About GenPsych PC

GenPsych is accredited by The Joint Commission and is located in Drick, New Jersey. They provide services to children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with mental health and substance abuse disorders. The level of care available here is partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP).

They incorporate holistic therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI) that will provide you tools you can use in your ongoing journey of healing. Medicaid and Medicare insurance is accepted and they offer credit/debit card payments.

To better assist you in treatment a comprehensive assessment will be completed so you can get the care you need. After an evaluation, an individualized treatment plan will be created, which can include art and music therapy. This gives you a better understanding of treatment and what’s required on your end to be successful and move forward. This can help you stay motivated and engaged in treatment for the desired outcome.

Cognitive behavioral therapy encourages you to alter old unhealthy behaviors and ways of thinking that can ultimately improve your mental and emotional wellbeing. This form of therapy helps build self esteem, utilize self help strategies, improve relationships with others, and can help with navigating through grief and loss.

Motivational interviewing focuses primarily on yourself and similar to CBT to transition harmful habits by motivating and encouraging yourself to come up with a different approach and being open to change. During the process the flow of answering questions without judgment and helping you identify ways you can alter the outcomes into positive ones. This helps give more clarity for the circumstances to treatment and recovery by understanding change is a goal but also an action you put in effort and work towards.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Partial Care Program is a full-day, well-structured program that includes 5 ½ hours of clinical treatment, including group therapy, individual therapy, and psychiatry. In addition to the clinical hours, adolescents also attend 2 hours of school instruction daily by State Board Certified teachers. Partial Care runs Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm.

inpatient iconInpatient

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). Intensive Outpatient Program is a specially designed after-school program that runs for 3 hours, 3 days a week from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm. This track does not include school instruction.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients in a rehab aftercare program have typically completed detox and intensive inpatient and are medically stable. These programs are designed to address addiction recovery as a life-long process. Outpatient counseling and recovery education are typically categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive support after being discharged from formal outpatient treatment. Case managers and recovery teams facilitate clients' access to peer coaching, career counseling, 12 step program induction, and related services.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

A drug intervention in New Jersey is more than a confrontational conversation. This organized effort is specific and goal-oriented. During the intervention, family members share specific examples of how the person's addiction has impacted their lives and spell out what they will do if the individual does not get treatment. The intervention also presents a clear treatment plan, which typically involves input from intervention services.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term, intensive outpatient option designed for those with moderate to severe addictions who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment is often fully covered by insurance and provides structured programming (i.e. individual and group therapy). A typical partial hospitalization program can meet 3-5 days a week for a minimum of 20 hours, offering intensive treatment during the day while allowing you to return home after. PHP treatment duration can vary based on your progress but averages 90 days.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

The GenPsych Ambulatory Detox Program is an outpatient model for individuals requiring detoxification from drugs and alcohol. This program is unique in that their clients are not only safely and comfortably detoxed with the assistance of medication, but they are also offered therapeutic programming to learn more about their addiction, as well as relapse prevention skills to help manage and sustain their recovery. Their educated, experienced, and compassionate staff provides support and understanding as individuals enter this initial stage of treatment. Their staff also has the knowledge and ability to engage and motivate clients during this difficult and delicate stage in the journey of their recovery. Their program allows clients to immediately put into practice the skills they learn as clients are able to return to their home environment nightly, which is where they will need to be able to implement their newly learned skills.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Their Dual Diagnosis/Substance Abuse Programs simultaneously address challenges derived from chemical dependence and those associated with mental health disorders. Many who struggle with addictions and mental health woes feel powerless and trapped, with little hope of regaining control. However, our clients possess reservoirs of strength and resilience that they often do not know exist. These keys to sustained recovery and mental health quality are emphasized in their Substance Abuse Program.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

The core skills of DBT are zen mindfulness-based, teaching clients how to increase awareness by noticing thoughts, feelings, and body sensations, and then strengthening attention back to the present moment. There are programs available to treat both adults and adolescents within a rolling twelve week skills training cycle. GenPsych is unique because they are dedicated to implementing the philosophies and strategies of DBT not only within their fully structured DBT program, but in their Mental Health and Substance programs as well.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Most experts in couples therapy are trained in several modes of treatment. This allows your therapist to draw from various techniques to personalize your therapy for your needs. This may include cognitive, emotional, and behavioral methods, which are all designed to help you strengthen your relationship.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

nutritional-therapy iconNutritional Therapy

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

For best results, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) should be combined with other methods to quit smoking. While NRT addresses physical dependence, other quit program elements are necessary to address emotional and mental dependence. Together, these supports can help you successfully quit tobacco for good.

At least every other month, this practice makes a mistake and then I have to scramble to correct it. Sometimes more frequently than every other month. I understand everyone makes mistakes, but it matters how you handle them when you do. For a place that is supposed to help with mental health, this establishment certainly does a great job with driving people to the brink.

