I really enjoyed my class mates and most of my staff at HC. This may work for some people, but it has failed me many times in the past. This experience was no different. An assessment being done should not be done by the IOP teacher who later turns and uses it against you. If you are recommended for further classes, they also will not help you find an outside organization, even when those times don't comply with your working schedule. They could care less if you can't pay your bills; and simply do not look out for the best interest of the client. It's all about money at the end of the day. It's sad. As a professional, it's highly unethical that students know about ADHD or any other family drama from a teacher. I can't speak on the counselors, and the Seeking Safety lady, but I would never recommend the St. Albans office FOR ANYONE serious about recovery. Job security is of utmost importance at HC. For the sake of your sanity, go to NCSS or any surrounding areas. If this works for you, GREAT. It did not for me, and for many other people. It's a sad reality when treatment is considered superior to working and getting back to real life.

First, I see the same guy gave a 5-star, then later 1-star review. As a place that deals with addicts, by nature those who don t follow the rules is gonna be angry. Not saying that s what happened, but it makes sense.Anyway, best place around. I had the best counselor for years here and my doctor now works here, Dr. White, and she is AMAZING. Her entire staff is great. I can t say enough good things. Love you guys, thanks for teaching me how to live.

Accepted Insurance

Howard Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs approach recovery as a life-long process that requires robust, individualized, and ongoing care. Clients in drug rehab aftercare have typically completed detox and intensive inpatient treatment and are weeks or months into their recovery journey. These programs are designed to promote clients' continued sobriety through a comprehensive portfolio of services aligned with the clients' evolving needs. Peer coaching, career counseling, and relapse prevention services are standard in these continuing care programs.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs strongly prioritize peer coaching and personal growth, creating a standard emulated by many treatment centers. Spiritual principles define the 12 step recovery paradigm and are designed to help participants address the root causes of their addiction, accept personal responsibility for their life choices, and relinquish control over that which cannot be changed. Participants regularly attend group meetings, which are free, peer-directed, and anonymous. They also select sponsors to mentor them in their recovery.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

During cognitive behavioral therapy in Vermont, you may set SMART goals, engage in guided discovery, journal, and participate in cognitive restructuring. These activities help change patterns of thinking and behavior to address substance use and mental health disorders effectively.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

The core principles of motivational interviewing are acceptance, compassion, partnership, and evocation. This collaborative process offers a nonjudgmental environment where the therapist expresses sympathy, highlights the client's strengths, and empowers them to explore necessary change.

During trauma therapy, you work through the traumatic memories of an event you witnessed or experienced in a safe and supportive place. Your therapist will provide you with the tools needed to process the trauma, which in turn reduces your symptoms and improves your overall mental health.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
