Hi. I have to leave a review, not something I normally do. I had a negative experience with Ashley. She does not seem happy to be there or to really help my teenage son. She doesn t make eye contact when she enters the room with the parent and seems uncomfortable in her own skin. My daughter went there and liked it (my daughter just wanted to talk about normal teenage girl drama- she didn t really need therapy and she is very easy to get along with) so I decided to bring my son (who has a more pessimistic personality) and he said he didn t want to talk so instead of trying to get him to speak she said okay and ended the session within 1 minute. (I am not exaggerating). I just got the bill. I can t believe she billed my insurance for that. She really needs some additional training on how to handle young teenagers and also how to interact better with parents and say hello and look at them when she speaks to them (basic stuff). I m highly disappointed in the service I received there. I do not recommend Ashley. Please try a different therapist if you decide to go to HBH.

I would highly recommend Bassie Falkowitz. She is an incredibly compassionate, empathetic and understanding person. She offers important and helpful perspectives, while also challenging you and holding you accountable. She is extremely knowledgeable and personable and would be a great fit for the client who truly wants to grow!

THIS PLACE is Sickening!!! Worst counseling services EVER!!! I had problems trusting people, and now it has only gotten worse. I was having counseling sessions with my extremely unprofessional counselor Ashley Sheridan. After a few sessions I figured I could trust her. Man was I wrong!! I received word that Ashley would share my personal information with other people!! She turned out to be extremely judgemental of her clients. I do not understand how this girl claims to be a counselor. One can clearly tell she is only in it for the money and to judge others so she can feel better about herself. I do not understand how ANY employer would hire someone like her. I guess when there is a shortage of counselors, it's best to grab any pulse off the street.Needless to say, I have decided to stop going to therapy altogether. After having such a deviating experience with HBH Counseling, I could never see myself speaking with another heartless therapist like Ashley Sheridan! Thanks for nothing HBH Counseling!! You have completely destroyed the little trust left in me!!

Accepted Insurance

HBH Counseling works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I cannot speak highly enough of HBH and their therapists.I ve been working with my therapist, Bethany, for years now and she has changed my life for the better. She is always actively trying to help me improve my way of thinking by means of action and not just talk therapy. She s always adaptable to my needs depending on where I m at during my sessions and allows me the space I need to safely navigate my emotions. I ve never once felt judged during any of my ups or downs. I ve worked with many therapists growing up, and finding her was such a blessing and nothing short of a miracle. Not to brag (just kidding I m totally bragging), but I definitely have the best therapist anyone could ever ask for.I ve also been in a variety of their groups that are run by other therapists in the practice and each counselor has been engaging and passionate about what they do. Their groups are informative, supportive, and respectful.HBH genuinely cares for their patients . I ve never had a negative experience with them. If you re looking to change your life for the better, this is the place you ve been searching for. I absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for help.

I have found this practice to be extremely effective for my needs and extremely professional in doing so. I would highly recommend this group if you are looking for an empathetic, knowledgeable and trustworthy therapist. The virtual appointment has allowed me to connect when otherwise it would be too far for a weekly session. I cannot fully express my gratitude for their service.

I appreciated their candor in telling me they felt I needed someone more qualified to help me with my needs, but that was definitely a clear way for them to not have to deal with the legal issues I am facing. And I made that clear during the in-take questioninig over the phone before my first session.

As a treatment provider, I have referred many clients to HBH. They are the real deal. I've met many of their therapists and can assure you that they are highly skilled/trained in their areas of expertise. They do it all: groups, individual, family, and more. This is not a cookie cutter model- they tailor fit treatment to the client's individual needs. Would recommend.

Honestly, I haven t seen or met all of the therapists that work at HBH but the therapist I was seeing was.. an awful fit for me and it has been a terrible experience. I saw her for quite a while, years, actually and it s been nothing but rocky, unreliable, and unhelpful and in some cases made me feel worse and not because of the work required during therapy but because of bad therapy all together from the therapist I was seeing. I should have left long ago. I will admit that there were some good sessions but the bad outweighs the good in this case. The groups, however, were helpful.

It has taken me along time to find the right therapist. They are wonderful and have help me so much. You call them and return the call and put you with the right therapist for you. That mean so much is to have someone that is the right fit for you. If you are looking for therapist this is the right place to look.