ABSOLUTELY AVOID. I am a mental health professional writing this, who used this clinic as a consumer of med management services. I met with a provider for medication management services for an initial intake appointment in late June 2024. The provider sent my prescriptions to the pharmacy, which then turned out to be out of network with my insurance. I called the provider's office to request my scripts be sent elsewhere, they THEN told me I had to pay them a copay before they would do that. I told them my insurance is not a copay plan, they still insisted. Desperate for my med refills (I went into withdrawal during this because they refused to send my medications to the correct pharmacy), I paid them $247 out of pocket. When the claim hit my insurance, my insurance paid for it out of my HRA. The company received TWO payments for one visit. I called to clear this up and get a refund, they feigned ignorance and told me they'd look into it before issuing a refund. I never heard back. I have repeatedly been met with unprofessional business practices on GenPsych's part. First, it is unethical to withhold medications for this reason. I had ONE visit, WITH health insurance they had not yet billed. I wasn't a patient with outstanding bills racking up. They cannot collect a "copay" from someone with a deductible plan, before they even know whether or not I've hit my deductible and what my insurance will cover. It's ridiculous. Additionally, I logged in to my payment portal to see they have tried to send a claim to my insurance for a visit with a provider I have NEVER seen or spoken to. This business is committing fraud. I had to file a dispute with my CC company for my refund, and then I filed a report with BBB and was told GenPsych "is either unreachable or appears to be out of business." I don't know how this business operates. On one occasion i made a call to their "main" phone number and the woman who answered sounded as if I had just woken her from a nap. She made no greeting of "GenPsych, this is ___ speaking" or anything. It was incredibly strange and unprofessional. AVOID AVOID AVOID. The Dept of Human Services and Div of Consumer Affairs needs to investigate and shut this down if it hasn't been shut down already.

I wouldn t recommend. They try to manipulate and play mind games with you. They don t try to build trust. They just try to play head games with already sensitive people.

I was in this program as a highschooler. It was around this time I had gotten back from a mental hospital and was referred to this program. It was years ago that I was here, but the negative memories still linger in my mind. Since I was at a mental hospital for some time, and then had to attend this program, I was missing out on a lot of schoolwork. I expressed this concern to the director of the program and the attitude and the things she said to me rubbed off on me the wrong way. She said stuff like well dead children don t go to school! and there were natural consequences that lead you here. The way she spoke to me made the program seem more like a punishment rather than an opportunity to get help and treatment. There were times where I got so frustrated where I almost recorded some of our individual sessions.

The staff was completely unprofessional, I was a person seeking mental health treatment. When asking for little info about a possible doctor I would be seeing, they refused and told me that I was being inappropriate for asking and that if I wanted to speak or know anything about an acting doctor I would have to pay for 8 weeks of treatment up front. When the woman at admissions was being inappropriate for making decisions she is not qualified to make I asked to speak with the office manager, she refused. When I calmly say I will come by and speak with her or him myself I was told that the police would be called. This went on for 2 days until I decided to make a official complaint at consumer affairs. Also the information I was asking for was a doctors work history which later was easily obtained on the consumer affairs website. They fought with me and refused to give information that was already accessible by the public. They are the ones in need of a mental health evaluation if they believe that is a proper way to run a business with a interested client/patient.

Horrendous place.Amy the prescriber was never available for medication issues or questions.Saw her twice then she was out for 3 weeks. The manager of the Brick facility was scrambling to find coverage.Supposed to meet with prescriber once a week as per GenPsych policy for Partial Hospitalization or whatever they call it.Saw her once on admission and one other time before she went out.I saw one other prescriber after I had to beg and plead, because the meds were causing issues.Thankfully, I found another psychiatrist and got away from GenPsych. The therapies are useless and the entire staff lies and it causes damage to people. Please go elsewhere for care. This place is a hole.

No one WANTS to need their services but if you do this is a wonderful resource! The skills they teach honestly work in day to day life. I don't want to think about where I'd be if I hadn't found GenPysch. Shy people who think group therapy sounds like a nightmare here's a protip you don't personally have to speak during a session and you will gain A LOT. Maybe even the ability to speak in therapy

Illicit drug distribution occurring at this location from patient to patient. A patient approached me and pressured me to take a bag with a small black substance in it which resembles black tar heroin, which he referred to as weed . When brought up to the Brick location program director, Briell, as a potential safety concern that patients may be preying on other patients and distributing highly addictive drugs with malicious intent, no action was taken and i had to remove myself from the program due to fears for my own safety at the hands of this other patient who intended to harm me by giving me highly addictive and dangerous drugs. They are putting other people s treatment at risk by sweeping this under the rug.

This place is NOT THE BEST PLACE FOR HELP AT ALL!! The case manager rather make plans with his coworker that he s sleeping with than help you. Who sits and makes dates while you re in a conference with them trying to get help?? They let the people you re stuck living with steal your stuff. I mean who wants other people socks and underwear. That s just gross!! The house person is sleeping with the house manager so apparently they DON T CARE if you get your stuff or not. They tell you they want to help you, but they DON T!!!! I was almost homeless because of them if I didn t seek help from another place without their help. I got more help in 1 hour from the other place then I did in the 2 weeks I was with GenPsych. They also give you the run around, I had to talk to the same 2 people about 1 problem and each kept saying the other one would do it. I actuality neither had ANY PLANS of helping me out. IF YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONE REALLY WANTS OR NEEDS HELP DO NOT GO HERE!!! THEY CAN GET MORE FROM ANOTHER PLACE!! I FEEL BAD FOR THE PERSON THAT STARTED THIS PROGRAM BECAUSE THEY HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM HERE!! It s a place to live for 2 weeks before getting ACTUAL HELP!!!! Most of the staff should be fired!!!!

We are sorry if you were treated by us and did not have a satisfactory experience. We always try our best to refer clients to other programs that have availability, but it may become extremely difficult with certain kinds of insurance. We want to thank you for your comments and will work to improve our client services.
