About Harmony Hills

Harmony Hills is a 67 acre ranch in Altoona, Florida, that provides drug and alcohol rehab services for adults. In addition to substance abuse disorder (SUD), their staff has treatment programs for various mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety. They are a private facility with luxury amenities.

Harmony Hills places importance on psychotherapy as a tool for recovery. They explore various aspects of a client’s life in the past and present to examine the causes of their addictive behaviors.

Inpatient care offers an intense level of care for the most severe addiction symptoms. Clients receive support around the clock from a comprehensive health and support team while living in the facility. The length of a stay depends on a client’s needs, with extended treatment options available.

Clients are connected with a care team of counselors and therapists to craft a custom care plan that best addresses each client’s needs. In addition to medical support, clients learn coping skills through individual, group, and family therapy, 12 step therapy, relapse prevention education, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and EMDR therapy.

Harmony Hills has additional programs focusing on mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. Sometimes, such problems can develop in those struggling with addiction or addictive behaviors who get used to coping with mental illness. Co-occurring disorder treatment allows staff to treat not only addiction but adjacent mental health concerns as well.

Co-occurring disorder treatment utilizes the same therapeutic approaches but simply adjusts the focus to include other diagnosed mental disorders. It’s been shown to decrease the chances of relapse in clients where mental illness exists alongside addiction.

The ultimate goal of the inpatient program is to prepare clients to return to their daily lives with a better understanding of addictive behaviors and the skills needed to overcome them. Before exiting the program, the cafe team works with clients to develop an aftercare plan focused on setting future goals and connecting with community resources that can help support ongoing recovery.

Accepted Insurance

Harmony Hills works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Their nutritional counselors create individualized nutritional plan for each client. In addition, they offer a fitness coach that also creates an individualized plan that better fits the client's needs.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I recently went there and arrived on 21 November upon arriving there I was told by administrations that there would be horses a pool and my service animal would be allowed to accompany me with only needing food and lots of poop bags when I got there, I was told by a therapist That I would need a service dog registration, but to not bring it up until Monday when I could speak to administration upon Getting to Monday I was stressed and worried the entire time about my accommodations for my service dog. I was there for multiple reasons and within my first three days I got written up For playing staff members because I could never get any answers out of anybody on what I would need in the paperwork that would need to be provided They were not going by ADA law and I was extremely paranoid Upon By the end of the week, they accommodated my service dog, but left very outrageous rules, including she must be On leash 24/7 And working which is against ada lol due to my service dog is trained off leash for medical Reasons on top of my Service dog is Not a robot when I had an incident with the staff members there about my treatment and They argued with me they use my service dog as leverage saying that if I do not Calm down, they will send my service dog Meanwhile, I was the one that was being calm and they were the ones cornering me in a laundry room While I was there everybody there called it Harmony hell hole My sister s dog is 100% trained and while I was there, he never Therapist told me that my service dog was not a Service dog because she is cross trained for multiple disabilities And because when I had her off leash for five minutes Playing ball And she barked three times out of Excitement and kicked me out because of it My insurance paid $4000 a day for them to kick me out from one small incident. They restricted everybody from petting my Service dog and per ADA law It is up to the owner, whether somebody can pet their service dog. It was tortured to everybody there and I had no issues with it, but got written up twice for letting people pet my dog a lot of of the text there Would also break this role, especially the head of the administration, Kim Broke this role and then I had to go and reinforce it a few days later They ended up administrative Discharging me because of my service Dog being off leash and me breaking their outrageous role because my dog Could not be a dog Even though she is a service dog Keep in mind my service dog is over $100,000 this place is awful. There is nothing. That is advertised that is true. There is no Horses there is no pool. It is green The text there and Therapist are very disrespectful and understanding when you re in a psychotic mental Or PTSD episodes, they will corner you and scream at you egg you on and talk shit behind your back They don t care about your disabilities, though they advocate for mental health they use your hard times, a.k.a. your meltdowns that you have there as teaching opportunities for other students which is extremely Embarrassing whenever your mental health episode is being Used as an educational moment, which is being dragged on The therapist there are very Gaslighting and condescending they lie get you in trouble The facilities there are falling apart I stayed in cabin two with no heat or AC whatever temperature it was outside was the temperature in the cabin The showerheads were awful. You got 2 20 minute phone calls a week It was honestly like a prison there

Our daughter recently graduated from this awesome program. She had been in treatment a few places before this and Harmony Hills provided comprehensive care like no other. Her therapist Ellie, Case Mgr Jameeka, Tech Shannon, Nurse and group leaders were excellent, knowledgeable, and caring. Our daughter said it was the best therapy she d ever experienced and the first that worked on her trauma. Harmony also found an amazing IOP that she is currently participating in. We are eternally grateful for Harmony Hills!

I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible care my loved one received at Harmony Hills. After entering their mental health program, the clinical team made a world of difference in her journey. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, she faced significant challenges, including ongoing hallucinations, but the support she received was truly transformative. The dedication and compassion of the team were evident from day one. They spent ample time working with her, helping her navigate her condition and providing the guidance she desperately needed. Their expertise in medication management was particularly impressive; they took the time to explain the importance of her treatment plan, ensuring she felt empowered and informed about her health. It was heartening to see her progress, and I truly believe that without their support, it would have been a much more difficult journey.I highly recommend Harmony Hills for anyone seeking dedicated, compassionate care for mental health challenges. They genuinely care about their patients and make a lasting impact on their lives. Thank you, Harmony Hills, for everything you have done for our family!

Review of Harmony HillsHarmony Hills claims to offer residential treatment, but my daughter s experience was far from therapeutic. One of the key elements of effective treatment is maintaining a structured schedule with meaningful activities to promote both physical and mental health. Unfortunately, this was completely lacking. Patients were left to spend countless days with little to no structure, which is detrimental for those seeking recovery.During her stay, patients were required to leave their belongings in assigned cabins while attending group therapy and other activities. My daughter s shoes and toiletries went missing, and despite reporting the issue, the facility did nothing to resolve it or compensate her for the loss. This added unnecessary stress to an already difficult time.To make matters worse, her case manager, Jameeka Biggham, was unhelpful in assisting us with finding a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) for step-down care. My daughter s treatment was supposed to last four weeks, but when insurance stopped covering the stay, the facility quickly discharged her, leaving us scrambling to find appropriate aftercare.Patients seek treatment to heal, not to worry about their personal belongings being stolen or to face abrupt discharges without proper transition planning. Harmony Hills failed to provide the safe, supportive, and professional environment they advertise. Our experience was deeply disappointing, and I wouldn t recommend this facility to anyone looking for reliable and structured care.

It's one if not the only treatment center in florida that will give you all of your medication without forcing you off of certain ones. The classes are great and the techs are funny and fair. I'm trying to go back actually because my after care got derailed and this is the only place I want to go. They put on a dance for us once and it was the nicest thing and the effort they go to for things like that is above and beyond. My therapist, Ellie, was amazing and she was so soft spoken and kind. The group facilitators like Jeff and Greg are amazing and they care deeply. The trauma group is calming and healing and everyone trusts everyone. I hope I can be admitted back and do some things differently this time.Oh and the food is amazing. The pool is closed but they put together a splash pad day for us with water balloons and it made everything OK.Oh yea and one patient kept randomly getting naked and running around or down the street and he was treated kindly still.
