My experience at BBHH was disappointing. During the admission process, a therapist, I think her name was Maria, who had red hair and noticeable eyelashes, was extremely rude and condescending while conducting my assessment. She approached me in an aggressive manner, and when I requested to speak with her supervisor, she replied, I am the supervisor. She was disrespectful to the staff members taking my vitals, even raising her voice at them. When I went to my room I did not have a good experience with my primary nurses either they were uncaring and unprofessional. The staff needs to be trained on how to treat patients and other humans. I would not recommend this place

I'd give this place 0 stars if I could. All the low rated reviews aren't lying. Should have went with my gut and found a different place to take my girlfriend to. When I dropped her off here for help I put so much trust into this facility and was let down. I expected them to take full good care of her but the things she's told me left me disgusted. The staff upfront seem nice that's the best I can say about this place but dealing with the staff on the phone when I tried to get updates about my girlfriend release was disgusting. The lady I was transferred to after the initial call was really rude off the bat. I was treating the lady on the line with respect and a calm voice just trying to ask questions and I was met with her verbally yelling at me with a nasty tone as if I had insulted her mother or something. The things my girlfriend told me was the staff ignoring her for simple requests like needing water , asking for a form , updates on her release etc. She told me the housing was also not comfortable with the bed she was given leaving her sore. From the sounds of other reviews the staff here definitely need to take classes on how you treat other human beings especially those suffering from mental illness instead of looking down on those type of people. I just gotta say that if you have someone you love suffering from mental illness and you're looking for somewhere to take them to go get help look for other options because this place is gonna leave them feeling worse than when they first came here. DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR LOVED ONES.

Warning: Do not choose this facility. If possible, seek care elsewhere. My experience here was deeply disappointing. The staff, including nurses, mental health workers, and therapists, displayed unprofessional behavior. During my intake, one mental health worker casually mentioned that there are no qualifications for her position, which is alarming considering they handle tasks like taking blood pressure and drawing blood. This facility lacks compassion, which is especially concerning for individuals in crisis. The staff often seemed condescending, and when I requested to speak with a case manager as their day room sign suggests I waited for hours without any communication.Despite my psychiatrist indicating I could be discharged by 8:30 AM, I didn t leave until 4 PM due to their delays in completing paperwork. I felt worse after my stay: I was dehydrated because I wasn t offered water, and my hygiene products, which had been dropped off for me were never offered to me as well not given back to me at discharge. The environment felt uncomfortable and unsafe throughout my visit. I even had an RN approach me to deliver unsolicited life advice, which was inappropriate and unprofessional. RN s are not trained properly in general to assist with mental health. Why are you giving advice to a patient? You aren t a psychiatrist or therapist. There is more than I can type that bothered me. The way some staff spoke to me while here was degrading.I regret having to pay for such inadequate care. The facility was also unclean, which added to my distress. Based on other reviews, I m not alone in feeling this way. It s crucial that this facility listens to patients (read the other reviews here for example or when a patient makes a complaint under your care) and makes significant improvements. Mental health matters, but it seems to be overlooked here. Please consider other options before choosing this place.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients receiving treatment at an outpatient rehab typically do not require hospitalization or intensive supervision and support. Outpatient addiction counseling and recovery education are often offered during the morning, evening, night, and weekend, allowing clients to tailor treatment to their own schedule. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs are the most time-intensive and are designed for clients who are at an increased relapse risk and/or who need more robust therapeutic support.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer clients in addiction recovery a robust continuum of care after clients have completed active treatment. These services address recovery as a life-long process and are designed to evolve with clients' changing needs. Clients may partner with their case managers and/or addiction recovery team to identify the rehab aftercare services that are right for them. They may receive career counseling, housing assistance, peer coaching, 12 step program induction, among many other services.
12-step icon12-Step
Participants engaged in 12 step programs receive intensive peer coaching (sponsorship) and community support. Spiritual development as a means of achieving psychological and emotional healing and growth is the cornerstone of 12 step recovery, but religious affiliations are not required. Meetings are free, anonymous, and open to the public, though specialized formats are available, including groups for seniors, teens, and family members. Evening, night, and day meetings are conducted year-round in most communities.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
When an individual is in denial about their substance use disorder, their loved ones may organize a drug intervention in California. This effort involves gently but assertively confronting the individual about their substance use and sharing how it has affected those who care about them. A professional interventionist may also attend this gathering. Their expertise with intervention services can prove helpful in guiding the conversation to a positive result.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
During the first phase of recovery – detox – it is crucial to have 24-hour clinical care in California. This care provides constant monitoring in order to ensure your safely and comfort as you progress through the withdrawal process for drug or alcohol addiction. Licensed professionals prescribe medications to treat withdrawal symptoms and provide frequent monitoring to ensure your safely as addictive toxins leave your system.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in California is a method that therapists often use for the effective treatment of substance use disorders. It is based on the principle that substance abuse stems from unhelpful ways of thinking and patterns of behavior, which can be changed by helping the individual learn better ways of coping.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

