About Bayshore Retreat

Bayshore Retreat was a residential drug and alcohol rehab facility located in Destin, Florida. They’re permanently closed now. The facility was nested in a modern house just off the bay, with each bedroom having a restful waterfront view.

One thing you’d immediately appreciate upon admission into this facility is the level of personalized care they offered. With only six patients at a time, residents received the best possible care tailored to their unique needs. This was unsurprising since this facility’s staff-to-client ratio could be as high as 3 to 1. In addition, they offered a high level of flexibility. Use of mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets and laptops, was permissible. There were no complex rules. You could stay in touch with your business, friends and family while undergoing therapy.

This perfectly aligned with their philosophy that rehab needn’t be a punishment. Their treatment model was based on proven practices and included various activities, from EMDR and art therapy to dry saunas. This whole-person wellness approach aims to heal the mind, body and spirit.

This relapse prevention strategy helped you stay on track by maintaining healthy habits. That way, you avoided falling back into your old pattern. Their core goal was to help you achieve optimum health and recovery without medication, except when necessary for specific reasons. They focused on wellness activities, including weekly deep tissue massage, yoga classes, exercises and dry sauna therapy by licensed therapists.

Plus, you got to enjoy freshly prepared meals by professional chefs regularly. In addition, you’ll participated in 30 hours of group and individual sessions to help you build robust coping mechanisms, learn resiliency and develop even more healthier habits.

The counseling included twice-weekly sessions with a mental health counselor, Life Skills training, and daily group sessions (except Saturdays) with addiction experts. Past clients overwhelmingly commend the facility for their quality recovery program, with some referring to them as the best place for alcohol and drug rehabilitation.

Accepted Insurance

Bayshore Retreat works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

monthly iconMonthly

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Hypnotherapy (aka guided hypnosis) can be used as a therapeutic modality to treat substance use, especially in terms of quitting smoking cigarettes (nicotine). Clinical hypnotherapists help clients turn their attention inward, accessing unconscious or subconscious material, and then make suggestions that are healthier for the individual. The process can help clients make deep, positive, and lasting changes, including ceasing addictive habits.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This was quite possibly the best decision I ever made to go to Bayshore. It changed my life! Where do I start, oh yes the food. Chef Mark is extremely talented. I ate better there for 30 days than I have my 30+ years of existence. It was like eating at a 5 star restaurant 3 times a day. The entire staff was absolutely incredible as well, from the co-owner Judy for making my initial call warm and inviting, to other co-owner Megan for working so hard with my insurance company to get it covered, for providing us with a safe and peaceful retreat, and for going above and beyond to accommodate our needs during our stay. All of the employees were kind, accommodating and were very knowledgeable about the process and how to teach the things I needed to be successful. Kevin and Reina were especially awesome. You could tell they cared about their jobs and cared about us clients. Reina is naturally a caring and compassionate person. She went above and beyond to ensure our stay was productive and a learning experience. Kevin was Mr. Fun, he showed us some incredible experiences and activities. He also went above and beyond to ensure I got what I needed from the stay. The counselor Stephanie was amazing as well. She really took time to dive deep in to the issues and gave amazing solutions and a set of goals to follow for success. She wasn t judgmental at all, was very encouraging, is extremely knowledgeable about her profession and could also tell that she cared about my success in the program. The facility is unbelievable as well. It s waterfront in beautiful Destin. The beds were comfortable, kitchen was a chef s dream, the pool was extremely refreshing and their gym is what really motivated me to stay on course and get my life together as well. They have a dock that you can go down and fish from, I caught several fish while there. The other clients and employees became almost like a second family to me and it was truly a one-of-a-kind experience to show me how to thrive in sobriety. It doesn t stop when you leave either. They call and check on you often and the co-owner Megan continued to fight with my insurance until the very end, well after my stay, to ensure they covered what they needed to cover for my stay. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get their lives back!

Every addict has their own path to and through recovery. Treatment doesn t always provide a fix-all for every person. My personal journey led me to Bayshore three times (and it wasn t my first trip to treatment). This is hands-down the most comprehensive, immersive and compassionate program for those who struggle with drugs and alcohol. The house is beautifully appointed, the chef is absolutely amazing, and the peace and motivation I felt while in attendance is the most gracious I ve experienced. I still communicate regularly with fellow clients and staff. I am now 19 months sober (after several near-death hospitalizations) and have the tools I learned at Bayshore to thank for my sobriety! Love love love these people and what they do!!

Bayshore Retreat is an exceptional facility! The owner and staff go above and beyond for everyone that walks through the front door. This facility sets itself apart on almost every level. The maximum number of patients is 6, allowing for more one on one time and an experience tailored specifically to each individual.Alcoholism and addiction are cunning, baffling, and powerful diseases. The staff members here know that and have years of experience helping people deal with their afflictions.Whether you are deep in your addiction, still allowing drugs and alcohol to dictate your life (1 Girl), or if you have finally had enough and are ready for a better way to live - Megan and her team are here to help no matter what stage you are at! The Food:Chef Mark and Chef KevinI can t say enough about the chefs here!!5 stars would be an understatement!Accommodating:Just because we are seeking sobriety does not mean that the world stops turning. I was able to use my phone and my laptop to continue working while at this facility.Spoiled Rotten:The body is just as important as the mind and the spirit. Weekly sauna, weekly massage, weekly yoga, and daily gym. Where else do you get treatment like that!!??
