For the most part, staff was kind. However, I had much difficulty with Dr. Khan. He never asked how I was doing and wouldn't let me speak, as he kept talking over me. In addition, he made a serious error with my meds.

Changed my mind about what I wrote previously. I m kind of traumatized from this place. There was another patient whose name began with T who was patronizing. I confided something personal for him and he just judged me. Medications were not filled. Waste of time. Felt like a correctional facility. Also used crisis actors a lot and you think those people would pretend to be friendly. Never going back, would rather continue to be dead.

Please if you love your family member that is having a troubled breakdown, don't send them to this "hospital", it's more like a prison.... Someone needs too look into patient rights in this place, it horrible!Everything is super restrictive. Visitation is 4 days a week M-Th 2-3pm, only with prior approval and if there is enough room. So if there is a busy day, and your social worker didn't put you in early enough, you will be told no you can't visit! When u get there you have to talk through bullet proof plastic with the person @ the front. They make you put your cell phone in a sealed bag. Visitation is in a single room and you are watched the entire time, like these people are in prison. No area to walk around and talk privately. They shuffle the "patients" in lines, like they are children. My child of 20 that was there said the ward is a very bad place. Nurses just live on their phones and ignore basically everything that happens, including people screaming and constant intimidation between different patients. They have metal sheeting on the windows, which you can't see out of. The bathrooms are communal and open, no doors in stall for privacy. The place is run like a prison. Only allowed a free 10 min phone call everyday. There is a payphone always available which you need quarters, not only to pay for the call, but also pay the bully sitting @ the phone all the time.....They have an outside area, but it's not too get fresh air! Outside is only open for short periods, and the nurses had out freaking cigarettes! The area is small, so if you want too see the sun you will sit in a cloud of second hand smoke.... I thought this was illegal in hospitals in NY.Horrible place that made my child's mental state much worse. They have bad anxiety. Not a calming place. Boarder line criminal activity here. Looked up patient rights in NY and it looks like this place is way off. Don't know how they are allowed to stay open, blatant abuse of patients.

Accepted Insurance

Brunswick Hospital Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

The nurses were great in the unit I was in, and that s all that s good about it. Place is a joke. Food is horrible and there isn t enough food. You go hungry. Fights started due to people were hungry. Fights would start and there s no security just the nurses and they can do but so much. There s no help given, they just fill you up with pills. You re just a number there. They don t care if you get help or get better. There are no programs. Doctors are not available social workers are not available when you need them. They don t care. Place is a joke. They are there to charge your insurance but provide you nothing.

In 2014 when I was in high school, this was the only psychiatric hospital with a bed available for me as a minor due to the time of year. It was honestly a traumatizing experience especially as a 14 year old girl being thrown directly into, what I would quite honestly call Juvie, rather than a hospital. Bars on the windows. Restricted phone access, you can only use the phone for a limited time twice a day. They even strip searched me when I got there. I was 14 years old and terrified and already in a bad place mentally. I was there for two weeks and the only part I am grateful for is that one of the nurses taught me how to swallow pills and I was able to finally be put on antidepressants. If you have the choice, please don't send your kids here. I have no clue about the adult inpatient unit, but I wouldn't risk it either. Second time in the hospital I went to South Oaks and it was LEAGUES better in comparison.

The Security Director at BRUNSWICK HOSPITAL has over stayed her welcome. You can tell by the way she talks to people. She has a very condescending way about her.I am not the ONLY person who has complained about the Directors attitude . From emplyoyess to patients. Positions like that are supposed to be be held at a high standard. Be courtesy and professional. This place needs to be more professionally Run.

This place is so unprofessional and rude. When it s time to pick up your family member they lie about pick up times and continuously lie about how long it will take. 15 minutes turns into an hour with no resolve. The receptionist is so nasty. Your family member is already doing through a tough time which in turn effects the family but they show no grace. Horrible
