Crestwyn Behavioral Health Hospital TN 38125

About Crestwyn Behavioral Health Hospital

Memphis, Tennessee, is known for blues and Elvis, but it’s also the home of Crestwyn Behavioral Health Hospital. The hospital offers inpatient and outpatient mental health and addiction treatment for adults. Treatment includes dual diagnosis, where someone has both a mental health disorder and substance use issues. There’s also a specific program for seniors. Paying for care is simple because the hospital accepts Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and multiple private insurance plans.

Inpatient treatment at Crestwyn may include medically monitored detox, after which clients shift to individual, group, and family therapy to address the causes of substance use and mental health concerns. The hospital also provides mental health medication if needed. Group sessions may focus on the 12 step methods, healthy relationships, goal setting, and other recovery skills.

Crestwyn also has a partial hospitalization program (PHP) which meets from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday for up to four weeks. There is also an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that meets three days a week, three hours per session, for up to four weeks. Either of these can be a good transition from inpatient care into independent living.

Reviews are mixed, so be sure to look them over before making a final decision about treatment at Crestwyn.

Crestwyn is A great facility! I am a Peer Recovery Specialist here at UT Addiction Medicine. When I need to refer one of our patients to a facility for detox, Treatment Crestwyn is top notch with their patient centered care! I can always count on Cassandra Clemons and Pretoria Griffin to immediately take the call, expedite the process and get them into detox in a timely manner. They make sure they follow up to refer them back to UT Addiction Medicine to continue their outpatient care. We love and appreciate our cooperative relationship with Crestwyn!

I would give 0 stars if I could. I was forced in here involuntary for reasons I still don t understand because I was never suicidal. I was told I d be put on a 72 hour hold, I was there for 6 days. Most people are there for a minimum of 7-10 days and they love to give you the run around about discharge. They ll promise you a release date and then when you get there, they ll tell you they never planned to release you that day. The food is awful, it s always greasy and nauseating. They just sit you in front of the tv all day long and you get two 45 minute long therapy groups per day. You should not expect to ever meet with an individual therapist. When I was finally discharged, they lost all my medication (including a full bottle of adderall that I suspect was stolen by their staff) and sent me home with a bag of somebody else s meds. When I was there, a staff member threatened to hit a patient for asking for pain meds. I was on the quiet unit where allegedly people are better behaved and I still had a girl scream and yell and me every day, she even threatened to hit me in front of the a nurse and the nurse did nothing about it. One of the patients had repeated seizures during her time there & staff treated her like she was faking and only called an ambulance after she seized four times in one day. I cannot express enough how much this place does not help. Ignore all good reviews, this place is HORRIBLE.

Location

Accepted Insurance

Crestwyn Behavioral Health Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient rehabs enable clients to receive care without leaving their home, workplace, and community. Clients typically receive intensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Many programs promote clients' long-term sobriety through recovery-focused life skills training and ancillary services, such as peer coaching. Medication assisted treatment (MAT), including medication induction and maintenance, are common in outpatient care. Most facilities offer multiple levels of care to accommodate clients' evolving needs, including intensive outpatient (IOP) and standard outpatient programming.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs are designed principally for clients who require intensive supervision and support, including clients who have just completed detox, clients in early recovery, and clients at an elevated risk of relapse. Inpatient treatment helps clients stabilize following detox and prepares them to step-down into outpatient and/or community-based care. Clients reside at the facility for the duration of their program and engage in extensive addiction counseling and education. Many programs also offer evidence-based complementary therapies.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program typically have abstained from drugs or alcohol for a period of weeks or months and have completed high-level (often inpatient) treatment. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to support clients in maintaining their sobriety as they re-engage with their ordinary lives at home, in the workplace, and in the community. Services are highly individualized and evolve with clients' changing needs, but generally include peer coaching and relapse prevention.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
To keep you safe and comfortable during the detoxification process, a medically assisted detox provides you with a team of medical professionals who can provide the necessary medications to treat any potential withdrawal symptoms. Suddenly stopping chronic abuse of substances like alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opioids can have uncomfortable and even dangerous side effects.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Safe detox requires 24-hour clinical care in Tennessee. This is due to the health risks that are involved during withdrawal. As the brain reacts to the absence of the drug, severe symptoms can occur, depending on the type of drug used. For instance, alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal may result in seizures. Fortunately, supervised care in a clinical setting can provide the necessary treatment to avoid health risks and allow you to complete detox safely.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills training teaches you how to cope with challenging situations in non destructive ways. This crucial piece of drug rehab in Tennessee gives you tools for decision making, relationship building, and self care.

