About Banner Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinic

Banner Behavioral Health is an outpatient program for adults in Chandler, Arizona. They offer services to adolescents and adults dealing with mental health issues and substance use concerns. They take a comprehensive approach to ensure all areas of needs are being met.

When you enter their program, you’ll be treated as an individual and will have your own treatment plan. Throughout your care, you’ll have access to mental health education and support groups. There’s also different behavioral health programs such as 12 Step programming, dialectical behavioral therapy, electroconvulsive therapy, medical detox, and more.

They work with various local inpatient programs to ensure you’re connected with a case management team to guide you towards your best outcome. They’ll connect both youths and adults to the appropriate inpatient facility. Each program has its own focus but for the most part, you’ll engage in individual, group, and family therapy.

The program also offers telehealth services. These visits can include short and long term therapy, assessments, follow ups, and prescription refills. This allows you to access care online at any location that’s convenient for you.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs support clients' successful reintegration into their home, workplace, and community. Drug rehab aftercare presumes that recovery requires life-long support. These programs typically offer a wide variety of services customized for the clients' unique and evolving needs. Clients may receive vocational training and career counseling, housing assistance, legal aid, peer coaching, and 12 step program induction, among other services. Clients' case managers often play a lead role in rehab aftercare planning.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy focuses on helping you understand and manage emotional and physical responses to past trauma. Using therapeutic interventions, you learn to reframe the experience. This helps reduce your anxiety and gives you greater control over your life.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Developing life skills is an important piece of addiction recovery treatment. These skills help you succeed in day to day tasks and live a healthy, independent life. They include communication, critical thinking, problem solving, self control, and resilience.

Such an awesome place, they helped my daughter get off her depression and get her back on track, now she looks more happier than she was before the treatment.

Nice staff but worthless program. Download a bunch of online handouts, watch some Ted talks and save yourself $4 grand.

AJ (Anthony) was by far the best person to ever help me in the mental health scene. I ve gone to therapy and outpatient services in general since i was 7. I m now 18 and a year back I was hopeless. Then after an in-patient visit they wanted me to try out this place. I was unsure at first as every other therapy or group i ve EVER been to has never worked. But then i met AJ. He lit up the room with his personality and his ability to talk to people my age and truly understand their feelings is mind boggling. He still gave us a packet everyday but the amount of help i was receiving made me WANT to do the work. And this is coming from a kid who failed school his entire life barely scrapping by. If you ever have the chance to come here do it! But make sure you get Anthony he s the best!! :) I can without a doubt say he had a major part in keeping me alive to this day. Thankyou, AJ and the Banner Health team!

I was an inpy at the Banner. University location. While I was there, I was advised of an intensive Outpt program that I could continue to receive intensive counseling 3 days a week. When I called them back to let them know that I was very interested in enrolling... only to he told that because I will be having neck surgery in 2 weeks that I am not eligible to enroll. She asked if I could call back after my surgery!! If I could wait that long I would not driven myself to an inpt facility in the first place. Another disappointment from our mental health system. If you don't fit into their ideas of a program then there is very limited help to any of us that are in need of help. Good luck getting the help you need here!!

Took my suicidal daughter in to receive intensive outpatient services through Banner. Joanna Shapiro the Clinical Director asked us to leave after telling me that my daughters neck and back brace from her injuries was a "liability!" What kind of counselor turns away a child asking for help?
