About Center for Discovery Temecula

CFD’s partial hospitalization program includes services from dietitians, psychiatrists, and therapists and typically provides care five or six days a week for six to seven hours per day. Clients requiring higher-intensity addiction treatment may be referred to an inpatient alcohol or drug rehab specializing in dual diagnosis care.

IOP services at CFD are usually offered to clients who have been through residential treatment (which is available at other CFD facilities) and include evidence-based therapies like group and individual therapy and dietitian referrals. Programming is also offered on weekends and evenings for maximum flexibility.

Programming includes access to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure & response prevention (ERP), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Additionally, patients will have the opportunity to access yoga and CFD’s specialty program Path to Peace, which specializes in the treatment of Binge Eating Disorder (BED).

Alumni support and community education are part of CFD’s aftercare program, which also includes trauma-informed nutrition care and community healing.

CFD is an in-network provider for most major insurance companies, including carriers like Amerigroup, Bright Health, Kaiser Permanente, and Humana. Check with your individual insurance provider for drug rehab benefits and potential out of network benefits and costs.

My daughter started the intensive outpatient program (IOP) in March this year. From the very beginning, it was pushed on both of us to enroll in the more expensive partial hospitalization program, which was not recommended by her healthcare provider. They also advertised group family sessions, but we had attended just one the first week before we were told that they would not be continued until further notice. While my daughter enjoyed her time there, the therapy itself seemed to largely consist of watching movies and arts and crafts. She was going 5 days/wk and I was told this would decrease as her treatment went on and that the program would last anywhere from 6-8 weeks. Eight weeks later, she was still going 5-days a week with no end in sight. It was about this time that I discovered that I was erroneously charged $1,350 in copays that they said I was required to pay in full at the beginning of the program. As it turned out, my insurance covered all treatment 100% and I wasn't responsible for any copay. I contacted Discovery and they told me that they could not process a refund until all claims were processed, meaning at the end of my daughter's treatment. I unenrolled my daughter shortly thereafter in June (which was another ordeal in and of itself), and the last claim was processed in August. I was referred to the corporate office in Irvine, and after several attempts, finally got a hold of a rep who said they submitted the request and it would take 8-10 weeks to process. I waited and still no refund. I contacted them again this month and once again I'm being told that a request was submitted but that it will take a few weeks because they are "busy with meetings." They will not supply any additional information as to why it has not been processed nor will they provide direct phone numbers to their accounting department or an acting supervisor who I can contact. It is also incredibly difficult to reach someone as the line will either disconnect automatically, ring endlessly, or forward you to an unknown voicemail. While the quality of the therapy may be subjective, their business practices and customer service are absolutely terrible. Families who are going through a tough time already do not need this type of added anxiety.

I had to give myself several month away to recover from this place before I could give it a proper review.I will say half the staff there genuinely care and are doing everything they can to help those who enter here for treatment. The other half do not belong working in a human services job. They just don t. They don t have the ability to show empathy or understanding and it showed. I was an adult there, who could leave whenever I wanted. However, I was one of two adults there so I am coming at this review from a different perspective. The rest who were there were adolescents as young as 12. They were forced to be there by family. They had no say and no choice. I was in a lot of treatments with these children, which seemed incredibly odd and non therapeutic, but I went along. I watched these kids do as demanded and give what was expected but some of the staff seemed to not give an ounce with these kids. The way a few of them spoke to these children or outright made threats to send back to residential treatment for no reason other than the staff felt inconvenienced at something was super alarming to me. How can these kids recover when their self esteem is continuously torn down? One of these particular staff members, who was essentially a child themselves, decided to lash out at me one day and I had enough and left. I had to spend several months decompressing from the things I heard and saw there that added to the trauma I already had that caused me to be there in the first place.I found a different program that is much more caring and individualistic than here and after seeing how different it can be, I would strongly discourage any parent from putting their child here. Seek somewhere else because these kids aren t lying when they come home and tell you the staff here isn t acting in a healing or professional manner.

Accepted Insurance

Center for Discovery Temecula works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
