About Chestnut Health Systems

Chestnut Health Systems is a health service located in Maryville, Illinois. They offer drug and alcohol rehab services. They treat people for substance use disorder. They also treat people who suffer from addiction issues and mental health conditions simultaneously.

They offer inpatient and outpatient treatment. They have separate programs for adults and adolescents. In addition to treating people with substance issues, they also treat those with gambling addiction. Treatment begins with a telephone assessment to determine the level of care you need. Everyone in their treatment programs will receive both group and individual therapy.

The special thing about this place is the fact that they have been around for over 20 years. This longevity typically indicates a company is stable and reliable.

Adolescents are treated on an outpatient basis. They will come in once or twice a week for therapy. The treatment is centered on problems specific to young people. They offer family sessions where kids can discuss their addiction with their loved ones with a therapist present.

Adults who have drugs in their system will begin treatment with a stay in their detox center. You will be monitored 24 hours a day. If you need prescription medication to handle the discomfort of detox, they can provide it for you.

Once you have stabilized you can enter their residential treatment program. You’ll have group therapy all day and several individual sessions throughout the week. If you do not need full time care, you can participate in intensive outpatient treatment and come in several times a week. They also have a standard outpatient program that offers treatment once a week.

Do not go to Chestnut if you need a regular health doctor I know most people would already know that s a given, but I did not. I had the absolute worst experience with Dr. short at the Maryville location. The entire time she made me feel absolutely stupid and didn t listen to a single thing I had to say. Not only did she not address my concerns but I have never experienced such terrible communication with a doctors office in my life. The very next day after seeing her only one time, she prescribed me a medication that I was prescribed before when I was a bit younger that did not work well with me and was not the answers to my solution. She would ve known that if she talked to me about prescribing an entire medication before actually prescribing it, but I had to find out by Walgreens. After that, the very next day she had some bloodwork done, not the bloodwork I requested for and denied me to even have my blood tested in the way that I requested even though my concern is something that runs in my family and I need to check for the markers Because I was told by previous doctors that I have signs pointing towards something I should get checked for. Not only did she deny me to get tested for it, but she pretty much laughed at me and told me that all I should do is just change my diet and work out . That s another thing she would ve never said if she knew anything about me, I am a personal trainer who watches what I eat every single day of my life Telling me to lose weight and go on a low-fat diet when I already have an amazing meal plan was just insane. This doctor did not seem educated one bit, but also just made me feel dumb when SHE What is the one not even listening to the insight I had about my own body and what goes on and who wants that from a doctor. Leslie, I just got a $500 bill in the mail With the incorrect insurance listed telling me that my insurance was denied when they didn t even have my insurance on file they put some random insurance on file. When they had this bloodwork done, Not even the bloodwork I requested but the most basic bloodwork panel test done that I ve done 1 million times before, they told me my insurance would cover it so to be sent a $500 denial due date Invoice in the mail was my last straw The blood workplace was really nice and fixed the insurance and said that it was pulling from an insurance that wasn t accepted that wasn t even my insurance. it s really not good for a doctors office to be that unorganized, it just goes to prove all of the rest of the concerns I was having about this facility and the fact that she treated me completely terrible and didn t communicate with me at all. One more sidenote when I calledchestnut to ask about that random prescription they prescribed me nurse picked up and when I told her I m not taking this medication it s not one that works with me and it s not accurate for me, I ve tried it before and it was not the answers and I ve been tested for what you guys are trying to test me for and it came up negative, so why can t you guys just listen to me and give me the peace of mind and test me for what I actually want to be tested for the nurse just kept talking over me. It would not even let me speak and told me that I need to just listen to the doctor and work out more and eat a better diet.. That s the last Thing I need to be worried About, but I guess she would ve known that if she actually listened to me when I said I m a personal trainer who works out every day following a very personalized healthy meal plan. I immediately went to a different doctor at Anderson and have had nothing but an amazing experience. It s not hard to have a good experience with a doctor, just simply don t laugh at your clients and make them feel dumb Maybe you ll find more answers if you actually communicate better with your. I just can t express how disappointed I was with my experience and I simply just want to help guide the next person that is lost, looking for a new healthcare provider

JUST DO IT!!This facility was absolutely wonderful. Everything was nice and clean. Well maintained and all the amenities, included. It was never a problem to use the laundry room. Wash whatever needed to be washed you could take a shower whenever you felt necessary. Food and snacks galore. By the way, the food was pretty good, but they had movies games. You go to the gym every morning. Just everything you need to get in practice of living a healthy lifeAnd the staff is just amazing. If you have an open mind an open heart and you are ready and willing to change your life. These are the people that will help you do it it is not just a job to them them. They have lived it or lived with it in one fashion or another and they understand. they have compassion and empathy and they really want to see you succeed. The resources they have access to are amazing They will help you find a safe place to go if necessary after your treatment. there's just so much they will help you with but let me make it clear they will help you. They will not do it for you. You will have to do the leg work but they will help you. If it's out there they will help you or find someone who will help you get what you need. Location

