About GenPsych PC

GenPsych is accredited by The Joint Commission and is located in Drick, New Jersey. They provide services to children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with mental health and substance abuse disorders. The level of care available here is partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP).

They incorporate holistic therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI) that will provide you tools you can use in your ongoing journey of healing. Medicaid and Medicare insurance is accepted and they offer credit/debit card payments.

To better assist you in treatment a comprehensive assessment will be completed so you can get the care you need. After an evaluation, an individualized treatment plan will be created, which can include art and music therapy. This gives you a better understanding of treatment and what’s required on your end to be successful and move forward. This can help you stay motivated and engaged in treatment for the desired outcome.

Cognitive behavioral therapy encourages you to alter old unhealthy behaviors and ways of thinking that can ultimately improve your mental and emotional wellbeing. This form of therapy helps build self esteem, utilize self help strategies, improve relationships with others, and can help with navigating through grief and loss.

Motivational interviewing focuses primarily on yourself and similar to CBT to transition harmful habits by motivating and encouraging yourself to come up with a different approach and being open to change. During the process the flow of answering questions without judgment and helping you identify ways you can alter the outcomes into positive ones. This helps give more clarity for the circumstances to treatment and recovery by understanding change is a goal but also an action you put in effort and work towards.

Accepted Insurance

GenPsych PC works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Partial Care Program is a full-day, well-structured program that includes 5 ½ hours of clinical treatment, including group therapy, individual therapy, and psychiatry. In addition to the clinical hours, adolescents also attend 2 hours of school instruction daily by State Board Certified teachers. Partial Care runs Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients often enter inpatient rehab following detox, but they may also enroll during early recovery or at an increased risk of relapse. Inpatient rehabs provide housing, meals, and intensive clinical supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery in a highly structured and supportive environment. Clients typically receive multiple individual, group, and/or family therapy sessions weekly. Many programs also offer extensive addiction education and recovery-focused life skills training. Integrative inpatient rehabs provide holistic therapies as well.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). Intensive Outpatient Program is a specially designed after-school program that runs for 3 hours, 3 days a week from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. This track does not include school instruction.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients in a rehab aftercare program have typically completed detox and intensive inpatient and are medically stable. These programs are designed to address addiction recovery as a life-long process. Outpatient counseling and recovery education are typically categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive support after being discharged from formal outpatient treatment. Case managers and recovery teams facilitate clients' access to peer coaching, career counseling, 12 step program induction, and related services.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in New Jersey is more than a confrontational conversation. This organized effort is specific and goal-oriented. During the intervention, family members share specific examples of how the person's addiction has impacted their lives and spell out what they will do if the individual does not get treatment. The intervention also presents a clear treatment plan, which typically involves input from intervention services.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term, intensive outpatient option designed for those with moderate to severe addictions who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment is often fully covered by insurance and provides structured programming (i.e. individual and group therapy). A typical partial hospitalization program can meet 3-5 days a week for a minimum of 20 hours, offering intensive treatment during the day while allowing you to return home after. PHP treatment duration can vary based on your progress but averages 90 days.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
The GenPsych Ambulatory Detox Program is an outpatient model for individuals requiring detoxification from drugs and alcohol. This program is unique in that their clients are not only safely and comfortably detoxed with the assistance of medication, but they are also offered therapeutic programming to learn more about their addiction, as well as relapse prevention skills to help manage and sustain their recovery. Their educated, experienced, and compassionate staff provides support and understanding as individuals enter this initial stage of treatment. Their staff also has the knowledge and ability to engage and motivate clients during this difficult and delicate stage in the journey of their recovery. Their program allows clients to immediately put into practice the skills they learn as clients are able to return to their home environment nightly, which is where they will need to be able to implement their newly learned skills.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

Their Dual Diagnosis/Substance Abuse Programs simultaneously address challenges derived from chemical dependence and those associated with mental health disorders. Many who struggle with addictions and mental health woes feel powerless and trapped, with little hope of regaining control. However, our clients possess reservoirs of strength and resilience that they often do not know exist. These keys to sustained recovery and mental health quality are emphasized in their Substance Abuse Program.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

The core skills of DBT are zen mindfulness-based, teaching clients how to increase awareness by noticing thoughts, feelings, and body sensations, and then strengthening attention back to the present moment. There are programs available to treat both adults and adolescents within a rolling twelve week skills training cycle. GenPsych is unique because they are dedicated to implementing the philosophies and strategies of DBT not only within their fully structured DBT program, but in their Mental Health and Substance programs as well.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Most experts in couples therapy are trained in several modes of treatment. This allows your therapist to draw from various techniques to personalize your therapy for your needs. This may include cognitive, emotional, and behavioral methods, which are all designed to help you strengthen your relationship.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy is more than a simple meal plan during rehab. It's designed to facilitate a faster recovery by giving your body the nutrients it needs to heal. It aids in strengthening your systems and giving you the energy you need for daily functioning and success in other therapies.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

For best results, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) should be combined with other methods to quit smoking. While NRT addresses physical dependence, other quit program elements are necessary to address emotional and mental dependence. Together, these supports can help you successfully quit tobacco for good.

