I worked for their facility located in NC (Azelia way) for a few months. The boys were always fighting that we were watching. I was ultimately blamed for a fight they had and was let go. I was told I would be turned in and never work with kids again... (I don't know if they really ever "turned me in") The owners expected the house of boys to live off of 500 a month between food and their needs including utilities etc. I am glad I got out when I did.

I stayed at this place for 42 days. Worst days of my life. The staff do not care, are disrespectful and in general was a traumatic experience. I have been diagnosed with PTSD from being here and encourage anyone able, to do what they can to shut this place down. I saw a lot of things there. I once saw a girl smear her own blood on the wall from self harming and the staff didn t even tell us to leave and go to our rooms. Had us sitting right in front of it. Multiple aggressive restraints where other patients complained their arms would be twisted or bent in harmful ways. One staff that stuck with me was Ms. Lulu. Verbally abusive and aggressive, complained about patients telling their therapists the ugly things she said. The only staff I met that was somewhat sympathetic was Mr. Able, he works on pod 300. Nice guy. Besides that the place was also covered in bugs. When I would walk with my therapist to her office she would point out bugs on the ground and warn me to not step on them. I was in the shower at one of them times a bug crawled out the drain and went right past me. I got multiple ant bites from just being inside, I could keep going for so long. Just PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE.

Accepted Insurance

Excalibur Youth Services LLC works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs provide flexibility and accommodation for clients who prefer to remain in their homes and workplaces while in recovery. They also facilitate clients' sustained sobriety for clients stepping down from intensive inpatient care. Clients may engage in day, evening, night, or weekend treatment sessions, which typically involve addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Many outpatient facilities also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) and evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga and massage.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients who have just completed detox, those who are in crisis, and those with a history of relapse often require treatment in an inpatient rehab. These facilities provide high-level supervision, structure, and support, allowing clients to focus on their recovery away from their addiction triggers. Most inpatient treatment programs center upon various forms of psychotherapy, including CBT, DBT, RBT, and motivational interviewing. Clients may also receive recovery-focused life skills training and evidence-based holistic therapies, such as massage.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Withdrawing from addictive substances, like alcohol, benzodiazepines (like Xanax), or opioids, occurs during the detox process. Since this process can have uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects, the mission of a medically assisted detox is to provide an expert medical team to help monitor your health around the clock. They will work to keep you as safe and comfortable as possible, administering necessary medications to alleviate any withdrawal symptoms.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

The stories I have heard from my child that was a patient in venice are absolutely horrid. The only good thing about that place was a therapist called Mrs. Raquel. She no longer works there. My child spent 8 months in the facility, when she got out we thought everything was okay but for 2 months straight she was like a robot. After that 2 months My child began showing signs of PTSD, it's been a few years since then and now she does not trust anyone and can not seek help for the trauma she has experienced, she is still afraid and I do not see things getting any better. This place ruined her trust in the mental health system, and us her parents, our relationship seems to be forever ruined. Please do not send your children here. Please seek help elsewhere.

I was a patient at Venice for 13 months (Nov.2010-Dec.2011). Granted, a handful of the therapists and staff actually cared the majority were only there for a check or to prey on young girls. There were multiple situations with male staff being inappropriate with patients. I was written up and disciplined for going off on one of the male staff (Deon Washington) for continuously making inappropriate comments to me. He d say things like you re so beautiful, the type of things I d do to you if you weren t in here . I was yelled at and told he has women out of here, he ain t worried about you . I have screenshots of comments he d leave on my social media posts once I was released from Venice . There s one staff member that literally brags about having intercourse with the girls there (Octavis Burnside). Staff are verbally and physically abusive there. I ve seen a staff member spit in a patients face during a restraint (P: Johnna Todd S: Brandon McQueen). I ve seen the staff abruptly discharge a patient because a staff member got her pregnant (P: Joanna Simmons). I ve seen a staff member literally break a patient s arm during a restraint (P:Hydeea S:Deon Washington). A few staff members even thought it was funny that they could get away with cursing patients out and verbally abusing them (S: Sasha Cotton). A staff member was even caught on camera having intercourse with a patient (P:Larissa Michelle) All of these things were covered up and kept quiet but if were to reach out to any of the patients, they d confirm. It was horrendous. The food, not fit for a dog. The Short brothers (Marvin Short and brothers) not sure if they still own Excalibur Youth Services but I strongly urge someone, anyone to go undercover to any of their facilities and see for yourself how things are ran and you tell me if you find it safe or suitable for children/adolescents who are in true need of help and healing????