This hospital has always been there when I have a referral that needs acute care. They always Go above and beyond to help people and they make it happen quickly. The social workers also take the time to help place their patients in long term treatment and follow up care. Thank you all for what you do to save the lives of people that are struggling with mental health and substance-abuse issues.

If zero stars was a option it would definitely be my rating. The staff don't inform you on what's going on with your family at all. Please don't allow your loved ones to go here. I been with my loved one for 10 years plus and I can't even be sure to get any information about them. We are facing eviction, lights off and more. Nobody answers the phone and when you know your family is there they are still not of any help. How do you let a patient come in knowingly something is going on NOT GIVE FAMILY INFORMATION FOR DETAILS,FAMILY JUST STUCK IN A BUILDING NOT ONE NURSE ON ANYONE REACHES OUT. Common SENSE SOMEONE SENT THEM THERE TO GET HELP NOT HOSTAGE AWAY FROM FAMILY COMPLETELY.YOU LEAVE MESSAGE AFTER MESSAGE. STAFF ARE INCONSIDERATE OF FAMILY CONCERNS. WE ABOUT TO LOSE ALL...PLEASE DONT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES ANYWHERE BUT THERE. STAFF AT FRONT DESK JUST STAND AND STARE WHILE FAMILIES ARE FACING HARD TIMES....PATIENT ADVOCATES ARE WORTHLESS HERE. MY NEXT STEP IS TO GET A ATTORNEY AND NEWS CHANNEL 3 IN THERE.... IM SICK MY SELF WITH HEALTH FAILING EVEN MORE RAPIDLY DEALING WITH TRYING TO CHECK ON MY FIANCE. RUNNING UP A CHECK IS WHAT THEY DO. ADVOCATE NEVER RESPONDS TO CALLS AND ALWAYS AWAY.

I started working here at the beginning of the year. It's obvious that many people care about their work and want to help patients reach their maximum potential. As many other healthcare facilities, Covid left a lasting impact on healthcare workers. It's clear that leadership is working very hard to change that narrative and maintain a positive work environment for all employees.

Keep anyone you care about away from this facility. They have zero consistency in applying any kind of company or facility based policies. They appear horribly understaffed. Of the numerous times that I tried call or getting in contact with specific people on a care team, no one I spoke to even know who filled the positions. They do not return phone calls. They did not provide a care plan at the time of release. They did not keep in touch with me at all about progress of care or condition. Medications and prescriptions were neglected and forgotten. The food is anything but healthy. They slap patients in the face with a bill just before being discharged even though they know and admit that the patient is usually not the financially responsible person in the household. Zero consideration of, I don't know, maybe mailing the bill later once they've been released. There is no financial disclosure or discussion up until the point at which someone is about to get discharged. There is no consistent communication between the staff supposedly providing treatment as a team. They appear to take in as many bodies as they can possibly hold while not doing anything to improve the conditions or consider that they probably don't have the staff to care for them appropriately. The conditions in the facility are horrible and a significant portion of the staff will criticize, insult, demean, and make the patients feel worthless. I understand that these facilities are meant to get people out of a state of crisis and are not really expected to do very much to treat them when someone is committed, voluntary or otherwise, but the manner in which this place is operated places the patients in its care at great risk for further harm whether that be physical, emotional, mental, or all of the above.**Edit** some of you may have noticed Crestwyn's sorry attempt at getting more information surrounding my review above. I'll add that I gave them a way to contact me and they've failed to do so. I called their patient advocant and have left messages and they're not returning calls. Make no mistake. They have absolutely zero intent in rectifying anything at their facility, correcting any problems, or making it an environment that is even remotely positive for their patients in any way, shape, or form. Their negligence and lack of care and compassion abounds.

I had a really positive experience at this hospital. The staff was kind and hardworking. Ro, on the night shift was the best ever. She connected with all of the patients and her smile and laugh were contagious. She is amazing. The therapist that handled my group was George and he is fantastic and very knowledgeable on many subjects. I left the hospital in a much better frame of mind. Thank you Crestwyn!

My female relative was here approximately 2 weeks. As a healthcare professional myself,I would've felt more secure had me/family been contacted upon her admission. My relative later complained about being threatened via another patient. The Charge Nurse ("Jan")denied any knowledge(after 2 days). I spoke with The D.O.N.about the allegations & she investigated & provided me with an update. I also notified "Nancy",CEO. My relative was later discharged (about 0900)without family being notified. As a healthcare professional myself,we set up Transportation 24 hours ahead (& notify patients' family for liability & comfort). "Someone/Facility "dropped the ball" on both of those. Tiffany,Admissions was great with "The Recovery" that coordinated transportation & Communication. My relative arrived back home/another city about 12 midnight. Please be involved, proactive, take notes & names ,when your vulnerable relatives are admitted(to ANY facility).
