About Bridgewell Counseling Services

Bridgewell Adult Day Treatment in Lowell, Massachusetts is an accredited non-profit organization that aims to empower those with disabilities and support those struggling with substance abuse. They do this by offering community housing, day programs, outpatient treatment, and other recovery services.

They also offer a Drug Diversion program. This initiative is an outpatient, voluntary treatment program designed for non-violent offenders of all ages and backgrounds. This specialized program involves case management, staff who advocate for their clients, and treatment coordination. I think it’s great that this specialized program exists, as it offers an alternative pathway and support system for those who might otherwise fall through the cracks of America’s justice system.

Some former clients complain of disorganized unprofessional and rude staff and frequent cancellations. With this being the case, I’d encourage potential clients to do more research before committing to care here.

Debra Booth is really unprofessional. This is the worst doctor I had to deal with. She does not care either about her patient. We've been chasing her for a whole month for med refill. She wanted us to book an appointment. We booked the appointment. We went there on time, the receptionist was on the phone, we had to wait until the receptionists finish the call to check us in. We had to wait for almost an hour, when she decided to walk out without any explanation.

OMG. My daughter has been calling since Monday to have her blood work entered in a government database in order to have her perscription filled. She has called 10 times and I have called once. Absolutely no response form Bridgewell or Debra Booth, to get her medication. This is the third time she has had to experience withdrawals. This lack of response is totally not what people experiencing mental illness should have to deal with. Why isn't this office run like a Drs. Office? A person answering the phone sure would be a step up.

Debra Booth should not be a psychiatrist. All the negative reviews are true. You re working with mental health patients, in case you forgot. They make it a big deal, complicated and difficult to refill medication not the narcotics kind either. The kind that helps people Tourette's symptoms like my sister. They cant just skip and go without . Yes withdrawals make sense if you only prescribed until April ? How do you tell a patient you don't care???? Please quit :)

Accepted Insurance

Bridgewell Counseling Services works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
12-step icon12-Step
Recovery models based on 12 step programs feature extensive peer coaching and emphasize personal growth as a key to sustained sobriety. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and available daily, is expected. The 12 steps of recovery are based on spiritual principles and support participants in addressing the root causes of their disease, accept responsibility for their choices, and accept that which is beyond their control. Self-selected sponsors provide one-one-mentoring.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer customized, wraparound support for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery. Many clients enroll in drug rehab immediately after completing intensive inpatient or residential care. Services encompass outpatient treatment but often extend long beyond the completion of a formal recovery program and typically include a variety of medical, mental health, and social service programs. Peer coaching, relapse prevention, 12 step program induction, and related services are commonly available.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Four principles are key to motivational interviewing in Massachusetts. First, the therapist offers empathy for the client's feelings and experiences. Second, they encourage the client to believe in themselves and their ability to change. Third, the therapist refrains from imposing their own viewpoints. Lastly, the therapist helps the client identify discrepancies in their circumstances and future goals.

It used to be a good place . It has gone downhill for the last few years ..Staff don't stay there long and leave their patients in hiatus. They discharge you for no reason and then make you an appointment. They have no clue what they are doing . Live people don't pick up the phone , you will have to leave a message every time and wait til 2 days later when they might call you back .Very unprofessional.

This place is disgraceful Np take people off life sustaining medications without notifying or informing the patient , plunging you.into devastating withdrawals that threaten your physical and mental health , if you want to lose all stability and become sicker this is the place to be !

My therapist illegally broke his confidentiality agreement and then this place refused to investigate and then dropped me as a customer. This is a CRIMINAL MATTER!

If I could give negative stars, I would. My mom has been going here for over 8 years, she has had over 6 med doctors because they continue to quit/get fired/whatever. This is leading to her not being allowed to get prescriptions filled on time because the new provider (and I quote) "Doesn't feel comfortable refilling a script without meeting with her first." It's a REFILL, as in she is ALREADY ON THE MEDICATION. So after being told "nothing would change" after her most current doctor left, now she has to wait until a new med doctor is available to meet with her??? This is MENTAL HEALTH. People can't just SKIP MEDS! This facility is NEGLIGENT. DO NOT go here.

If you need a med provider for your mental health, I do NOT recommend this practice. Specifically the Amesbury, MA location. My doctor went on vacation for a week and the office refused to have my prescription refilled. I went over a week without my meds so I decided to just go off of them completely. I called multiple times with no call back from any staff. The office staff is extremely unorganized. They have called me for paperwork several times that has been sent to them (even with a confirmation of receipt). Don t waste your time and find a different practice.
