About High Watch Recovery

High Watch Recovery is an addiction and mental health treatment facility located in Kent, Connecticut. When it was established in 1939, this clinic became the world’s very first 12-step treatment center. Now, the facility strives to provide customized support to patients who are in need of addiction treatment, mental health services, or help with co-occurring disorders.

High Watch Recovery accepts Aetna, Ameriben, Cigna, UMR, United, Meritain, Connecticare and many others. The clinic also accepts commercial health insurance.

The facility helps with interventions, detox services, residential programs and online IOP assistance. The clinic also has a unique equine assisted learning program, which involves the use of horses to promote recovery. The program consists of four three hour sessions where patients are encouraged to interact and groom the horses as they learn more about vulnerability, fear, depression, grief and other tough emotions.

One noteworthy accomplishment is that High Watch Recovery was awarded Sacred Heart University’s “Clinical Site of the Year” award in 2023. This achievement was designed to recognize the clinic for its commitment to educating Physician Assistant Students in the Healthcare industry.

Another great aspect of this program is the impact it has on the overall quality of life of former patients. According to the clinic, 95% of patients who successfully complete Extended Care leave the facility more confident and feeling accomplished. This truth is also reflected in feedback from former patients. The facility has a very high overall rating. Many former patients say that the facility is life changing and has a wonderful staff.

I went here in January 2023. I was there for about a year- between the rehab and the sober living, Eden Hill. It wasn t a good experience. Rehab can be jarring, but the unprofessionalism of the staff and the lack of care made me feel unsupported. I saw staff members share explicit photos with each other at the beginning of my stay. Making bracelets and reading the big book is kind of all there is to do. I was later accused of something my roommate did. Because the nature of the patients I boarded with there was gossip that was often collaborated with by the staff. This was my experience. I wish I had a choice to go somewhere else but at the time I did not.

Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

High watch saved my life. I was a 25 year old still living in my parents basement drinking and using drugs constantly and had absolutely no way out. I was without hope that I would ever live a full, happy life. It still boggles my mind how lucky I was to be sent to a place l ... Read More

Highwatch provided the tough love that I needed to start my recovery. It is a very structured program that shows you the path to recovery...and they start the journey with you. I highly recommend Highwatch to those seeking recovery from drugs and alcohol.

Been to Highwatch as a person seeking recovery. It s laughable to suggest an individual struggling with a lifelong addiction problem will be helped by a 28 day period of abstinence from their drug of choice. Great food and a high end country club atmosphere has nothing to do with treatment for a problem that will kill you if not taken seriously. Bill Wilson would be ashamed. Complete and utter hogwash!!

Consider Highwatch Recovery at your own risk. There are NO email addresses on their website to contact people, but they have a button to leave a review on Google (presumably for compliments). That is pathetic. Anyone effected by addiction knows its a family disease. The inability to communicate with staff or qualifiers denies that reality. Focus is one thing....myopic thought processes are another.

Sure, they are very expensive. But my time there was very fulfilling & worth it. I learned alot there & loved it, especially working with the horses & volleyball. Although, the people you meet there seem like great friends who will go to meetings with you & be awesome afterwards.. No, not at all. It's like everything is out the window with fellow "friends" you'd think would be supportive afterwards. They have some very weird long term dudes who don't belong there like Travis & Mr. Cigar.

There are no doubt many great treatment centers in the world, but High Watch is unmatched for the caliber of its staff, its interdisciplinary treatment model combining great clinical care with AA, and its beautiful grounds (and great food). When you need help, this is the place and these are the people you want to be there for you. I'm forever grateful they were for me.

Started uncontrollable drinking at 20 and lost the next 15 years of my life. After multiple hospital trips and 2 detox's- I was about to walk to the packy when my legs gave out and I fell down. That's when I decided I had enough and my parents had High Watch's number on the counter. I called, said I needed help- and High Watch's staff took care of all the details. It was my first rehab and I was terrified and couldn't think straight for 3 weeks. When they recommend staying as long as you can- its strictly for your benefit. I found a private spot and took the second step. I went to the scheduled meetings, listened, took notes and stayed 4 months. I am confident that nearly 6 years later my desire to maintain sobriety has only been achieved by the tools High Watch gave me.

I wonder how much cheaper the cost of staying at High Watch detox ($5,000 a day to get your bp checked and get vistaril) and residency ($28,000 )would be if they didn't have such lavish, expensive, trips and parties. Every photo here is of red carpet pics, off site fancy trips and parties, fancy dinners, company golf outings, ad Russell Brand ( who it looks like you may want to distance yourself from now ). My favorite is the pictures of the top brass having a good time at Disney's Grand Floridian...the most expensive resort at DW. You guys spare no expenses when it comes to parties, trips, nad BonJovi Tributes??? Show them the luxury that residents live in in upper steele. No palm trees or pools there..

After a week they ran my debit card for the 14k. Got declined.. duh. STATE POLICE CAME and took me away in an ambulance. If I knew any better I should have sued. They never asked for the money I owed ($600/day). The food was good. Only 3% become sober. Good luck
