About Harmony Hills

Harmony Hills is a 67 acre ranch in Altoona, Florida, that provides drug and alcohol rehab services for adults. In addition to substance abuse disorder (SUD), their staff has treatment programs for various mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety. They are a private facility with luxury amenities. Harmony Hills places importance on psychotherapy as a tool for recovery. They explore various aspects of a client's life in the past and present to examine the causes of their addictive behaviors.

Inpatient care offers an intense level of care for the most severe addiction symptoms. Clients receive support around the clock from a comprehensive health and support team while living in the facility. The length of a stay depends on a client’s needs, with extended treatment options available.

Clients are connected with a care team of counselors and therapists to craft a custom care plan that best addresses each client’s needs. In addition to medical support, clients learn coping skills through individual, group, and family therapy, 12 step therapy, relapse prevention education, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and EMDR therapy.

Harmony Hills has additional programs focusing on mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia. Sometimes, such problems can develop in those struggling with addiction or addictive behaviors who get used to coping with mental illness. Co-occurring disorder treatment allows staff to treat not only addiction but adjacent mental health concerns as well.

Co-occurring disorder treatment utilizes the same therapeutic approaches but simply adjusts the focus to include other diagnosed mental disorders. It’s been shown to decrease the chances of relapse in clients where mental illness exists alongside addiction.

The ultimate goal of the inpatient program is to prepare clients to return to their daily lives with a better understanding of addictive behaviors and the skills needed to overcome them. Before exiting the program, the cafe team works with clients to develop an aftercare plan focused on setting future goals and connecting with community resources that can help support ongoing recovery.

My experience with Harmony Hills was a little different but overall, outstanding! I contacted them for residential care for my husband (depression, anxiety, and PTSD). The explanation of their facility, services and staff was very comprehensive. Their pre-assessment was easy to follow, understand and respond to. Unfortunately, because of my husband s medical conditions, they couldn t provide the level of medical care he needed. This makes sense because they are not a medical facility . What I want to share is that their support for me and my husband didn t stop after denial. Tyler, from their client liaison team, reached out and helped me find another facility that could support my husband s medical needs as well. He followed up with me daily (sometimes several times a day), wanted to make sure my husband was OK, safe, and even offered a support group for me to attend for those that have loved ones in rehab. I can t say enough about Harmony Hills and the associates that I interacted with. They are professional, caring, and empathetic. I wouldn t hesitate to recommend this treatment facility!

Accepted Insurance

Harmony Hills works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Their nutritional counselors create individualized nutritional plan for each client. In addition, they offer a fitness coach that also creates an individualized plan that better fits the client's needs.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Hello, everyone(staff/supervisors/directors) from Harmony Hills these reviews are horrible. You need to have a meeting with your staff and do better. Patients go there to receive help as described on books. They need attention and compassion. If you do not like what you do change your career.

Do not send a loved one with any issues to this location. If the patient is a problem in anyway they will throw you out. Straight drive to the salvation army shelter in Orlando. No discharge meds, no follow up. Case workers who hide behind voice mail. Decided the patient had a different condition then they could handle. So off her meds to keep her stable. Once she fell off the wagon, they tossed her out the door. They are behavior health facility that can't handle patients who have issues. Look elsewhere. If you don't care about the person you sending here, then this is place will suffice until they throw them out. All without notice. Matters nothing if patient lives 1200 miles away. Out the door and to the shelter you will go. Effectively making the patient homeless when family could make better decisions.

Never go here if you are looking for help with the following conditions: self-harm behaviors, suicidal ideation, dissociative identity disorder (DID), or personality disorders other than borderline.I've never seen a mental health facility so BLATANTLY lie about having the capacity to care for those of us with chronic mental illness. They write all these therapeutic platitudes on their website and the intake specialists say all the right things on the phone, but either (a) they're lying or (b) they are so far removed from the actual treatment program that they have no idea what is going on.Harmony Hills repeatedly hospitalizes people who are struggling with self-harm and suicidal ideation, despite advertising on their website that they specialize in these conditions. They tell you that if you're hospitalized you can come back once you've "stabilized"; that's a blatant lie. I've never seen someone be allowed back.If you have DID, they will call you delusional and psychotic. They will tell you your trauma isn't real, even if you have people who can confirm your credibility on the outside, and they will tell you that your dissociation is actually just evidence of psychosis. This happened not only to me, but to another person I met while I was there. That person managed to escape by leaving AMA, while I was unfortunately hospitalized by Harmony Hills against my will.Harmony Hills is a rehab facility that masquerades as a mental health treatment center. So if you plan on going here, know this: Harmony Hills will not help you unless you are seeking help with substance abuse and/or acute depression, short-term stress, and similar conditions. Even then, the groups are often unproductive, and you will find it very hard to be heard. And if you're struggling with self-harm or suicidal ideation, they will just take your money, Baker Act you, and not allow you to ever come back.

Phenomenal staff and beautiful location. I learned so much about myself and my condition from the top notch therapists. It really shows that the staff cares and they get fired up when you are there for the right reasons. The BHT s were fantastic because most of them have been right where the guests are and have struggled with their own issues. Great food from the kitchen staff and my case manager really helped me. Thank you for everything you have done for me. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone with addiction and or mental health struggles.
