outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients in a rehab aftercare program have typically completed detox and intensive inpatient and are medically stable. These programs are designed to address addiction recovery as a life-long process. Outpatient counseling and recovery education are typically categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive support after being discharged from formal outpatient treatment. Case managers and recovery teams facilitate clients' access to peer coaching, career counseling, 12 step program induction, and related services.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Most experts in couples therapy are trained in several modes of treatment. This allows your therapist to draw from various techniques to personalize your therapy for your needs. This may include cognitive, emotional, and behavioral methods, which are all designed to help you strengthen your relationship.

I understand this program helps some, and that is a good thing.Go at it. For others, it is punishment for having had a lapse in judgement. The sessions get coarse and boisterous. They force you to sign a contract, only to throw it in your face if there is something you don't like down the road. Turns out, not every case requires a contract! (There are instances when the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing.) The family meetings are counterproductive. What is the point if you can't attend and listen to what they have to say? This can potentially create tension between family members. What happened to honesty and openness? They are also big on AA. AA is not for everyone! Attendance should be a personal choice, not a threat in order to be released from the program. No, there is no meeting after the meeting after the meeting like one counselor said. Some of us have a life away from this. Live and let live. Glad I was able to leave without much grief....

I dreaded going to this program everyday because of how tuff it was and trying to make it out alive! Once I left I realized how much was instilled in me, which no other consequence or program was able to do! Bill taught me more about addiction then Iv ever known! Even when I have a slip up I know not to follow the same road that got me in my situation! I m grateful even after all the hell! I could basically say this program and Bill saved my life so far

I wish there was an option to give zero stars. Unfortunately, these types of programs are never a treat, but knowing that you or your loved ones are getting the help that is truly needed is beyond critical. These people play games with sick/struggling individuals, and they are more concerned with your money than your well being. Try Somerset Treatment Services on the other side of town. The difference in integrity, ethics and respect for their clients is overwhelming.

Two family members of mine have had to attend this program due to idrc recommendations. I have attended the family program which is a very important part of recovery. The reasons I give it 3 stars :1: The program coordinators do know what they are doing, the ones I have met are sweet and very professional. That is 5 stars.2. Bill the program coordinator is extremely smart and knows every aspect of addiction. He is respectful and also shows tough love which is important in addiction recovery. 5 stars for him all the way.3. The building is not in great shape. And many people in attendance vape all over the building which is uncomfortable. There is dirt on the walls from people walking by. I hope they move so that doesn't drive people away. 2 star's.4.*****Most important reason**** family nights are once a month and Bill repeats the same exact lecture. I wish there was more family education which helps people and families there for true addicts. I also wish there was more counseling options, if not through GLS a referral to further resources.

I have been taking Lyft for the past 20 odd weeks. This past week was the last Lyft I took to 75 Veterans Memorial Dr. (obligatorily, though I will visit again by choice). Google is funny sometimes it asks if you would you like to comment on this place almost always I don t.This was my last week at Guided Life Structures (GLS). Google asked for a comment so here it is I did not have a chance to review GLS before I came here so hopefully it helps someone.I came to GLS by way of IDRC (Intoxicated Driver Resource Center). This was a consequence of my DUI. At IDRC they perform an interview and recommend next steps to get ones license back. Most if not all of those next steps involve additional intervention . I was not really given a choice as to my intervention . A piece of paper with different agencies and I had to pick one then no choice to look it over, call about the program, do some (any) research. I chose GLS for 2 reasons, 1) it was close to the IDRC, which was close to where I lived at the moment 2) their hours seemed good for my schedule.I was out of work at the time so good news is GLS had funding to waive the fees. Better news is that I got a job a couple of months afterwards but that is another story. My point is that GLS seems to work with you in regards to cost so that s good.WHO: AnonymousWHAT: DUI > IDRC > GLSWHERE: Guided Life Structures, 75 Veterans Memorial Dr E #205, Somerville, NJ 08876WHEN: Past 16 weeks. You have a contract (no choice, based on evaluation) that states the terms. My contract was for 16 weeks, attend twice a week for two hours each visit, attend 16 Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings, have a friend/family member attend 3 meetings geared towards their relationship with a (potential) addict (ie separate from the meetings I attend).I know big time commitment, not fun, expensive getting Lyft rides I get the point. Do not drink and drive get a Lyft/Uber/Taxi.WHY: As I said, I didn t get much of a choice in picking GLS. That said, after finishing my 16 week contract, there were benefits. (I won t belabor the cost, sucks to be me, but my fault, so my consequences).I had a narrow world view. At GLS I met a variety of people: old, young, men, women, addicts, non-addicts. I learned a lot of about addiction. Drugs I did know about, drugs I didn t know about, how to do those drugs, where to get those drugs (text me) (JK).More important for me during my 16 weeks were the folks sharing the journey. I got to know them better than I wanted to (my goal was to pass the time and move on). I met cowards (afraid to look inward), fools (drug-addled?), warriors (see next paragraph).WARRIORS: I met many courageous folks, those who have been on their drug of choice for quite a while. They stopped some cold turkey, all of them have stopped for a significant amount of time. I do not define significant (nor shall you) be it 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, or more. What amazes me is their youth, energy and courage to recognize a problem and start to address it. I mean this in many ways, in terms of GLS the problem is some form of addiction. In terms of life outside of GLS, the problem is the nuances of life. I struggle to get that energy and courage (youth is no longer in my grasp!). I applaud the Warriors I have met at GLS keep on fighting!

Unfortunately you can't please everyone. We receive referrals from all areas of the criminal justice system as well as people convicted of DUI. Most of these people though in need of treatment do not necessarily agree with that assessment. They resent the fact that they were referred into treatment to begin with and when a diagnosis contradicts their denial it is an up hill battle. Our program provides education about addiction and attempts to show the individual the negative effects their relationship with a substance has had on their life. We also offer alternative choices they can make in their lives instead of continuing in the insidious cycle of addiction. If you can take an honest inventory of the effect a substance had had on your life and are motivated to change. Guided Life can help you. Those looking for short cuts or just showing up to comply may get exactly what they put in. Please note I rated us 3 stars for neutrality.

Guided Life really changed my life and made me feel as if I was really family. Counselor Bill the head counselor is the reason I am clean to this day. the speculation that Guided Life isn t a family atomosphere is so wrong and the view of that was most certainly constructed by people who haven t bought in to what Guided life is hoping to achieve. without GLS I wouldn t be where i am and honestly don t feel 5 stars is enough to give to this amazing establishment. Elieen out did herself!!

GLS doesn't even deserve 1 star. If you are thinking of going here for any of their services, don't go there. They are the worst provider of rehab services in NJ. All they do is take your money & don't do a thing. In fact, their main counselor, Bill Henrichs, will lie & cheat just to get you in their program, which will last 16 weeks. They will bleed of you thousands of $$$ and you won't be better off then than you are today. Please, Please, Please, avoid this place like the plague.