Accepted Insurance

Chestnut Health Systems works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. Outpatient services are provided on an individual and/or group basis each week at one of their facilities in Belleville, Bloomington, Joliet or Maryville. Each individual is recommended to attend one to six hours of individual or group counseling each week while still living at home, attending school, and sharing in family activities. The assessment and individual needs will determine the length of treatment. Counseling groups will focus on various topics including communication/decision making skills, drug education, leisure education, life skills, stress management, self esteem and relapse prevention. Each young person and their families are encouraged to attend family programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. Inpatient services are designed for youth who need more clinical services than their outpatient program can provide. Youth participating in inpatient treatment live at their facility in Maryville and participate in day and evening treatment and recovery support activities. The inpatient program is an opportunity for a young person to focus on his or her recovery in a gender specific and structured daily environment.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Instensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. Youth participating in Intensive Outpatient (IOP) receive individual and group counseling on a weekly basis in one of their facilities in Illinois including Belleville, Bloomington, and Maryville. A young person typically is advised to attend from six to 13 hours of individual or group counseling each week while still living at home, attending school, and sharing in family activities. The length of treatment is determined by the assessment, the individual’s needs, and how much support each person needs. IOP can serve as step down care after inpatient treatment. It can also serve as a step up program if outpatient services are not appropriate. Each counseling group may help the young person work on communication/decision making skills, drug education, leisure education, life skills, stress management, self esteem and relapse prevention. Each individual and their families are encouraged to participate in family programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs provide a full continuum of care for clients who are exiting inpatient treatment. Though outpatient care is often considered an element of drug rehab aftercare, services typically continue for the remainder of the clients' life and long after formal treatment is completed. Clients work with their case managers and care team to formulate a customized portfolio of medical, mental health, and social service resources designed to evolve as the client's needs change.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
Addiction treatment often begins with 24-hour clinical care in Illinois. This supervised setting is the best environment for detox.where medical staff can provide 24/7 supervision and responsive care as your body is cleansed of addictive substances. Doctors may prescribe antagonist and partial agonist drugs to counteract the effects of drugs or alcohol, or they may slowly taper down dosages of substances to end physical dependence on the drug.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one’s body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. Chestnut Health Systems provides 24 hour short term supervised care for persons aged 18 years and older experiencing a withdrawal from most substances that do not require acute hospitalization. Admission to the Detox unit is voluntary. They accept only those individuals who choose to come to the unit. The facility is not prepared to work with persons who are experiencing serious medical problems or complications. The unit is staffed with nurses and behavioral technicians but it is not a hospital.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing in Illinois is person centered and collaborative. This method allows the therapist to come alongside the client to address the issue of ambivalence toward change. By listening and reflecting, the therapist helps the client see the need for change and commit to making changes.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

During couples therapy in Illinois, you may work on a variety of relationship challenges. Couples therapy can address topics such as finances, children, health, addiction, intimacy, external stressors, and family relationships. You'll develop tools to address these types of challenges in healthy ways.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. Chestnut Health Systems strongly encourages families to participate in their loved one’s treatment experience. Substance usage affects the entire family and may create breakdowns in communication and trust. It is their belief that in order for a young person or adult to be successful in overcoming their alcohol or drug problem, the family needs to understand addiction, learn the importance of the family support in recovery and make adjustments in their own behavior. Family members also need support during the treatment process.

Once again it has happened. When you think you re calling the office you re not your calling a call center. They ask what your appointment is for? I said well with all due respect that s my business and she hung up on me. Really? I called back and same woman answered and I said that it wasn t any of her business what my problem is I need to change my appointment. She then immediately patched me into Maryville office. So she didn t need to know what my problem was after all.

D.j Clark a youth counselor was giving my 14 year old a vape to smoke daily and who knows how many other peoples children. Tried calling numerous times 6 to be exact and was always told the supervisor would be in touch and never did I highly recommend looking in to other facilities before sending your child here they very well could leave with more things they are addicted to than they went with.

Overall a great system. I went in there with a raging addiction and I didn t want to get clean I just wanted to go home. Though I didn t have the desire to get clean it didn t help me at the time. But when the moment came that I realized a change in lifestyle was mandatory. I did change. And I think about my time spent there all the time. The skills I picked up, the relationships I cultivated. Overall if you have the desire, the aptitude, and the drive to make a change. This place is a helpful start. You got this!-thank you Bob, Terri, Cheryl, DJ, Big Time, and the rest of the staff
