About COMCARE – Community Crisis Center

COMCARE Community Crisis Center Wichita offers 24/7 suicide prevention and emergency mental health assistance in Wichita, Kansas. Adults, youth, and families can contact their hotline or visit them onsite for immediate intervention. They also refer clients to community resources and drug rehab, depending on their situation.

Their clinical staff assists clients by creating a crisis treatment plan and referring them to community resources. A master’s level therapist and case manager provide emergency assessments through their mobile crisis unit.

They also have a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program comprised of mental health professionals, law enforcement, advocates, and people with mental health illness and addiction. This program uses a first responder model to connect people struggling with substance use disorder (SUD) or mental health to medical treatment instead of incarceration.

COMCARE Community Crisis Center Wichita accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance to cover some treatment costs. They may work with Amerigroup, Aetna, Beacon, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, and BlueCross BlueShield. Insurance coverage varies, especially with out of network benefits. Always verify your insurance with your provider.

Accepted Insurance

COMCARE – Community Crisis Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient Rehab
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Physical withdrawal can be uncomfortable, and in severe cases, it can even be dangerous. In an inpatient environment, a medically assisted detox is performed by a team of licensed medical professionals who monitor your vitals, provide medications when necessary, and ensure your safety, health, and comfort during this process. Medical detox is usually the very first step in the recovery process.

Programs

Adult program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Substance abuse treatment typically includes group therapy where you can learn essential coping skills that help you navigate challenges within the community and relapse prevention strategies that support sustainable recovery. Group therapy offers you a platform to share your stories with your peers who understand the journey you are on.

Individual therapy for drug and alcohol addiction treatment provides you with targeted support. Your therapist is able to address the unique aspects and triggers of your addiction so you can develop healthy coping strategies and set achievable goals. These are essential components of a successful journey to recovery.

In family therapy, experienced therapists help family members navigate the challenges of addiction by fostering open lines of communication and mutual support. This approach strengthens the family unit and improves the effectiveness of the recovery process.

I took my friend in crisis here & I ended up leaving also in crisis. Win-Win.They did an amazing job at validating feelings of "beings stupid or dramatic" by using sentences repeatedly like "I don't even understand why youre here right now"Another talent they have is invalidating your feelings & fears. If you're looking for a place that will make suicide sound more appealing to you, highly recommend this place. If you think you've hit rock bottle, come here & they'll kick you down even farther to show you, you haven't even got to the bottom yet. The only thing I see could use improvement was, I wish it was stated at the very beginning that "it doesn't matter if we trust them or not" I do wish that was more clear at the very start.

There is nothing I wouldn't do to get this place shut down so they stop lying and hurting people. When I came here, I was in the middle of a crisis and actively suicidal. Before I even entered the door, I asked about payment over the intercom outside. The woman at the desk told me that there was a sliding scale fee, and that my insurance was "really good insurance" that would "cover most of the visit". Both of these things were lies. I was sent a $300 bill that I have no way of affording. I am homeless. I am in the middle of a mental health crisis that NOBODY, including these liars, will take seriously. And they knew these things about me, they just didn't care. These people DO NOT care about you or your mental health. Everything they will tell you is a lie. Do not trust or believe anything they say. They do not care about you, all they care about is making as much money off you as possible as quickly as they can. I have sent calls and emails trying to get an explanation as to what is going on, but every person I talk to has a different story. None of them will directly answer any of my questions, they actively avoid giving any clear or distinct answers just to cover their tracks. These people are horrible, horrible people. Do not come here if you can avoid it. Find someone to talk to who has things like morals.

These folks have been so nice to me. Made me feel very welcome! I'm leaving now way before the 23 hours. I was told if I needed help or anything to call them & I can come back. I'm grateful to have these folks as a resource in a crisis situation! Thank you to Pam!! This chic is so cool. Stephanie gave me advise that I desperately needed about teenagers & my situation with my daughter. Grateful!

Totally amazing, the degree of incompetence of the workers has to be on a whole new level! No insurance, good luck getting seen. Even though I was in total crisis, the person on phone tried their best to deter from coming in. Hey it worked, sorry that I interrupted your day. Now I know not to call com-care . Exactly why is com-care around?

Woman I spoke with on the phone were very judgmental and showed little to no empathy. Very disappointing.