If I could give this facility negative stars, I would. My daughter was transported there last Thursday from Fresno. She was able to make calls on days 1 and 2, I called and spoke with Nurses, obtained proper consent, and requested a callback from Dr. Maa and the social worker Manual. She didn't call day 3, I called spoke with the Nurse, and was transferred to Manual, he said he would call me back. Day 4 was a visiting day (Sunday 6-7). They called two hours before visiting time, to say my daughter was on "unit restriction", and wouldn't be allowed a visit. We pushed back and proceeded to drive to the facility. When they brought my daughter in the room, she had deteriorated drastically, mentally. She could barely talk, she was scared of us, traumatized. Day 5 Monday, I called several times, was given the run around spoke with the Floor nurse who said she would tell Dr. Maa and Manual to return my call. No return call from Maa or Manual. Day 6, Tuesday visiting 6-7 after a couple of calls Manual calls me back to tell me there are no labs, and there was a hearing that extended her 5250. What hearing?? I arrive at the facility and I'm told again that my child is on "unit restriction", and wouldn't be allowed a visit, per Dr. Maa. I protest, I'm granted a visit separate from the regular visiting room. My daughter was scared, almost non-verbal, walking extremely slow, and just a shell of who she is. Day 7, not a visiting day, I arrived at the facility at 7am to greet Dr. Maa at the door. I needed answers and I wanted to know why my kid was deteriorating, why is she on unit restriction, why. How do you expect my kid to get better when you are trying to keep her family away from her? I spoke with the nursing manager and another lady named Samantha to express my concerns. They told me that the facility has zoom visiting that I should have been made aware, and someone should have returned my call. I requested to be apart of the hearing scheduled for that afternoon, that I had just found out about. They arranged a visit for us, and said they would make sure Dr. Maa comes in to speak with me. My kid was broken. She said, this place is doing more harm than good. A new guy came in, and says my daughter is better than when she arrived, and was not a threat to herself or anyone else, so she can actually go home. I agreed. Dr. Maa never presented himself. We did receive medication, but we didn't receive any follow up services. Manual reached out to 1 place and that was it. The discharge paperwork is inaccurate. My kid is not violent, she is gentle. She might destroy a tree but she hasn't attacked anyone. She wasn't herself, i was worried, didn't want to pit her in the car so I called for help hoping for CIT to take her to Exodus for an evaluation. She ended up on an involuntary hold with the Fresno Community hospital choosing not to communicate with me about my, very dependant, mentally wounded, 19 year old child, who's medical insurance I provide.I took my kid home, she was frightened, confused, anxious, paranoid, her body was sore, her leg hurting, and a tooth chipped. I quickly discovered that she has not been eating or drinking. I couldn't get her to eat, she was scared someone would poison her.Her body was famished while being pumped with drugs, how would a sane person react? I slowly got her to eat and she started to feel better physically. She is no longer confused, or scared, but now the medication side effects are causing a series of other concerns. We are trying to wait it out but the lines are unclear. The discharge paperwork says she started taking the medication on 8/26, but I spoke with the nurses daily and my notes say she started the medication on or before 8/22.My daughter has daymares about this place.I feel sorry for any family experiencing a mental health crisis, but especially if they are being treated by Dr. Maa.

Everyone gets shipped here. Staff is constantly inconsistent with info or uncaring, other than a few and I mean a few like on one hand. Even when you call 2 times within 15 minutes to speak to the patient, they'll end the call for no reason. I can also arrive at the facility faster than they can end the second call. Don't send anyone here, and if you're from Ridgecrest, don't 5150 or the like, they auto come here from RC. As you can see in reviews, this facility should have been closed down a long time ago. Especially seeing the state of the facility and how it's run, its clear money is more important. Care and well-being comes last.

Staff is rude and unprofessional. Trying to speak with a case manager is next to impossible when their voicemail is constantly full and they don't return messages. I was lied to by a nurse who told me my son was admitted for 14 days and would not be released today. I was lied to by another nurse who told me that my son's phone was busy today and that's why I could not speak with him. Only to find out that my son was released this morning and I was not informed. Now, I do not even know where my son is and nobody is returning my call.

Unsafe ratios and they have inmates waiting to stand trial in the same building as adolescents.

Response from the owner4 months ago
Thank you for raising this concern and allowing us the opportunity to provide more factual information. Patient and staff safety is the top priority of BBHH. We staff based on the acuity of the patients. We serve many patients on a 1 staff to 1 patient level of observation to ensure the safety of everyone. BBHH also treats individuals based on their psychiatric illness and not their legal status. Individuals living with a mental illness, with pending non-violent charges, are treated on a separate floor at BBHH and never on the same floor and vicinity of our adolescents