The staff has no accountability. Was assigned a therapist supposed to be seeing weekly, Kristi Brochon, three weeks went by with her not providing therapy. When I asked about a different therapist I was told that the policy is to work it out with your therapist. So during your intensive outpatient therapy you need to be on guard at all times. When I did switch therapists it was never included in the system and Kristi was still listed. Tried speaking with Brooke DePaul in regards to these problems but she stopped responding to emails. Was referred to a Catherine who was supposedly head of all programs. She never got in touch with me except for one phone call attempt she did to my cell while I was in session at GenPsych. My calls were left unanswered. They do not communicate with each other as a staff and play the blame game. The only bright spot is Albert Kwimi, a psychiatrist there who is wonderful. Beware!

i really enjoyed this program it has helped me a lot with my dual diagnosis. everyone from the staff to the clients were a pleasure to be around. the groups are very helpful and informative and i especially liked carla and samail they helped me a lot on my one on ones but some other gems are keith, saumya, jim, the yoga teacher, music mike, kira, all of the interns i really liked priscilla she was so helpful and her groups awesome. to be honest i can t find anything wrong with anyone there everyone was really supportive and i needed that during this tough time i feel i was listened to and heard during my times of weakness and given tools to move forward. i am sad to say goodbye but happy to move forward. i will miss samail and carla so much they were always holding me accountable and helping me with the coping tools to be present in my emotions and not in fight or flight. for thirty years i feel like i ve been in fight or flight and now i have the tools to be able to move forward in a positive way and to help my kids as well. this program is not like any other and it was actually something i looked forward to going to everyday every staff member i liked which is rare but i couldn t find anyone i didn t like and the groups were very interactive i liked how the groups everyone provided feedback i needed the processing groups too they are helpful.thank you for everything genpysch you will be missed ! xoxo

I wouldn t send my worst enemy to this place!! Saw 2 providers for medication in a week and they both dismissed my problems and refused to prescribe me anything. Treated me like I was a drug seeker both times.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We take all reviews seriously, but we don t seem to have a record of the interaction with our teams. Our providers prioritize client health and safety by basing treatment plans on a thorough assessment of each individual s unique condition, medical history, and best practices for care. In some cases, medication may not be the most appropriate course of action, but we always encourage open communication. Please feel free to reach out to us directly at info@genpsych.com if you'd like to further discuss the situation. We strive to provide the best experience, and we re happy to help resolve any issues. Thank you.

At least every other month, this practice makes a mistake and then I have to scramble to correct it. Sometimes more frequently than every other month. I understand everyone makes mistakes, but it matters how you handle them when you do. For a place that is supposed to help with mental health, this establishment certainly does a great job with driving people to the brink.

ABSOLUTELY AVOID. I am a mental health professional writing this, who used this clinic as a consumer of med management services. I met with a provider for medication management services for an initial intake appointment in late June 2024. The provider sent my prescriptions to the pharmacy, which then turned out to be out of network with my insurance. I called the provider's office to request my scripts be sent elsewhere, they THEN told me I had to pay them a copay before they would do that. I told them my insurance is not a copay plan, they still insisted. Desperate for my med refills (I went into withdrawal during this because they refused to send my medications to the correct pharmacy), I paid them $247 out of pocket. When the claim hit my insurance, my insurance paid for it out of my HRA. The company received TWO payments for one visit. I called to clear this up and get a refund, they feigned ignorance and told me they'd look into it before issuing a refund. I never heard back. I have repeatedly been met with unprofessional business practices on GenPsych's part. First, it is unethical to withhold medications for this reason. I had ONE visit, WITH health insurance they had not yet billed. I wasn't a patient with outstanding bills racking up. They cannot collect a "copay" from someone with a deductible plan, before they even know whether or not I've hit my deductible and what my insurance will cover. It's ridiculous. Additionally, I logged in to my payment portal to see they have tried to send a claim to my insurance for a visit with a provider I have NEVER seen or spoken to. This business is committing fraud. I had to file a dispute with my CC company for my refund, and then I filed a report with BBB and was told GenPsych "is either unreachable or appears to be out of business." I don't know how this business operates. On one occasion i made a call to their "main" phone number and the woman who answered sounded as if I had just woken her from a nap. She made no greeting of "GenPsych, this is ___ speaking" or anything. It was incredibly strange and unprofessional. AVOID AVOID AVOID. The Dept of Human Services and Div of Consumer Affairs needs to investigate and shut this down if it hasn't been shut down already.
