About Arnot Ogden Medical Center

Arnot Ogden Medical Center offers various healthcare services, including addiction treatment, to adults in Elmira, New York. This center specializes in inpatient treatment and follows 12-step programming. This means you will receive the same programming offered to those who attend Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous.

What’s interesting about this center’s inpatient program is that it strongly encourages family involvement. If you enroll, you are encouraged to attend weekly family education sessions to help you and your family repair relationships while you focus on recovery.

You’ll also have your psychological needs met as the inpatient program strives to help individuals work toward having high self esteem and confidence, which in turn will help with personal growth and drug and alcohol abstinence. You can also expect a personalized plan to help with continued care to ensure you always have assistance even after recovery.

I also loved that the inpatient program included medical monitoring and individual and group counseling among peers fighting the same fight as myself. So if you’re looking for a friendly supportive environment the inpatient program at this facility is worth considering.

Had colonostomy done around March/April. Found and removed some polyps but apparently the Arnot gastrointestinal department nor Dr. Azizi are competent enough to do a complete job because one remains that has to be removed at a later date. Still charged, between my insurance and myself roughly $2,500 for a job that wasn't completed and will now cost considerably more down the road. Same old underperforming, overcharging 21st century American healthcare. We spend more per person on average than any other country on healthcare but rank poorly on quality of care and positive outcomes. What a rip-off

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Provider referred me to a Cayuga med orthopedic surgeon. Referral said foot pain. I questioned why not a podiatrist they said he specializes in foot pain. I went to the appointment. The extent of the exam was x-rays and telling me to stand. He said I needed surgery so thinking he saw something on the X-rays I agreed. 6 weeks non weight bearing and another 3 weeks in a walking boot. Pain all returned. Followed my instincts and went to a podiatrist. He ordered a mti of the foot and said he did he procedures at Arnot & Guthrie and did I have a preference. I immediately questioned why Arnot didn t refer me to him since he s affiliated with them. He responded, it s political . At that point I chose Guthrie. Arnot used me as a political pawn. They lost the mri, surgery and another surgery for a bunion on the other foot. And needless to say they lost my trust . Thank goodness Guthrie is close by. I ll never go to an Arnot provider again. They won t last another 5 years.

My wife has been in hospital for 2 weeks and is being discharged today with the same pain she came in with. The floor staff have been great. But, the hospital modle of care has been the worst. Doctors don't talked to each other, one tells you one thing the next something else. You see so many people it is confusing. Three time she was scheduled for test and then canceled and no one knows who canceled. She was sent down one time for a test and came back having had another. My suggestion don't go to this hospital.

Admitted thursday in ER FOR CHEST PAIN. Sat in ER for six hours. Left because they won't have a doctor until Monday. Ekg and ecg read normal. Defibrillator recorded problems with AFIB. Had to return by ambulance the next day. Again, put in a room on 5th floor. Doctor won't be there until Monday. No tests they did showed anything. I had to have a health care advocate. Shut them up. They discharged me. Going to rochester. Much better. People come to arnot to die, not get quality care.

Their patient portal is the worst. I can never leave my doctor a message. When I go on there it never let's me do anything but make payments. Funny how that tab works with no problem. Nice how they changed their billing system, I get 2 bills for every appointment. This is exactly what i was told when i called about the 2 bills, 1 is for the doctor and now 1 is just for walking in the door. All my doctors were from Arnot, but now I'm down to only 1 doctor which i will be switching. Arnot you are not worth the prices you make us pay.

I ent to the ER because my throat was swelling shut, my epiglottis specifically. After the student Dr in the ER looked down my throat and saw nothing (you can not see the epiglottis from looking in the mouth) he cleared it with his senior Dr and discharged me saying I had food stuck in my throat. Swelling of the epiglottis is a major medical emergency and they just sent me on my way. I will never EVER rely on that facility or their Doctors for any of my own or my families medical issues. Thank goodness for Guthrie because otherwise I'd be dead. Worthless, that Dr should have his liscense taken from him and so should his overseeing Dr.

Terrible facilitation. My grandpa got horrid care. He got an echocardiogram. It was very inefficient and provided not thorough and fast. Terrible care didint answer questions and were very blunt when they did answer. He did not get much service and the doctors could not figure out the diagnosis. When taken to a new hospital the results were much better. This a is dying hospital.

Do not go there. They are a dying organization that is too scared to treat in fear of screwing up your Care. My Dr of 30 plus years turned me away when I needed help the most. Thankfully for the readers, he is retiring. Probably why he abandoned me. I will never use there service again. rather die
