venues on their computers. We were in the pediatric ER on Christmas Eve from 3pmish to 9:30pmish. The security guard was smoking a cigarette near the front of the hospital and I was able to breathe it in while in the chairs in the waiting room. We are from up north and were forced to stop at this hospital because it was considered good enough by our pediatrician and we were down the shore for the holidays. To say the least, I couldn t imagine if my baby turned blue if the staff would have had any urgency to check my baby. And the cherry on top? There was a man walking up and down the hallways and the nurses told the security guard after the third attempt that this man attempted to be in the pediatric wing with NO child. Finally security got involved. I was appalled at the safety concerns. But glad to know the two female nurses were browsing wedding venues on their work computers at the reception counter since it appeared more important than patient care on a holiday weekend.I only recommend this hospital if desperate and not able to drive back up north for care for pediatrics. Because the local hospital by the shore are even worse .

I had to go to the Amdur building for pre-op blood work/EKG and to have a uterine polyp removed the day after Christmas, an outpatient procedure requiring anesthesia. The whole process was efficient, and the nurses, doctors, and support staff involved were all friendly and helpful.

3 hours and my 2 year old hasn t been seen by anyone other than the nurses who take your vitals. I have spinal nerve damage, sitting and standing too long has aggravated my condition. My child has fallen asleep and the nurses and doctors just walk around and sit around gossiping, flirting, and buying coffee. One made fun of a family across for complaining about their 5 hour wait time saying They can wait, the child isn t dying . Just horrible and unprofessional behavior!

I recently had a C-Section in August and had a terrible experience in room 209 with my nurse Grace S. Shortly after arriving to my room we realized we needed to change rooms. She said we could change rooms, but that I would have to walk to the other room after just having a C-Section. I had to beg for a wheelchair and assistance. While she was preparing my sanitary pad for the move she dropped it face down on the dirty hospital floor and continued to put it on my diaper before I stopped her and requested a new setup. She kept pushing me to give my baby a bath right after birth even when I repetitively declined. She confused my male baby for a female while he was in nursery and laughed when I corrected her on his gender. Whenever I asked her for Tylenol or Motrin she would ask me the last time I received it. I was not provided food from 12 pm - 6 pm despite being on a regular diet and asking several times for food.I love my OBGYN Dr. Morgan and highly recommend him. Dr. Morgan deserves 5 stars!! He truly cares for you and your baby. After my terrible experience I am unsure if I will return to Jersey Shore for my next delivery. As a nurse for over six years I was deeply disappointed.

I took my son to Jersey Shore last night at 9pm for hives and a fever after finding a tick in his ear on the 22nd of December. there were empty rooms, but my sun and my 2.5 year old daughter and myself were in the hallway until midnight. I noticed that Jewish people and more than likely undocumented Spanish people were in the rooms. I was outside of room 2 and a family came in with their 12 year old son who displayed covid symptoms. they were not wearing masks and weren't asked to put any on for the safety of other children waiting in the hallway. One of the nurses gave my daughter crayons and paper to color on, bit she for bored real quick. I waited 3 hours in the ER from 9pm to midnight sure to the fact that the Jewish families were seen first when though they got there well after my son. In my opinion, they show preference to Jewish families and undocumented people.

I was in the Rosa unit (psych ward), and I would personally like to send this review to a nurse named Al. When you need to come here, you are at a very low and difficult time of your life. I was taking the max dose of an antidepressant that I NEED to take, which the doctors believed was causing my problem. I brought the medicine with me, but the doctors took me off of it which gave me the worst withdrawal side effects of my life. I could have had someone bring me a smaller dose to ease the withdrawals, but they didn't let me. I also have post concussion syndrome, which causes me to be very sensitive to bright lights and sounds that we're seriously magnified by the withdrawals. I was having massive panic attacks every day because of the sensory overstimulation and withdrawals. I needed dose of anxiety medication, which the doctor said was ok to take, and I would take it before the panic attack would get out of control. Every other nurse understood this and gave it to me when I started to feel the panic coming. I felt the attack coming, and went to my nurse Al to get the medication. She didn't believe me at all, and told me that I seemed like an addict trying to get my fix. I am 10 years sober. I told her the doctor said I can take it when I needed to, but she kept on denying, saying it was up to her discretion to decide if I needed it and not the doctors. She had a seriously nasty attitude toward me, and was completely abusing whatever power she felt she had. I went back to my room, and within a half hour I began to have the worst panic attack of my life. I went to the nurses and they checked my blood pressure which was 200 over 100. But Al was nowhere to be found, and none of the nurses would help me. I had to wait another 20 minutes at least before Al returned. She finally gave me the medicine, and I tried to explain to her my withdrawals and might and sound sensitivity were out of control giving me a massive panic attack. She kept cutting me off and said "These lights aren't like the sun, they're not strong enough to cause that. You sound like an addict trying to get your fix." ( Another patient actually explained to me that those florescent lights are 5600 kelvin hot paired with UV lights that are the same spectrum as the sun after this terrible episode). I kept trying to explain to her what was going on, and then she said with a terrible tone of voice "now you're starting to spike my anxiety. You're just trying to get your fix like an addict." That's when I started to cry and went back to me room. I've never been treated so bad and judged this bad in my entire life, I was so heartbroken on top of the panic attack. How isn't a nurse in the psych ward not aware about antidepressant withdrawal and how severe they can be, especially without a reduction to a smaller dose? How doesn't a nurse understand post concussion syndrome and the terrible effects that has on someone's life? No nurse should be that ignorant and that dismissive and mean, especially in a psych ward. No nurse should use her position to give herself a judgemental power trip. She talked with such a nasty tone that I began to think she was racist. She should be fired, because I was suicidal and something like this could lead to the end of someone's life. I am only giving 2 stars because a nurse named Brian was amazing and some of the other doctors are very caring and smart, like Dr. Berger.

This hospital aka playground for tight scrubs & hurt people is ridiculous. it s like pulling teeth to get somebody to actually care or help you. i can count on 1 hand how many good nurses i ve had here & i ve been coming here for years. this scrub talent show you call a hospital is by far the worst ever. unless you fell & scraped your knee & it s minor don t come here. they don t care about your well being. it s all about platform crocs , tight scrubs , apple watches & stanley cups.

Went for pre-surgical testing @ Amdur Building. Restroom in the hallway was disgusting, no toilet paper, used paper towels all over the floor. Woman who reviewed my medical records was arrogant & difficult. Asked me the same questions multiple times. Am I supposed to have a good impression of this facility?Update: I had cancer surgery @ JSUMC (outpatient) on Dec. 10th. My surgeon & her office are great; however from the very beginning I have experienced conflicting information from various departments in the hospital regarding scheduling, what building to go to, post surgical care, etc. I have never had a more negative medical experience. It is stressful enough to have cancer & to have to go through several tests & then surgery but to be given incorrect & conflicting information is unacceptable. The support staff seems to have no consideration of the patient & it is just a corporate factory of dehumanized care. VERY disappointed.
