I personally went here as a patient and i can't begin to tell you how much this program helped me. I've been thinking about writing a review for a while but saw no point. But then I took a look at the reviews and was shocked that a lot were so negative. So since my experience was very recent I'd like to share my story and hope other people will put their child through this program and get them the help they deserve.I was here for 37 days and got discharged back in the end of May. It is now July and I'm doing so much better than before. Going into the program I was terrified. I was so turned against the idea and thought I was helpless. I was gonna be screwed forever. But 3-4 weeks into the program I started to feel genuine happiness and gratitude from this program. I get this experience might not be the same for everyone. But people are also often more similar than we think. The staff here are amazing. They're sweet, welcoming, honest, and strategic. They kept me for just as long as I needed to. They assessed me perfectly. And the food is not a problem to worry about at all, It's all home cooked meals. The cook is welcoming, funny, and very good at what she does. Just like all the other staff. This place was the perfect balance of everything I needed.I often find myself missing it. But I am also very, very happy with where I am now in life. I have a great therapist and I couldn't be more thankful. Of course I still have very difficult moments, but this program shaped me to deal with these is healthy smart ways. With everything I have I really recommend this program. It makes me very sappy how thankful I am.- KH

DMAP Downey gave us our daughter back ... in pretty much the exact same condition that she went in. Their regimented "tough love" approach doesn't work for everyone, but it's the only approach they have. We resorted to a residential program because we were having problems dealing with our daughter at home, but it was clear the 'professionals' were having many of the same problems with her, had no creative solutions, and regarded her as little more than an annoyance. We never spoke with the main therapist; our family sessions were run by the intern (who had little experience and all of the personality and assertiveness of a limp dishrag; she was in over her head); the psychiatrist was a floater who serves multiple DMAP locations.Outside of weekly family visits, our ability to contact our daughter was spotty at best. Calling in to the facility, following their directions, we always got an answering machine. Our daughter's ability to call out was often restricted as a punishment -- as was her ability to receive mail from us; other patients got their mail while hers was held back, leading her to believe that we'd forgotten about her. They discharged her a week ahead of schedule, calling us the night before to tell us we needed to come get her the next day. Nobody helped us plan for our daughter's return to our household (other than platitudes like "it'll get harder before it gets easier"), and she got no closure and none of the 'graduation' rituals the other girls got -- just a surprise 'your parents are here' with her belongings shoved into a trash bag.We spent $13,000 for care at the Downey DMAP after our insurance coverage ended, thinking that it was having a positive effect; in retrospect, we'd have been better off lighting it on fire, because at least it would have kept us warm.(And yes, in the facility pictures there's a pool, but it was always "too cold" to use and could've done with a long session with a leaf skimmer.)

WORSE THAN THE ALCATRAZ. Recently I was discharged due to the significant growth of patients. This place smells of mildew and the staff is very mocking and rude.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Honestly I don't even know where to start but this program was amazing. I 10 out of 10 recommend. The staff there is so so nice. They have really helped me through the things I was struggling with. The food was bussin and the bedrooms were so nice. The house is amazing. I was able to still continue to do the things I loved and I learned some more about myself. I crocheted, knitted, played cards, and was able to use a bunch of fidgets daily. The therapy was amazing. The 2 main therapists are so great. Through out this program I have really learned how to cope with my emotions and how to deal with family conflict. This program includes family therapy as well and its so beneficial. The last thing I have to say is Bri, Jen, Stephanie, Denia, Rubi, MaryJane, Emma, Amy and Princess raise! If you're reading this drive home safe, eat dinner well, sleep well, wake up well, next day well, next week well, whole life well.

I'm unsure who rated the place with 1 star but so far from what I saw it was fantastic. Once my daughter is finished I will personally update this rating. The inpatient program is in a subdivision that was nice and cute. The house was clean and and the therapist was very kind along with wherever did the intake paperwork (who called me and had me do a lot of the paperwork before I was there which is fantastic since that part takes hours). There is a pool and 3 rooms so 6 girls can stay at a time. They have a chef, a nutritionist, therapist, psychiatrist and I'm sure other people. The bathrooms were clean and nice, the staff were friendly. It's never easy having your child stay anywhere, much less being at a impatient facility (it's a house so is not like a hospital). It's hard to say goodbye, especially for us because we live out of state and can't commute the entire time she's there so I'm sure my daughter who is 17 will be unhappy about. We have made it to day 1 and on day 3 (72 hours) we can finally have contact. So far, so good. I'm hoping for fantastic results. I do know I signed papers for equine therapy along with several other trauma therapies which is why we send her out of state. If anything changes I will update my review but so far so good.*still unsure why someone would rate this place with 1 star and not leave a comment or a name, I take that as it being a child who did not want to be there*
