About Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Health

Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Health is a treatment center in Chesapeake, Virginia that can help with a wide array of behavioral health issues. They offer services for drug and alcohol addiction recovery as well as mental health challenges like anxiety and depression. They aim to be a resource for the community that is always there to help you through the difficult times that come your way.

Unlike most behavioral health centers this facility is actually operated by the City of Chesapeake so it’s a public resource. Keep in mind that clients do mention a lot of issues that are common in government operated facilities like a lack of proper staff and resources. Still they serve as a place for Chesapeake residents to go for help when they need it most.

Because it’s run by the city this clinic only serves residents of Chesapeake. But they do serve residents of all ages from infants and kids through adults and seniors. Along with the outpatient treatment center I noticed that this clinic has a 24 hour crisis hotline too. This can be a true lifesaver during an addiction or mental health crisis.

6 to 8 years ago this was the place if you had a serious issue. Drug problem. Whatever you know. Now every one's left my doc. Just discharged with no warning talking to. No mail. Phone call. No nothing. I take suboxone. Which saved my life. And its they like judged me. Go to bright view they are very nice. I said I smoke weed. The doc goes OK. That's fine smoke as much as you want. Would you like the number for your cannabis medical card. Then says I will help u do anything that's not illegal. Then immediately gave me some strips. Don't waste your time

Accepted Insurance

Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients participating in a rehab aftercare program receive comprehensive and customized support as they leave high-intensity treatment, reintegrate into their community, and focus on maintaining their sobriety. These programs offer a wide variety of services to align with the client's unique and evolving needs, often including medical, mental health, and social service program referrals. Clients typically develop their drug rehab aftercare plan in conjunction with their case manager and care team.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

If you and your partner are facing challenges, couples therapy in Virginia is designed to help you work through those in a healthy way. Common challenges that couples therapy addresses include conflict resolution, financial disagreements, intimacy challenges, health issues, and substance abuse.

Family therapists work with all members of the family to understand the roles they play in the addiction dynamic. Addressing these patterns is crucial to developing healthier ways to interact and support each other, as well as contributing to a more effective recovery for their loved ones.

Accreditations

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Established in 1992 by congress, SAMHSA's mission is to reduce the impact of substance abuse and mental illness on American's communities.

SAMHSA Listed: Yes

State Licenses are permits issued by government agencies that allow rehab organizations to conduct business legally within a certain geographical area. Typically, the kind of program a rehab facility offers, along with its physical location, determines which licenses are required to operate legally.

If I could give a 0 I would as well. My daughter both, and mother as well actually all went here. Saw the same lady, I don't remember her name now but I wish I did! Anyhow, my kids are 13 n 11, they were at the time 12 and 10. Not saying I had perfect acting kids, but I had MINOR issues that I was trying to nip n the bud that this lady AMPLIFIED times 1000. She had my kids talking back more, repeating things she said as if it was straight from the Bible with as hard as they believed them. They've since then started threatening and have called CPS on me or have had other adults do it with lies (ALL CASES WERE PROVED FALSE AND CLOSED) which led to me having to get my kids further help bc now they recommended it. She diagnosed my kids with things and told them 'they definitely had it, which later a psychiatrist proved false. This place literally is an excuse to say chesapeake has 'the help you and your family need'. It's bull. Straight bull. I wish they would either completely shut it down and start over with people from another city, or just shut down in general. My life has been a roller coster ride for going on 2 years bc of something I stopped after 6 months bc I realized my kids weren't getting 'help', they were being enabled to do more than what they were going for...

Same day access did not mean same day access-appointment they offered me was taken by the time I ended intake. Two hours driving (half an hour each way for two people) wasted. They are often not taking new clients.

I would give zero stars if that was a choice. We applied for services in Feb 2023. We have had no follow-up and multiple phone calls and emails have been ignored. I filed a complaint with the Director and still nothing. We did however receive a bill for the intake appointment. I have reached out to multiple organizations for assistance for my cousin that is learning disabled and they all give me the same answer. "Unfortunately you have to use Chesapeake Integrated Behavioral Health to apply for a Medicaid Waiver". I don't believe the people there don't care. I like to think they are simply under staffed. It's frustrating to see the reviews and know that NOTHING has been done to improve their services or efficiency.

Destroyer of families. This place should be shut down nobody s interested in doing their job. Whoever s in charge has let the place become completely overrun by people that want to work from home or not work at all. If someone has THE most severe mental health problem that you can have, and a developmental disability and is UN medicated thanks to CIBH I am not quite sure how that person is supposed to be able to make all of their own decisions, schedule appointments etc. especially when they can t even do things like remember to brush their teeth, take a shower, change their clothes, wash their clothes, etc.. like I said, destroyer of families, if you have any other options, run as fast as you can from this place.

My children and I absolutely adore everyone at CIBH! From the security guards, to front desk, to therapists and medication providers, everyone always greets us with a big smile and are incredibly understanding. I've had to cancel appointments at the last minute and they not only rescheduled right away, but showed genuine concern and kindness to our situation. With the therapists, each of my children see different therapists and it's like they were hand picked for my kids. They instantly clicked and my kids opened up so quickly. The therapists seemed to know right away which approach worked for them. The medication providers and nurses are equally amazing. They play around with my daughter, keep her involved in her care, and celebrate all of her victories with her. My daughter lost far too much weight due to her severe anxiety, and once we got the right meds and she started gaining, her med team had her beaming with pride with how much they praised her. I will always recommend CIBH and their overly amazing care team!
